Allora, CAN YOU SAY MODERN ARCHITECTURE. It does exists here in Rome, I know from everything to this point you might have figured Rome quite building a few centries back but this is not the case. Look at what has happened ..lol The Jubilee Church is a catholic one, commisoned by the Pope in celabration of the last holy year 2000. So it  is a symbolical church in many respects.  The way in which is was constructed, I am not sure the architect was aiming for all this but the cleint says this is how it is so here goes.  The white planes that curve over and shelter the nave of the church represent the Trinity, which also resemble the sails of a ship.  Good eye, that would be because this church is symbolic of the church plowing ... read more

Buonasera, Well this is suppose to be the start of our long weekend. I say suppose to be becasue we were given our new assignment and have our independant project to do. So free is relative ... lol To give a clue our next group project is of St Ivo, which is one of the Baroque Masterpiece churches and by my favorite architect of that time period Borromini, San Carlo @ Fountains is also his. My all time favorite building of this time periond. The recent visit we took to it confirms this. So what we need to do is document this church with original photos ... becasue we know so much more than the professors and historians who have already documented it and put the info on the web for us.... along with digrams and ... read more

Ciao The gardens behind Villa D'Este (House Summer ... litterally ...lol) were my favorite part. It what gets me is this would be pope (he was never actually pope for whatever reasons so to consol himself he had a garden that symoblized rome from the view of the Vatican built into his garden - this way he could feel as if he was a pope) He was a very intresting caricture. It is funny I thought when you gave your service to the church you took a vow of poverty. They really must have missed that memo. Most of our great architecture we owe to the Catholic church. The house we have been to see have all been house of Pope's or the Pope's family. They works they commisoned to go inside of these houses were ... read more

Hi All, Well today I witnessed something I have never witnessed in Rome to date. The pick pockets are out. I read about it in my handy dandy Rick Steves guide book. But my having my A Game out, my backpack is always locked and nothing valuable is in my pockets - I was not taken. But it was unreal. I saw a group of three children swam in and make a ruckus and one of the people natives shooed them out and everyone was checking their pockets. But sadly on the way to Italain class there were tourists who did not have the A Game and they were gotten. Two elderly people, obviously a couple, got both of their wallets. It is very sad. But I am definatley going to be more carefull than I ... read more

Hi All, Today was fun,  It started with another migrane.  The weather here is so violent, one day clear and beautifull and the next is cloudy and gloom and raining.  But I was out of bed by late afternoon in time to enjoy the concert. See the link below.  Every year they have a concert on the first of May in celebration of Marx, well I do not think a lot of that was going on, but people we sure celebrating the beer makers.  I have never seen so much beer in one place in Italy.  Every where we go wine wine wine, but yesterday was a diffrent crowd.  Myself and Tomei found our way pretty close to the stage, thanks to my hand manouvaring though crowds.  So we had good views for about an hour ... read more

April 30th 2004

Hi all, Today started out on a not so good foot.  We were late getting to class but we do know where studio will be held from now on and will no longer be late.  In all honesty these streets are not very clear, how many roads do you know that change names from one intersection to the next.  But it is in a very unique side of town.  They call it Traverse, it was a part of Rome where the less desirable people were living. They developed their own kind of architecture and style to this little area and when Roma open their arms to them they put on facades to better blend with other parts of Rome.  But it still has a very unique style, you know when you have entered that part of ... read more

April 25th 2004

Hi All, Today is raining, or at least it turned that way half way into the day and I did not get much of the urban analysis done but see the note below and you will understand why.  It is hard to work when you classmates stay out drinnking till the weee hours of the morning and sleep till noon - but we are trying to focus on their good qualities - they are keeping the local bars in buisness.  There is a postive side to everything depending on the point of view.  While waiting for my group mates (which I called at 11:30 they returned my call at 1:00 ) So I vered off my urban analysis project start, which was at the Spanish Steps and wondered over to the Rotunda and Areluais Column (I ... read more

April 24th 2004

Hi all, Well I am in Rome - my home for the next five weeks. Definately homesick and missing everyone!!!! But here is the scoop on what has happened lately - I will post the two weeks of travel later on this week, so much and so many pics to sort through. Well I will address phone card issues. It seems for whatever reason se do not have a phone in our apartment, so whenever I use a phone card at a payphone the service charge eats up 90% of my minutes. So I will have to put that on hold and find another way to call home. But you can always call me I have cell phone. I got it in Genoa. (1010220 is great deal - hint hint hint) But back to my trip. ... read more
