Chuc mung nam moi!!!!!!! Happy new year from Vietnam! Wasn't planning on writing a blog today but its been fairly intersesting. A wee disclaimer before I continue, I'm exeptionally drunk right now and anything I may say could be used as so much trash for a very bright fire. Only posted a blog a few days ago but wanted those of you who care to know about our last few days. We are in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and it is nuts! Did some tourist s@*t the first day and found it to be be, well, huge and very western. Went to the war museum, forget what it's called now but, before, it was called something like "the museum of war crimes commited against vietnam by the imperialistic aggressors of America!!" Gottta love it. It ... read more

Only one full day left in enigmatic Cambodia. It's going to be such a shame to leave this incredible country as there's so much, all in the details, that we're going to miss. Here are some of the minutiae that make up the crazy whole that we love so much:- Khmer food (especially Lok Lak and the supremely delicious Amok), local markets selling the living, barely living and very much dead creatures of this country (you can ascertain the level of life by the number of flies - the more flies, the deader it is), the gorgeous red dust tan, counting the number of hello's received as we walk through a new village and the most beautiful smiles as we return the greeting, the happy serendipity of arriving, randomly, at the perfect guest house after a ... read more

Sua s'dei from Cambodia, the land of bruised bottom's, amazing temples and friendly joyous people. Before we get on to that though I'll fill you in on our last days (for the minute) in Thailand. We left the Khao Yai National park and made our way to Nang Rong, via Nakhon Ratchasima, to use it as our base for exploring the temples of Prasat Phanom Rung. We stayed in a lovely homestay (basically a locals house that opens a couple of rooms up to paying guests) where we met a really nice Italian couple (who we were to randomly meet twice later) and again indulged our stomachs at the local night market. This time Anny and I both tried fried cockroach! They have a distinct nutty flavour and a real crunch as you bite through the ... read more

We've been on the move. Had to force ourselves off the beach and brave the journey back to Bangkok, it only took us 20 hours this time and cost 200 Baht less, so that was nice! Decided, due to a change of plan, not to stay in Bangkok so we booked a train to Lopburi, waited the three hours for it to leave then enjoyed the relative comfort of a third class journey a little way North. Lopbori is a fairly small town that has some really interesting ruins from the 6th to 10th centuries AD, but the real reason we came was to give Anny her first sighting of some monkeys. This town has a troup of mischievous monkeys running amok, and after a little hunting we found the pesky buggers! They seemed to have ... read more

Sawat dii khrap! I'm going to start with a massive cliche and what some of you may think is a huge piece of hyperbole but there is no better way to sum this place up; we have found paradise! But first, a little on how we got here. We were supposed to meet our coach at 6.30pm the day we left Bangkok but true to form we didn't leave untill 7.30pm, after having to walk a good three miles accross the city with our full packs. The coach, to be fair, was pretty decent, if you could ignore the endless movies being played full blast for the entire journey and the stench coming from the bog! The coach arrived at its destination at about 6.30am so we climbed out only to be told we had to ... read more

Hello from Bangkok! We all arrived safe and sound, if a little bleary eyed, after our 22hr journey, stepping onto Thai soil for the first time at 7am Sat morning. It was already very hot and muggy but it was lovely to be able to smell that sweet, earthy smell of the tropics again; not so nice to be reaquainted with the smell smell of human effluent! Still, not nearly as bad as India. Infact after almost three days in Bangkok I have to admit to being impressed by the cleanliness and tidyness of the city. There is comparitively little litter and all the parks, monuments and especially the Temples and Palaces are kept in remarkably good order. We are staying on the Koh Sahn road, a predominantly traveler orientated part of Bangkok. It has little ... read more
