I'm a retired firefighter who, after my January 2009 divorce, decided to become a fulltime RVer so I could see the USA. Since the beginning of "The Great Adventure" in March 2010, I have seen most of the attractions on my American bucket list, save attractions isolated in massive urban areas such as New York City or San Francisco where convenient RV parks are virtually non-existent. The last ten years have been phenomenal and have allowed me to spend at least one week in all fifty states, but the time came for Phase 2 of The Great Adventure. My original plan was to head for Europe in March 2020, but COVID closed the Moroccan boarders the day after my arrival in Casablanca. I ended up on an evacuation flight, thanks to the U.S. State Department, with a fistful of "vouchers for future travel." After the COVID dust settled, I bought a single-wide mobile home in a 55+ community in Mesa AZ and sold the truck and fifth wheel. In 2022, I completed that aborted 2020 journey with a five-month trip that began in Morocco 07 MAY and concluded in Iceland 06 OCT.
Shortly after my return from Europe, I began preparations for a 75-day cruise from 03 JAN to 15 MAR. We stated in Florida, sailed through the Panama Canal, made eight stops along the west coast of South America, and then cruised the waters of Antarctica for 7 days. On our return northward along the east coast of South America, we made a two-week, nine-port voyage into the depths of the Amazon River Basin and concluded with four ports in the Caribbean as we returned to Florida. Currently, I have a six-month trip planned for Australia, New Zealand, and Asia which will include four cruises – one in October and November to get to New Zealand and three more scattered around the vacation calendar. I will be on a solo flight in Australia and New Zealand from 25 NOV 2023 to 17 JAN 2024 and will be visiting several Aussies and Kiwis I met on my trips to Europe and South America. That adventure will conclude in March 2024 with a 7-day land tour of South Korea. I am, as always, looking forward to meeting lots of new and interesting people. I have a couple of ideas for more foreign travel after my return to America in March 2024 but nothing is yet scribed in pencil – let alone ink or stone. I’ll see what my 75-year-old body has to say about that idea!
