fast times at "ridgemont high"...
Hon, What a rush. I though that I was, or used to be, an adrenaline junkie when we did scuba dives on wrecks at over 100 feet below, rafted category3/4 rivers or explored mountains and canyons that were "off the trail" but...your experience is a trump! I would love to see the video. (If you have not been ballooning, do that next. It is not as scary as tandem diving but oh, so beautiful. You will know what birds feel like floating through the air.) P.S. I hope your "dive master" was cute...sounds like the hook up was a little cozy. :-) Love, Auntie A.

WAY Cool!!!
I'm neither easily amused nor impressed! But THIS... off the chain! You are your fathers' child! Law school should be a breeze.. did you get the divemasters' phone number after giving him a lapdance?? HAHAHA

reporting from my bed in ccu
lesson #1--never tell your mom before you do something reckless that you are doing something reckless lesson #2 don't "ask" for my blessings when you know they ain't gonna be there regarding jumping out of a small plane even with a 'hot' instructor holding on lesson #3 don't tell me daddy thinks its cool or you may end up sleeping in the same doghouse he now occupies. Seriously, glad you made it back to earth in one piece and had the thrill of the moment, this will be a 9 week trip that no one could surpass unless they got to be on Survivor. Enjoy the rest of the days in Israel and keep those blogs coming.

.....and now, for my next act....
Truly the summer of adventure: penguins, sharks, safari, warthog carpaccio....and now skydiving. I would LOVE to see the DVD! Glad to see this as a blog entry instead of a segment on the evening news. Would you do it again? Solo? How are you ever going to come back to the mundane world of Florida and law school?

all i can say is WOW!!! definitely deserving of three exclaimation points on this. you are my hero. i am in awe. i don't think i would have the nerve to do this, but perhaps when we go to israell (together) you can talk me into it, using your fine arguing skills you have cultivated over the past 1.... well 21 years :) love you! can't wait to see you.

lions and rhinos and jails...oh my!
You are certainly getting to see some aspects of the criminal justice system that we never hope to see: supreme courts, prisons....all that 'dark underbelly' stuff that lawyers are involved in ;-] Is any of what you're learning applicable to the US? Haven't mentioned that I really enjoyed the safari entries + great job on all of your pictures, regardless of who took them. Thanks SO much for sharing your trip with us. Are you missing all the Harry Potter mania down there? Or must I assume that it is worldwide?

well, almost through
this is one of those blogs where there isn'/t alot to say regarding what you wrote. I guess if I was an affecionado of prisons I could make some pithy remark about the differences or similarities, and it would be cogent, but I am not and cannot. It hopefully was interesting to you. I hope all is going good as you wind down this portion of your trip and get ready to move on with a trunk full of memories and good positive experiences. 'We have totally enjoyed your five weeks as much as you, and will love hearing more details as you are home to tell them. Keep your pretty face smiling and have a safe trip back to Israel.

Here, kitty, kitty, kitty...
Hi, Shy: We loved your story about the big cats sitting by the side of the road, like "your parent's kitty". I would love to see big cats in the wild where we (the humans) are the ones in the "cages"...seems appropriate, given our behavior. Be safe and have fun. What a trip! It has certainly been the chance of a lifetime and you are a blessed young lady to have such generous and loving parents. Enjoy! Love, Auntie A. and Dwight

jerky sounds good
It is a very interesting blog to read about the culinary delights of the country you are in, and if you think about it how many people would understand schwarma or bislis, but when in rome....actually, being a bit of a jerky fan myself some of those jerkies sound actually interesting and colorful. We just got your car and for the moment it runs, hold your breath. Loved the safari commentary and pics, the mitzi also enjoyed them and pulled out two socks to prove her distant but genetic links to the lions. She really enjoyed the pride rock pic and loved the meditating baboon. so all in all it sounded like she knew that she would have to show her mettle as you have seen the real "wild things". Sorry you had to see 'boerish' (pun intended) behavior on your trip but it is also a life lesson and we know that the world is an imperfect place and people can be worse than animals at times. chalk it up to lessons learned and move on to make more justice in the world.l Enjoy the last few days of S Africa and keep us posted on all your new adventures.

You're in good company
Hey, if you want to be a successful lawyer, you'd better get used to swimming with sharks ;)

pretty pics
Once again you have totally awed us with your pictoral tour of south africa and all ita beautiful vistas and sights to see. I too like the guinea hen and would not object to one of those in the yard (as opposed to the noisome sand cranes that we do have). Glad you are getting great weather and from the pictures of you, you look great and none the worse for the wear and tear of uphill walking. Daddy is always on the ball to tell me when there is a new blog from you so you know he is loving this. Oh I meant to say that I got you a shot glass in Aspen for your collection (I keep forgetting to say so). I really lied the babbling brook and tree shots as you are right I did not need another picture of the mountain, but keep on taking them. I am anxiously waiting for the safari pics and hope you have a great time. Enjoy your movie and hope you get the book in a timely fashion as well. Love Mommy

Unbelieveable
Shylie...I am so proud of you for venturing into Great White water! Although I have done shark dives before...never with a Great White. Go Girl. Six to 8 foot seas...whoa! My limit is 6 feet so you are the brave one. Just got back myself from diving the deep wrecks of Key Largo but nothing compared to your experience. Was this with SCUBA?

the undersea world
Jacques Cousteau would be proud of you (as would your uncle Robert). Having been seasick once, I'm very sympathetic-- and know you're feeling better now that you're back on terra firma. Enjoy.

good for you
I am writing this comment on your first blog altho it encompasses both this and the shark blog as well. Kudos to you for both the blogs and the experiences they encompassed. Sorry you got seasick but at least you got to see the sharks up close and personal, and it is a good story for later on. Your community service also sounds admirable and again something that will stick with you for very many years. It is always remarkable to see life thru the eyes of others and get a whole new pespective on what life holds for each of us. Think how different you would be except for the accident of your birth in the US to parents who could afford you everything you need, as opposed to in a South African township where existance is so day to day. I am sure that we each have a destiny and karma and perhaps yours will be to help out in some way. We are really enjoying sharing this with you and we look forward to reading more. Stay safe. no Penguins?
Wow a whole blog and not one mention of penguins? It is a first but it did sound like you had a nice relaxing week after several thag were full. Did you ever find out the rules for rugby? Actually I think there aren't any. Glad to hear you are learning the law and getting a free wine tasting course as well. altho it ain't a bad way to spend a day. Are you going to Robben Island at another time or is that a scratch? We are enjoying the blog and all the second hand kudos we receive re your writing talent. All the pics are great as well. and we forward it to everyone. Will speak to you Sunday, stay safe. Love Mommy

Ahoy, mateys!
Hi, cutie: Dwight and I loved the stories and pictures. As a sailor, I would have flipped over that scenery. There are lots of stories about hearty men at sea who have tried to "round the Cape" in small boats and then the BIG winds picked up. They then proceeded at great peril...or worse! Tip your cap to all those who perished in that gorgeous seacape. If there really is a Davey Jones locker, it is teeming with ghosts at the Cape location. Be safe and have fun. Keep those pictures and stories coming. We love to read them. Love, Auntie A.

Pirate 200 Years Too Late!!
Shy, I've always believed I was a pirate 200+ years too late. Seeing the Cape of Good Hope adds credence to my suspicions! Can't you just imagine Prince Henrys' jubilation at being responsible for the first ventures round' the horn!!?? Are there any plaques/statues commemorating Bartolomeu Dias and/or Vasco da Gama?? Dias was the first to reach the southern tip of Africa in 1488. In 1497 da Gama rounded the tip and began the all-water trade routes with Asia. Sorry for the history lesson... Loved the pictures and the accompanying dialogue... Thad
