23/10/08 Thursday Day 70 Got to Bunbury around half 2. Our caravan park is again a few kilometres outside the city. This is another smallish city. Doesn’t take long to get around. There’s a couple of sights around the town to see. Again everything closes around half 4 which isn’t helpful at all. There’s 2 lookout places where you can climb a few steps up to to see a better look of the city. Didn’t bother cooking in the van tonight. Instead we went out to the town to see what was on offer there. Being a Thursday night it’s quiet [View Full Entry]

Dwellingup Oceania » Australia » Western Australia
23/10/08 Thursday Day 70 Today we’re heading to a place called Dwellingup. There’s a forest heritage centre there with a few trails to walk. This place has a population of about 600. Tiny little place but it’s a place where people go to do adventure activities like trekking or kayaking and stuff like that. There’s basically one main street about half kilometre long and another street off this and that’s it! The heritage centre is built in the shape of 3 leaves. It also has a tree top walk which is basically walking across a raise platform between the trees. It&rs [View Full Entry]

22/10/08 Wednesday Day 69 Today we’re in another new place, Mandurah, another 30 kilometres south of Rockingham. Found our caravan site pretty easy with the help of my sat nav on my phone. Thank god for that. Otherwise I’d be driving around for ages trying to find places. First place to visit was the Abingdon Miniature Village which is basically a biggish enough pretty garden with miniature English style house models placed around it and it’s only up the road from the caravan park which itself is a few miles outside the city. It also has a maze in it. We [View Full Entry]

20/10/08 Monday Day 67 Arrive into Rockingham around 4pm after coming from Fremantle and Rottness Island, without booking a site for a night in one of their parks. We found out that 2 were full and finally we found one that was free but it was a bit out of town. The owner man was a bit weird though. He was like a really gay aussie del boy. Quiet funny! We didn’t have any supplies either so we decided to get a bus into town and eat there instead. The bus stop was right outside the entrance so handy enough you’d [View Full Entry]

20/10/08 Monday Day 67 A day on the bike Today we went to Rottnest Island which is 30 minutes off the coast of Fremantle. It’s a really nice place because there’s no cars except the 1 bus service that runs around it and everyone gets around on bicycles. We got our bikes when we landed off the boat and were looking forward to the day except for the 1 thing that was really annoying……the flies. My god were they annoying. Because of the heat, all the flies come around. The only way to get rid of them was when you were [View Full Entry]

18/10/08 Saturday Day 65 About half way down we stopped in a place called Gingin. This is another tiny place. We stopped at a filling station to have a home made sandwich curiosity of our campervan worktop! This bit is funny cause it only happens in the movies. You need to get a key attached to a block of timber to get access to the toilets. Gas! We then headed to Coogee Beach caravan park which is 6 kilometres south of Fremantle which is south of Perth. After a spot of dinner we decided to head to the town for the [View Full Entry]

17/10/08 Friday Day 64 Today we got our campervan which will be our home for the next 17 days. It’s a class machine and has a 2 hob cooker and a fridge and microwave. It’s also got all the cooking utensils. After collecting the van from Apollo Campervans, we headed back to the hostel to collect our bags. First destination was to Cervantes which is about 250 kilometres north of Perth. This is the nearest town to the Pinnacles. The Pinnacles consist of hundreds of limestone pillars scattered around a desert. We’ll see these tomorrow. I also have a sat nav [View Full Entry]

13/10/08 Monday Day 60 Checking in at Singapore airport was awful slow. Some tool in front of us took ages. There were loads of small children on our flight too. Slightly annoying but not too much. The in-flight entertainment was very good. Watched all the Extras xmas special this time (I only saw half of it on the flight to Bangkok), watched Get Smart film which was awful. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone! Got to our hostel, Governor Robinsons, around 4pm and headed for a bit to eat in The Brass Monkey. The lady behind the bar had a northern irish [View Full Entry]

09/10/08 Thursday Day 56 Another early morning. We finished off our breakfast supplies that we bought before heading for the train station. Nothing seems to run on time in Malaysia, even the main intercity trains. Our 8.15am train left the station at 8.30pm. It didn’t look good when at 8.15am we were still sitting in the waiting area. The train was freezing. The air conditioning was on full blast again. The restaurant/counter service in the restaurant carriage was worse than at home. The only sandwiches were tuna and cheese, i.e. tuna or cheese. This bit was funny though. Not long after [View Full Entry]

06/10/08 Monday Day 53 We arrived into Kuala Lumpur around 6am. I used the word “into” very loosely. We were actually dropped miles outside the city. I knew it was bad when we were getting a taxi back towards our hotel that there were signs for Kuala Lumpur. This city is very cool though. There’s absolutely loads of high rise buildings and shops and office blocks. We can see the Petronas towers from our hotel window too which is great. We didn’t go the them today because they are closed to the public so we’ll go tomorrow morning. Instead we went [View Full Entry]
