My own spotlight So Jeremy, on this very same Thursday there was a nasty accident on I-70 that kept me from getting the kids and getting to frisbee until 5:45. They were just starting a 7 on 7 game, so I went home and ran another 4 miles (to go with the 4 I ran at practice). Then I had a friend call up and ask if I could fill in for him in his rec basketball league. So I grabbed some shoes and went over to the rec center. Got there just before the game started and found out we had only five players. In the first three minutes I drilled a pair of threes and a layup off a steal. For the rest of the game I had a 6'1" 23 year old guarding me, did not get any more shots. (I did get a couple free throws.) But the other team seemed to think I was good, because every time I broke free they were yelling "Get 10! Get 10!"
Sign Me Up I'm coming down. The two of us could start our own franchise. I'll be the point guard, you be the lefty layup master.
Are you really a lefty? You'd think I'd know that after guarding you for all those years. Maybe if you shot more...
Go Tribe! We'll root the Indians on for you! Neal just told me his brother's going to the game -so cool!
Sorry I missed your jaunt home. Mrs. B let me know you were in town and I meant to ask her when you would be swinging by the school, but I got a little tied up. The wedding's this weekend, so we've been keeping busy!
Best of luck to you and the Tribe!
-Bridget
Mule backup is the way to go I am telling you Jeremy - stay with Travelblog but use the Mule backup system to keep a copy of your posts moving around the Ecuadorean countryside - safe from any devastating fires that might destroy local copies. I assume there are a few donkeys running around Puyo looking for work.
cost to run your bulb Jer, the cost to run your fluorescent bulb 24/7 is somewhere between $16 and $37 for the year depending on your electricity rate. For example at the average US rate of 9.86 cents per Kw hour it would run just over $16 for the year. If you had really expensive power cost like in say Hawaii (23 cents per Kw hour) it would cost $37. Your bulb uses 13.4 kw hours per month. Somehow I doubt that these scientific facts will sway your landlord but now you're armed.
Hey Hey Jer, sounds like you really rocked with he magic show! This light bulb problem seems a bit odd--can't you rig something with solar panels and help the landlord save money and the environment??? Hahaha.
Wedding entertainment Jer,
Maybe you should bring your cool science demo to the wedding for halftime entertainment. It would be awesome for something to explode just as the first dance is commencing. Hmm something tells me removing lights from the exterior of a building is not the way to get rid of burglers.
Hey Jer Jer,
I got to speak to Sus over the phone which was very nice, but I thought I would drop you a line over blog comment as well. I heard a lot about how everything was going and it sounds like you guys are doing well and really getting the experience of a lifetime. I too feel a great sadness over Auntie's passing even though I haven't been part of the family for very long. She was an awesome women and I hope we all age as gracefully. Anyway, hang in down there and we will see you in September!
Safe and sound Jeremy, you probably have already heard, but Sue made it safe and sound to Columbus. She came over for some talk and pizza, and I drove her to Chris and Sarah's. They are going to take her to Lima. She left the iPod and cards here, any movies in particular that you want?
Sincere Sympathy Hey Jeremy! My deepest condolences. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry for your/her loss! We all know she's now in a better place. I hope Sue has a safe trip home and though the reason for her trip is a sad one, I hope that she gets to enjoy some of her time home too! Take care of yourself down there... God Bless you both. Con Amor, Allison

Ockham's Razor The scientist who explained why four guys would be drinking beer at 9:30 in the morning was William of Ockham. Depeding on who you read, he said "Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate" or "entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem." Literally it means entities should not be unecessarily multiplied. In common use, it argues that all things being equal, the simplest solution that explains all the evidence tends to be the best one.
Glad to hear things are working a little better for you. Sounds like school kids are school kids wherever you go.
Great stuff! Hey Jeremy,
Today I’ve caught up on a ton of your blogs. You’re a natural at telling your experiences, man! I’ve been retelling them to Elena all day. After a few of them she told me about similar experiences she had in her first year or so in the states.
I’m really happy to hear how well you guys are adjusting to everything. Give Susan our best, and keep it up!!
Peace,
Paul G.
You know who Jer, I can make this cat disappear. For 12 meters of clothesline, I'll make it look like a suicide. Thomas Edison didn't bust his ass making lightbulbs, just to have some dude steal yours.
Politician Jeremy, I signed you up to run for mayor of Columus. While you are gone I can handle your campaign, and you should have no problem running the city from Puyo, there really is very little effort involved. All you have to do is show up for Comfest, the NHL draft and whenever hillary stops by, and you're golden. I just ask that I can get a mid level cabinet position, perhaps City boob, or Bikini inspector.
golf balls You always was a little off balance. Should we send you one golf a month? Try planting them so people really will think you have gone off the deep in.
frates I suppose you already know that you'll have the makings of a good book by the time you're through. I am enjoying your entries.
Your "Thoughts" formed the basis for much of the discussion at our last meeting. Thank you for sending them. The board has recently reorganized and most of the new members, including Stephanie and me, have not been to the Centro Desideri. So, it was good to get a clear-eyed assessment. We think that Umberto is to be commended for creating the center, for purchasing the land and building the structures. However, some of his attempts to initiate projects to help the local people have been less than successful. You can see evidence of that at the center; the empty fish pond, the weedy garden, the underused infirmary. We think that the primary problem is that the center lacks a trained person on site every day. The problem for us as an organization is that we do not have the funds to hire such a person. We are looking into grants to fund such a position, but I don't know where that will lead. Do you think that the Peace Corps could supply such a person? I'm asking you first because I'd like to know if this is even feasible. We would be willing to have this person live at the center and use the facilities as he/she saw fit. Basically, we would provide the infrastructure, the buildings at the center, and some other organization would provide the person with expertise in helping the local people. Let me know if this seems like a good idea. One of the catches to grant funding is that grant giving organizations want to see some successful projects before they committ funds, and we need the funds to begin successful projects. Get back to me when you can and give me your thoughts on this. If you think the Peace Corps in Ecuador would be interested in what we are proposing, I'd appreciate some contact information. Thanks. And thanks again for all your helpful observations. Tom
