Back in Town

 Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
The sudden end of a long journey After more wonderful things in New York - Shopping, Cocktails, Helicopter ride, Sunset cruise - and some culture - little italy, chinatown, gugggenheim museum, Museum of Modern Art - we finally took the flight back to europe. After another changed flight, due to delay of the oversea flight, we landed happily in Munich, where my parents cheerfully greeted us with an austrian flag! So we are back HOME! [View Full Entry]

The next island Leaving Nelson behind us, we drove the Queens Charlotte Drive into the Malborough Sounds. In Kaikura, one of our main goals on this journey, we managed to see whales! 2 Sperm Whales and a couple of albatrosses. On an ocean drive back to Picton more Fur seals crossed our way. We took the interisland ferry to the north island, where we arrived exhausted in Wellington. Wellington offered us an awesome view on the scenic ocean drive. Furthermore we saw the "beehive" parlament and the civic sqare. The wonderful museum of art, history and natural science - Te Papa [View Full Entry]

Successful days! After we found the wonderful beaches at Farewell Spit and drove back via the mountains of Abel Tasman, we got to do some kayaking again! This time we paddeled a full day, unguided around the Abel Tasman National Park. Not only stunning beaches and wonderful islands were our company, but also little seals! They followed our kayak, swam in cricles and jumped like doplins! Unfortunately with a mobile phone camera quite hard to get on pictures, we managed to have one! This lead to the next point - the camera, which was broken near Punakakai is still damaged, but [View Full Entry]

Towards the north ... Finally we are hitting the west coast! Because of the bad weather we drove a lot and we have time to spare in the North ! From Queenstown we went to Lake Hawea and lake Wanaka to spend the night but then decided to go a little back to explore a Gold Mining region. We had time to explore the hill of Bendigo, the abandoned shafts, huts and other diggings while looking on the ground to find gold.... unfortunately no luck.... Then over the nice Haast Pass, on which we had very rainy weather, we went to [View Full Entry]

The more we see the further we would like to do... From Dunedin to Wanaka we saw a lot on the way. As we say in the previous entry we didn't do the southern part of the South island because we wanted to give more time to other parts AND IT WAS RIGHT !! From Dunedin we went in fact directly to Te Anau via Gore. Because we arrived there in the middle of the day, we decided to book a kayak tour in the Milford Sounds and go in Milford with the rest of the day to be able to [View Full Entry]

Spoilt for Choice After we settled in our new van, the problem actually started: we encircled all the places and things we wanted to do ... well, right after we crossed out half of them - else we would have spent at least a year here! Next day we kept us busy by visiting Christchurch and after some minutes we were convinced: New Zealand is fabulous! As soon as possible we booked a Maori-culture-encounter and a tour through the wildlife (park) of new Zealand - oh and not to forget the rafting. The next day we spent bone carving - as [View Full Entry]

Great Ocean Road
without words...
bye bye kangoroo, hello kiwi Since the last entry quite a lot of water run down the Yarra river in Melbourne. This is where we headed to fly out of Australia! but before there are some more stories to tell: * Finishing the Great Ocean Road: in Otway national park, we were sent to a camping place with about half an hour drive with uncealed road - Nico wasn't happy, but therefore we gained a nice breakfast at the beach in the national park (which we just read might be closed for tourism soon) * Checking out the ship wreck coast: [View Full Entry]

On the great Ocean Road !! 1st day We left Melbourne yesterday morning towards first Geelong then off to the Great Ocean Road. In Geelong we went to an Aboriginal Cultural center in order to try some boomerang throwings (without much success). After that we went 'till Torquay to see the Bells Beach and discover the surfing museum there. The great ocean road actually starts in Torquay and from then on we had a very nice time driving !The coast is superb !!! We did some stops along the way to admire scenery and at Teddy's lookout in Lorn we even [View Full Entry]
