I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Santa Barbara. The reason there are no high rises are because the government requires all buildings be kept low, to keep the architectural feel consistent. It really does have wonderful architecture. Next time you come to Santa Barbara you should try La Super Rica Taqueria, it's Oprah's favorite restaurant and celebrities can often be spotted there, but it is pretty cheap, most plates are under five dollars (they are small portions). Also, check out The Sandman Inn. It's a hidden gem in a city with many expensive hotels, great for the traveler on a budget!
Cops might not be so friendly next time! Deputy minister of safety and security Susan Shabangu said "The police cannot calmly talk to criminals who shoot at them or wait until a police officer dies before reacting," she said. "I want to assure the police station commissioners and policemen and women from these areas that they have permission to kill these criminals. I won't tolerate any pathetic excuses for you not being able to deal with crime. You have been given guns, now use them.
I want no warning shots. You have one shot and it must be a kill shot. If you miss, the criminals will go for the kill. They don't miss. We can't take this chance.
"Criminals are hell-bent on undermining the law and they must now be dealt with. If criminals dare to threaten the police or the livelihood or lives of innocent men, women and children, they must be killed. End of story. There are to be no negotiations with criminals.
Not that you're criminals of course but it is unwise to push their goodwill too far!
Ciao
Jet-lag advantage It sounds like a good thing you're holding onto the jetlag for all these late night/early morning adventures! WOW! It all sounds like quite an epic animal fest. We've been seeing weird Australian animals but no late night romps.
:-)
Hope everyone is getting healthy.
Interesting experience Hi, satellite dish in a trekked village is interesting. Have you experienced any good Fiji tour guides that you would like to recommend? We have a new site OurExplorer.com with tour guides online. Many travelers have inquired about Fiji guides, but we've not yet got any good ones. Thanks. : )
Glad you made it! When we saw you off toward customs we weren't sure you'd ever make off of Fiji time. :)
Guessing you're now in S Africa, what a journey! We've been having Brisbane adventures mostly involving strange animals (no, not just our own children). Emma just posted some pix on our blog.
Miss you!
I Miss you Ellie Hi Ellie, (oh and Jack and your mum and dad) Sounds like you are having a wicked time, I've just got back from Lanzarote with my dad. we had a great time, loads of swimming but I got an ear infection just like Jack! Too much swimming I think. I love all your photos, it looks like you've been to some great places, can't wait to hear all about it when you come back in year 6, Aghhhhhh. love from Beth xxx
jealous :) well it all sounds just wonderful, lazying on a gorgeous beach, reading and watching the kids have fun swimming. Helen and I are certainly jealous, still sunny here during the days...but the frosts are starting so only a few weeks before we see the first snows on the peaks....summer goes too fast here!!! Looking forward to reading more about your adventures soon.
HI ELLIE AND ALL!!! YOU ARE SOOOO LUCKY I'm so jealous, I loved the panda. Fiji looks amazing, your whole holiday looks fab. Mum and Dad say hi - can't wait to see you - we are year 6's (yipee), we get little friends. See you soon Georgia x
Dog Food Smell I've been reading your blog and was amused by your story of the dog food smell on I-70. I've lived in Denver for 16 years and I've never gotten used to the smell either! The dog food factory was built there way back when there was no I-70 and very little else in that spot. The city grew around it. I personally wish they would move it to a land far, far away. The good news is, the smell doesn't travel that far. Thanks for stopping by our wonderful state!
Jealousy is such a terrible thing! Wow this looks fab. I am afraid it is only me keeping up to date with your trip as our home dial up is too slow for boys to be bothered and actually Steven is away in Minehead on Scout Camp this week.
At time of typing this 2.15pm Weds 6th the sun is almost shining but most of week has been grim and wet!
Looking at your fab beach photos makes me very envious wish I was there. Ta for post card arrived yesterday and been added to collection I don't think I have any from Fiji!
I am managing (just about) to keep track of you but had to do a fews days catch up all in one go today which left me feeling quite exhausted and now quite depressed. Think of us doomed to just a couple of nights in Roche for our Summer Holiday this year (still at least we will get home cookin!!!!!!! ha ha!!!!!!)
Next week we do also have a trip to London planned - one for the boys really as it involves a visit to chelsea fc's "free" open day!
Great Blogs keep em coming and love to you all xxx
looks fantastic Hi Guys, really enjoying reading your blog. It's 5:30am here just having coffee before heading to the golf course. Fiji looks truly fantastic, the ocean looks so tempting even I fancy a swim looking at it! Keep up the good blogging.
You are nuts It's not our Anniversary tomorrow it's on August 11th.... but thanks anyway... Jack had a great birthday ta. We'll be in Fiji for our Anniversary.
A town car!!!! You know why it's called a Town Car.....yep as you now know It's the size of a small town in England.......I'm sure it's a very comfortable ride, but you really should be about 20 years older before you drive one!!!! Should be fun cruising down highway 1.
Belated Happy Birthday Jack Oppps Helen and I seem to have missed Jacks birthday.....so a very big belated happy birthday from us both....sounds like you had a fantastic time
A message from Jessie Hello everybody, you seem to be having a wonderful holiday in USA.
I am enjoying myself too. I spend most of my days asleep on the settee or watching the world through the window from the back of the armchair. There is an interesting garden to explore but I have to be careful of large wheelbarrows suddenly coming round corners, they startle me and I run away. Go on enjoying your holiday. Happy Birthday to young Master Jack. Love Jessie
