So we set off aiming for Pichilemu a coastal town a few hours south of Santiago which is famed for holding the world surfing championships. The first trip to Villaricea and then to the next town was relatively esy. We then got off at the bus company39s coach depot and found out that we neede to be on the other side of town for the buses going in the direction we wanted. After some garbled dir

The next day was spent lazily walking round the quiet streets due to it being low season for tourists we went to the two lakes which were within walking distance of the two main central streets which transversed the town. We made our booking for the inevitable trip up the volcano and had a fitting for all the gear that we were gonna be using. With a 615 start and a walk to the departure point

Bariloche part 2 and the return to Chile

Amazingly the handover of the car the next morning passed with no extra charges being added or damages. Sam had driven very carefully but it was along roads that were really only fit for a 4x4. Having made friends with an English guy called Alex who was in our dorm we set out together towards the Circuito Chico a road circuit around no less than 8 lakes and all to the backdrop of the Argentinian A

We had decided to pay a little extra for a cama bus for the 17hour journey from Mendoza to Bariloche. We arrived at the coach station as the sun was setting and we were seated by 8pm in our huge leather seats right at the front of the bus. The seats were so big that there were only 3 seats wide. We were served steak and red wine as the sun set and we started making our way south following the line

Buenos AiresWe landed after a 4 hour flight which I slept through most of no surprise there in BA and after a lengthy wait at customs for the XRay machines to start working we left the airport and found the transfer bus to the centre. The sun was starting to set as we travelled down the motorway passing very lush forests and grassland. About an hour later we were off the bus and negotiating

Rafting CuscoThe weekend before my birthday Sam and I wanted to do some activities. The first was to hire some motorcycles to go up into the countryside that was a short but very steep 20 minutes away from the centre. The second was to go rafting again. From about the start of February the rainy season really started to kick in this put us off getting bikes but we still decided to book the raftin

Pisco and Ballestas IslandsHuacachina to PiscoThe 5 hour stretch of PanAmerican highway between Ica and Lima is served by a very frequent fast and well used bus service run by SoyuzPeru bus. The fares are cheap and it makes travel so easy. This is a less used tourist route as most people skip out this stretch. After a short taxi ride from Huacachina we were at the bus station in Ica and within

The bus continued from there for another 7 hours to Lima. From the bus stop we hailed a taxi and were given a good price for the short journey to our next destination Huacachina. However the draws of the infamous Puno carnival and a group trip with all the other Yanapaay volunteers meant that early one thursday morning we found ourselves getting a taxi to the bus sta

Eating cuy came into conversation with our spanish teacher at one of our lessons she had advised that the best place for it was Tipon a small village about 40 minutes outside of Cusco in the valley which was also home to some incan ruins.
