We left luscious Langkawi, the Ibiza of Asia and headed for Georgetown,; food capital of the World staying in the Red Inn Court where the top bunk was so high that both of us were too scared to sleep up there! And then onto Tanah Rata, the tourist town of Cameron Highlands- home of the Scottish tea plantations. A very strange place, it is like Last of the Summer Wine for Indians, all driving Land Rovers of every age and description. I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed the Cameron Highlands, yes the tea plantations are beautiful, the factory visit a must do, the treck to the Mossy Forest divine, but it is the weather. A constant climate between 15 and 20 means no air con and you can actually sleep in the bed clothes ... read more

Sorry, i've done it again! I don't want to confuse, really i don't but ive found some more NZ pics and wanted to put them on the blog asap - in case me, rich, julian and the laptop get kidnapped by gin swigging, dagger gleaming terrorists, wishing to swap us in exchange for a scratch card. Anyway, we are safe and sound still in Langkawi (not NZ!) Enjoy the pics, missing you all... read more

Flying with Eagles? No not quite..but we have been 'cheats flying' (parasailing) and feeding soaring Eagles. Did the island hop a couple of days ago and now in Langkawi. The most polite way to describe or accomodation is basic..Langkawi is a funny island; the isolated parts have a real quality to them, with similar qaulities to Halong Bay - but the south of the island? Think run down parts of Spain. Despite this glamour having a whale of a time - went parasailing and lived to tell the tail, and decided to charter a boat (not quite as glamourous as it sounds but i at least want to hint at glamour!) for a fab tour of 3 of the Islands. All of this helped by our new companion on our travels around Langkawi; Boyce - who ... read more

If you are still reading this blog after all these months then, god bless you for the loyalty! So, where are we now I hear you cry? We have had a jolly good time in Georgetown, surely the home of the most fantastic food in the world (ok, a big claim!) Loving the mix of Malay, Indian and Chinese influences - did a spot of hands on cooking - making the fabulous Redang and a Pineapple Curry (it tastes better than it sounds!). Had the insiders tour from a local (thanks Tristian). Visited Penang Hill, just when it was foggy so saw bugger all - great timing! Done some more temples and the locals are so fantastic. Little old lady (trying not to be stereotypical but she was old, and little) took a liking to us ... read more

So its back in Asia for the final part of our trip, and then back to blighty just in time for me to see City win the league (you can’t say I’m not an optimist!). Singapore is fab – stopping at the smallest backpacker place going – it only has two rooms! Basically, it is someone’s flat! It’s a fab city, with a great China Town and Little India. The shopping centres are unbelievably glam – all very Ab Fab! Visited the Night Safari which was great and did the forest suspension bridge with all the cheeky monkeys. Currently in Kuala Lumpur which is boiling! Went on a dark caves tour of the Batu Caves - full of bat poo! Also, check out our rather short (!) Malaysian hair cuts! Missing the UK? Lol, you must ... read more

Now I know what you are thinking; they have turned into Pirates and are not coming back? Have won the Malaysian version of ‘Who wants to be a Millionare?’ Maybe it’s that we have struck gold in Oz? Afraid not – but we have found some pics that we haven’t put up before. Julian thinks they are real gems (even though – yep I know Lyn – he’s not on many. It’s the weather you see – he is finding it difficult to cope). So the pics – they are of NZ, some seen before others new – a real mixture. To help understand this mixture, here is a handy guide (Whales + Dolphins = kaikoura; Nice blue water = Lake Tekapo. Snowy Mountain = you’ve guessed it (!) Mount Cook; Water, Mountains and Rich n ... read more

Before we said our goodbyes to Gollum, we had a few more days in NZ. Stopping at Lake Tekapo – crystal clear blue lake with a massive Lord of the Rings like 360 degree view. Also stopped right next to Mount Cook – and walked to Tasmen Glacier where we saw icebergs!! Couple of days in Christchurch and Auckland before we said our goodbye to Gollum – Christchurch has been devastated by the Earthquake, with most of the Centre of the City completely cut off – buildings empty, houses ripped off coastal hills etc. The town is using cargo containers as a mini pop up town. Finished our NZ journey in Auckland; a really funky city – the views from the Sky Tower are great. In the pub at night group of local talent singing and ... read more

Queenstown, a tourist town on Lake Wanaka flanked by the ‘Incredibles’ mountain range and Ben Lomond. Ok that’s the boring bit done, Queenstown is an adrenlin packed playground and our welcome involved travelling by cable car to the sadle of Ben Lomond and looking down to Queenstown with hang-gliders above us, bungee jumpers below us, Luge drivers alongside us and jet boaters on the lake. So we took the soft start and raced the Luge circuit in a go-kart no less than 5 times. Then to the serious stuff…45 minutes on the lake and Shotover River in a twin jet boat driven by Kevin with a glint in his eye like it was his last drive…it was. The boat shoots down the river like something from a Bond film, aiming for any obstacle and swerving at ... read more

Had a fab time back in Sydney and caught an early flight to New Zealand. Flew over the Southern Alps - a simply fantastic view. Picked up out new van (dont tell cilla!) called Gollum!!! He's a Wicked Van! Went straight up to kaikora - the capital of the world for whale watching. Saw 3 Sperm whales diving - a cheesey, inspirational sight. After leaving Teearkee (the name of the Whale!!) on our way back we saw a pod of 200 dolphins - i hope you get the chance to see the video we caught, becasue they were amazing; just like something out of disney land. In the evening we went for a spot of star gazing- looking at the milky way, loads of shooting stars, star signs. Special moment was seeing Saturn, Mars and two ... read more
