ecuador - From: Ecuador - where the the sun doesn't shine
My parents and I travel the world and I've been to Ecuador numerous times and all this that your talking about just doesn't seem too realistic. Where the hell did you go that they couldnt change one dollar, now that just seems preposterous. You also said that the sun only came out 2 times in one week what the hell? its ECUADOR the suns always out.

Love the pictures! but I must say this...YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING CRAZY!!!...I'm originally from Cali and travel there frequently, and I probably wouldn't do half the shit you guys did outside the city...If you get a chance to go back, make sure to check out Lago Calima, about 1 1/2 hour away...it's amazing and most of all...dirt cheap.....you can jetski, rent a big ass cabana, go fishing, and meet beatiful girls of course....keep it safe guys.

Horses in San Pedro - From: San Pedro de Atacama - Chile
Although you may feel like San Pedro was like a cowboy town, an unfortunate law has just been passed...no more horse riding through the center of town. There are other laws which are on the books and should probably be enforced, also. Maybe this is an attempt to clean it up for the increasing amounts of high end tourists who are staying at the increasingly high-end hotel enclaves, like Explora and others. Cheers

Like the rest of the people that left comments I was born in Colombia, La Floresta to be exact... I haven't been back there in quite a few years and I went on through a small search to find some photos because I was feeling nostalgic... and I must ay that your photos and comments brought some tears to my eyes. I am so happy that you were able to capture the true essense of my home, and I am so grateful to you for having taken the time and effort to share it with other people so that they can also see the beauty of my home. Thank you so much Sincerely, Natalie

youre nuts for having gone down the road in a bus with drivers drinking alcohol. ive gone down that road more than 300 times as i am a guide for the bike tour!! but i ive never done it in a bus!! seems like you had fun. however i have to say that some of your comments are incorrect since there is not one single piranha in the Beni river where you are swimming, and the plantations are of coca leaves not "cocoa".

Great site hermano- I'm heading into the Madidi with my father and some fisherman in May to fish for peacock bass and take in the sites. It's nice to see a gringo head into a place as savage and beautiful as the Madidi. Most don't have the fortitude or balls to do such things. Do you have any suggestions for me as far as animals or plants to look for and cool things to eat in the forest? Also- I was wondering if you took a bus from La Paz or flew from there. We're just weighing the pros and cons on how to get from La Paz to Madidi. Vive Bolivia!

I'm so glad to see the pictures of Gaudi's work again. We went several years ago but of course we took different angles than you did! It's amazing how much one forgets. I was just looking for some pictures for research for a story I'm writing on Gaudi and I'm glad I was sent here. If it's alright I might put up a link to here so that people reading the story can see Gaudi's buildings. Thanks again! http://www.thehomefiles.blogspot.com

Russ, pay no mind to the other jose - From: Jungle mish - Madidi National Park, Bolivia
I've been reading your blog & I think it's pretty cool what you did. I am Peruvian, living in the USA for many years, and Iam thrilled to see other people travel through my country and enjoy it the way you have. I think this jose with the nasty message is a fake. Too much venom to be a Peruvian; the language is too contrived, too home boy, slum-talking trash to be authentic. Just some idiot with the usual racist language you see all too often in internet chats, put in just to elicit the worst of people. Glad you were in places I haven't been in my own country!

ricos y pobres - From: Lima
I think Daniela and Lorena's comments resonate so bad b/c Peru is a country with , what? 90% poor people? and for someone to say, may be too carelessly, "most of us" rich people go someplace else, it is just a smack in the face of "most of us" who are fully aware of the racial, economical and social ills of Peruvian society.

Hi Russ - From: Long weekend in Scotland
Hi from the Browns, Uncle Ben and Auntie Rose that is, plus Sambo, Melbo & Jimbo. I might add I got in trouble at the netball courts for shouting out "Go Sambo". Just love your blogs, Edinburgh is great alright, good to see Sam and Tim in the pics. We are all going along as usual with plenty of sports, homework, bbq's and fnd's. (Friday night drinks to you). Looking for a pony for Sam, also going to Orakei Korako, on the mighty Waikato near Wairakei, thermal area and very popular for wakeboarding, skiing, and just soaking in the natural springs everywhere on the riverbank. Great weekend away with lots of families and kids, all in a big lodge. No cellphone and no tv. Shame you are away for Christmas, but an oe should include a white christmas where you make your fun with your friends in the same boat. Have fun, thinking of you, Haere ra.

Hi Russ Well well well, you've discovered my second favourite place in the world - EDINBURGH and Scotland itself. So glad you went there and it's just great that you think it's so neat. G'day - From: Off to pommy land
Howzit Russ , just checked out your photo's > good stuff! How far did you go down the Bow in Calgary? Was there last year , went for a cruise on it , just thru town to the zoo (in two $20 Walmart specials which we tied together) ended up having to save a backpack for a couple who tipped their canoe. Funny story = people were saying "hey your backpack!" and pointing i thought they were having a laugh , as kids do. Then this cyclist says hes been following it down and asked us to grab it , we eventually manuvered the two infatables over and ferried the bag to shore , he said we saved the day , it was nothing anyone else would have done in the same situation. Take it easy , Jp :-)

Larco Mar - From: Lima
Hello. Our names are Daniela and Lorena, we are 16 years old and we live in Peru. We really liked your web page, but we read a comment you made about Larco Mar, which is actually wrong. Its true that most of Lima's rich people (young people, mostly) go to Larco Mar to have fun, to go to the movies or something like that. But the beaches on the Costa Verde, below Larco Mar, are not at all visited by the rich people. Most of us go to the beaches further south, mainly on kilometer 97, to beaches called Asia, or other ones around them. The Miraflores beaches have free access, and are not very clean, so most of the people that go there are the ones that do not have the advantage and the blessing of being able to own their own beach houses to go spend the weekend in. Thanks for listening, we hope you liked Peru and will visit again soon :). Bye! - Daniela and Lorena

Lovely San Pedro - From: San Pedro de Atacama - Chile
great shot scaling the wall! Just wanted to say how much I loved San Pedro. The Valley of the Moon is breathtaking and is a great spot for personal reflection. And if you enjoy silence and space, there are areas just 30 minutes outside main san pedro where all you see is grasslands and a few llamas. but with a tranquility that is hard to describe with words. for more pics of san pedro, feel free to check out my pics from san pedro de atacama at Cafe Chuck.

I really liked the photos, it appears that modern society is encroaching upon these wonderous, ancient works of art. It looks like roads are going through some of them, which is a shame since they have endured for so long, until modernization/civilization brings its big ugly head to bear. Thanks for sharing. SWW

Lakes District - From: Happy Birthday Gav
In Balclutha, we're loving your Blogs, Russ. It reminds Lou and me of heaps of the places we went nearly 10 years ago! Keep them coming big guy! We loved Pucon and surrounds - got to the top of Villarica to see that spuming lava, and soaked in the same hotpools when we got back down. Also went to Lago de todos los Santos for, and had "muchas lluvia y viento" (has any of my Spanish stuck? That's meant to say "untold rain and wind"). We wanted to get out on the lake, but noone was going out that day! As you go North through Chile, I assume you'll go to San Pedro de Atacama. Instead of taking the train up to Uyuni we went from there across the desert/border/salt lake to Bolivia by truck. It was AWESOME. I reccommend you try the same. Ka kite, ehoa!
