remlap - Nathan and Mels Big Adventure!

Nathan and Mels Big Adventure! Last year (2007) Mel and I decided to pack up our bags and move to the UK. Made this blog mostly for friends and family so they can see what we are up to in our travels (pretty much those without facebook!)

Have done and seen some pretty cool things already.... will try and keep this up to date so you can see what we have been up to.

Our 4 days on Santorini were quite possibly the most relaxing 4 days we have ever had. Lying under the hot Greek sun on a deck chair on the black sands of Perissa beach, drinks and food served straight to us.... felt like heaven! We were pretty tired from getting up early to get our ferry in Athens, but the beautiful sunrise departure woke us up nicely. 9 hours later and after 2 stops in Paros and Naxos, we arrived at Santorini. Getting off the boat was an experience as we were confronted by a pack of hostel workers all trying [View Full Entry]

Athens and Cape Suonion Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
This trip marked the beginning of our last ever Europe adventure before we head home to Australia, so we were determined to make it a good one. Our plan was to fly into Athens then do a bit of island hopping across the Greek isles before making our way over to the south west coast of Turkey, then heading up to finish and fly out of Istanbul. That was the plan and we had just under 3 weeks to do it. Our first stop was Athens. We flew in late on a saturday night to arrive at a similar hotel drama [View Full Entry]

Beautiful Barcelona Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona
Thought I better write a very quick blog about our recent (early september) trip to Barcelona and post a few photos. Trip came about as we found some cheap flights and thought we better take them as we probably wouldnt have had another chance to get to Spain before we had to go home. Trip was a bit of a disaster to start with though, arrived at our hostel about 11pm on a thursday night, didnt get into a bed until about 2:30am though. In short, it was a brand new place which had opened about 2 days before, and they [View Full Entry]

The view from here was amazing, hard to capture in a photo.
A few weeks back we had the opportunity to go and climb Mt Snowdon in northern Wales with a few friends. Snowdon is the second largest mountain in the UK at 1085m, behind Ben Nevis in Scotland (1344m). It was a pretty quick trip which was planned to the T (thanks to our very organised friend Martin), we headed up in a bus on friday night, woke up early and climbed the mountain on saturday morning and then headed back to London late saturday night. To say we were stuffed afterwards is an understatement! Our hostel was at a place called [View Full Entry]

another spectacular view

Thought I would write a quick post about my day at Lords last week, which really was a dream come true. When I found out I had secured a ticket to the second day of the second Ashes test at Lords about 2 weeks ago, I was over the moon. Thankfully a cousin of a friend of a friend of a friend of Mel's had a spare ticket, and that friend was able to get it for me, yay! The fact that I witnessed possibly one of Australia's worst ever days of Ashes cricket at Lords in history was another matter. [View Full Entry]

Magical Venice... Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
It didnt take long on our last day in Venice for it to hit home that we had to leave and we really didn't want to. We were really going to miss the sounds of the Gondoliers sitting on the canals calling out 'Gondole! gondole!' trying to get some business, or sitting in St Marks square at midnight under a full moon, eating gelati, listening to the virtuoso violinists and pianists playing to the rich people who could afford to eat there. Yet we could not be disappointed with the 5 days we got in Venice, 5 days of pure relaxation [View Full Entry]

One of the best things we have done while travelling... amazing views...
After a couple of very stressful weeks with work and a larger than small matter with British Immigration, we decided we needed a well earned holiday, so decided to take a week off and visit some new places. After about 5 mins thought, we decided to spend a couple of days in Salzburg and then catch a train to Venice. Little did we know this would be one of the best holidays we would ever have in our lives! We arrived in Salzburg late saturday night, which was a welcome relief to not be waking up at 3am to get an [View Full Entry]

2 Nights in Norway Europe » Norway » Østlandet » Oslo
For my 26th birthday we decided to take a weekend break somewhere so looked on Ryanair and found 5 pound flights to Oslo, Norway so said hey, why not! The best thing about this trip was we had no idea what to expect from Oslo, but what we got was a fascinating weekend at a place that way exceeded the few expectations I had. We flew into Sandefjord-Torp which is about 2 hours west of Oslo which was good as we got to see a lot of the Norwegian country side on the bus trip into Oslo. I couldn't believe how [View Full Entry]

Hello all... (well hello to the 1 person who may still be reading these).... a lot has been happening in the last 3 months since I last uploaded. Autumn had arrived and soon after Mel had declared it as her new 'favourite' season (which funnily enough changes with every season!). Seeing a proper autumn was another new thing for us and it was pretty nice. Spent a lot of work lunches in Russell Square, feeding the cute little squirrels (along with the other crazy old men). Winter came pretty quickly though and soon got very cold in December which was apparently [View Full Entry]

Mel in the leaves at Russell Square

Just had the pleasure of entertaining Mel's mum and gram for a few weeks over here which was a lot of fun! Besides Mel showing them all the London sites, we also had the opporunity to spend 3 days in Paris (which was our 2nd visit) and then 4 days in a cottage in Cornwall which were both amazing. Our trip to Paris didn't start so well as the train accident in the chunnel happened a few days earlier so a lot of the services were either delayed or cancelled, and there was a huge backlog of passengers trying to get [View Full Entry]
