Hey Everyone, I think it’s being about a month or so since I updated my blog. Don’t know if anyone even reads these but I thought that I would still write on the chance that people are. Things have being very hectic the last few weeks. I have being at site for about five weeks, which is to long for me. After about week four, I’m feeling the need to talk to my parents or use the computer. School has being slightly chaotic. My school director left to go to another town and he was not replaced for about two weeks or so. Then a new director came but he did not plan on staying in aoujeft and was only their for a week and a half and then left and now we have a new ... read more

Hello Everyone, Well, it's being a while since I posted anything on my blog which I apologize for. No excuse really, just got lazy for some reason. This posting finds me in the middle of Ramadan, though I'm not fasting but it sure is hot here. The other day atar hit 120 degress. Not fun by any means, but the cold season should be coming soon and it does actually get cold here during the night and day. So what has being happening. School ending in June and since most of my students left aoujeft to go home for the summer, their wasn't much for me to do so I went to atar and stayed for about a month. In july dad was kind enough to buy a plane ticket home so I went home for ... read more

hello everyone, I havn't written in a while. Don't know why since I've being in atar a few times. Just lazy I suppose. Well school is done with for the summer. I gave my final test to the students and unfortunately their were not that many that did good. We had a teachers meeting, which I missed, because I was in atar and found afterword that a great majority of my students either will have to repeat the class or are kicked out since that means that they've repeated the class twice already. Dissapointing to hear that so many of them did bad but it's not just in English that they do bad, it seems to be all of their classes as well. Many of my students are not from Aoujeft so they have now gone home ... read more

4/5/07 Sun, Sand, But where's the ocean? So I'm back. I know I haven't written in awhile. Being at site for a few weeks and only came into atar last week. I'm in Atar for spring break since there is nothing to do at my site. Some of the students have left since many of them are not from Aoujeft, they just live there during the school year. So their isn't much to do during the break so I thought that I would go to Atar. Latley it has become very hot, we are starting the hot season. Now I usually like heat. I went to college in Arizona as well as going to summer school for two summers and back home it gets hot in the summer so you would think that I could deal ... read more

hey everyone, it's being awhile since i last posted and alot of stuff has happened. after christmas i went back to my site for a month which is the longest i've being at my site without going into my regional capital. my freind from madden, which is two hours away from my site. he was on his way back to madden from atar and the taxi stopped at my town and he had to switch cars to go back to madden. he ended up staying at my place for a day or two and everyone in my village assumed we were married. when they found out that we were not married they all said that we should get married. dealing with marriage proposals is one of the annoying things about being in mauritania. most men that ... read more

As i mentioned in my last entry, i am a peace corps volunteer serving in mauritania. My site is called Aoujeft and it is in the northern part of the country, two hours away from the regional capital of Atar. It is a small site built on top of sand dunes. Quite alot of sand dunes actually which is not fun to walk in or when it is blowing fifty miles an hour because then the sand comes in my house. Think of a desert with tones of sand dunes and then picuture a city on top of that and you will have Aoujeft. I am speaking or trying to speak the local langauge Hassaniya and a bit of french mixed in as well. It is a dialect of Arabic and a very difficult langauge since ... read more
