Into Poole

Wednesday 17th June 2009 We visited St-Pierre Eglise this morning as it was market day and only 5miles away from the site very busy local market, lots of fresh veg and bought some plaice for dinner. This area is very much like Devon/Cornwall - lovely rocky coastline with sandy bays. Once we had our provisions back to site, washing and ironing, a walk and a lovely swim in the sites pool then Bar B Q - the plaice was delicious. Thursday 18th June 2009 Set off along the coast road stopped at Le Foret Joret lovely rocky bays, quiet villages much [View Full Entry]

Thursday 4th June 2009 Took a walk into the old town of Freiburg its only a 20minute stroll. The town gate leads to a warren of cobbled streets criss-crossed with small alleyways Each street has a streamlet (Bachles). These originally supplied industrial water but now they are playgrounds for all ages including Springer Spaniels! The pavements are cobbled and at frequent intervals have designs- mosaic. The Munsterplatz houses the Minster, which has numerous Gargoyles of varying designs The Munsterplatz also houses a daily market selling food, pottery, toys and fantastic flower stalls. Saturday 30th May 2009 Having rained again overnight the clouds were down hiding the mountain tops and it was cold quite a shock to us all having lived with 30c for over 3/52 it was down to 8c!! We note that Dorset was basking in 22c however we donned long trousers and jumpers and headed off to Konigssee. It is a lake 8km long and lies 1,800 feet above sea level, it is not accessible by road as most of the lake has steep cliff sides However, from the village of Konigssee, Electric boats take you for a trip of the [View Full Entry]

Thursday 28th May 2009 Left a sunny and warm Tulln and set off to Camping Winkl- Landthal near Berchtesgaden in Bavaria actually in Germany but nearly on the border with Austria and a short distance from Salzburg. Had a little problem when we left the autobahn as the road we needed to get to the site was closed for road repairs- we pulled in and were just wondering what to do when a lady who turned out to be South African living in Germany came out of her house to ask if she could help. We were soon following her husband [View Full Entry]

Wednesday 27th May 2009 Today after a windy dry night (plus thunder and lightning) we set off to Vienna (Wein). Austria had been hit overnight with electrical storms and torrential rain but we appeared to miss it though it was wet when we arrived I Wien. Managed to park underground just off Franz Josephs Kai, which runs parallel with the Danube. We walked up to Stefansdon- St Stephens Cathedral unfortunately part of it was being restored. However it was magnificent and the roof was spectacular, opposite was a new building which was designed to reflect the Cathedral - The Haas House. [View Full Entry]
