Narrative is the work of the blind, as they say, who cannot see with their eyes, but merely look through their eyes. In a sense, then, one could say calling the subject of this text the "Pink City" is a bit of a misnomer, because the commonality extending to the color pink varies widely in each reader's eyes. Who to say then, whether the color resembles a 'tickle me pink' of crayola fame, or perhaps a wild strawberry. The mauvelous definition would require no further splendor, saccharine as the honeycombs of the delightful hawa mahal, while salmon would be impossibility [View Full Entry]

Zen Moodism

Greetings Hardy (and Hearty) World Companions! It's been a while since our last contact, but much has passed I must say. First the bullet points for those interested in the adventures but not the prose... I left off in the rice paddy, wading in muck. Since then: * Chainsawed some stuff, and cut down bamboo. My hands are purple. * Back to Kyoto for some Tokigi "No" * Zen Rock Gardens and Golden Pavillions * Nara with the biggest wooden building in the world * Koya-san, the holy mountain where I stayed in a Monastery * Nijo jin-ya, the ninja house. To my esteemed friends, family, and other readers, I am leaving in 5 hours now for a trek into the himalayas. Or at least that's the goal. The first step is an early morning bus to Haridwar, one of the more holy Hindu sites where I can bathe in the torrent Ganges. From there, we will attempt to make it into the himalayas, with suitable destinations being the Kerdanath Temple, Nandadevi Peak (or around) or the Kauri Pass. We don't have gear, correct clothing/footwear, or any idea how we're going to make it happen. If all else fails, we'll stay in [View Full Entry]

For those of you expecting a long drawn of update, I am sad to say I will disappoint. For those of you fearing the same thing, rejoice! First, an entire package of Parle-Gs has gone to a girl without a hand. She apparently did not share. More later. A fourth of July has come and past here in Delhi, with little to note except for the fact that Indians like their food spicy. Even their pizza as I've said. However, the Papa John's (and not Domino's like they always get) that we ordered to Hawaiian to a new level, adding "VOLCANO [View Full Entry]

My Friends, My Friends, (and my Family), I return three times umphant from my trip to the Himalayas. I'm not exactly sure what umphant means either, but it sounded like the correct way to begin this installment, which I will warn you is going to be long and arduous, like my trek up to the Kuari pass. To quote Santa's little Helper "I did things no dog should". I spent a lot of time thinking and reflecting and enjoying the scenery, but for those of you who are short of time, or at work, I'll leave you with the main events [View Full Entry]

Fellow compatriotes, readers of the highest degrees of longitude (specifically Aileen) and Latitude (probably Latisha, graciously added sophomore year by Karyn), I am alive. Indeed, taken alone, this does not seem to be a remarkable feat, but after tonight's events, it is at least noteworthy in my opinion. I am often accused of embellishment in my tales of travel. For the record the overwhelming preponderance of what I say is true. I occasionally change a detail or two for dramatic effect, but they generally just add coherence. In any case, tonight's installment is specifically spurred [View Full Entry]

Ladies and Gentlemen, Life-Warriors of the Highest Caliber, I have arrived in indelibly in Delhi. They won't know what hit them by the end. I started a couple years back a UPenn version of "How many 5 year olds can you take on at once (google it)", and here I feel like it will be the same type of endeavor, replacing "5 year olds" with "Indian Obstacles." Baggage lighter, grudge with Qatar airways settled, and after a half hour of calling (realizing shortly into the affair that the driver I was supposed to meet didn't speak English), I was on my [View Full Entry]

Greetings World Travelers, The Eternal Watchers, Winged Members of the Jury, I write from Florence, city of eternal love, a veritable ocean of culture, in which I have nearly drowned. As per request, and as would be fitting in the town, I will construct 'epic poetry' on the fly to document my journeys. But before I should make a quick note of my incredible Italian inventory. The trip was one of art, and the expansion of my artistic palette to now include more of the primary Italian colors, not only of art, but also of Gelato, which we sampled at least [View Full Entry]

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas Travelers, I look out on the white dunes a poorer, poorer man from this point in Qatar. I must admonish in advance that my sleep schedule since leaving Japan (and even before, to be perfectly honest) has been less circadian rhythmic and more circadian 'atonal, uncoordinated deaf child doing the macarena' (I bet there's a youtube video of that, but I swear I just made that up for illustrative purposes). I'm actually in fairly good spirits having slept a couple of hours and having decided to splurge on the $15 travel adapter (Why didn't I buy [View Full Entry]

Hello All, I generally made the culturally insensitive insult 'I hope your ancestors drown in the rice paddies' to my friends of the asian persuasion (it rhymes). They generally were not amused. Now I know its entirely possible. Im in Sazae, in Hiyoshi-cho, which is way the hell out in the middle of japan (about an hour outside of Kyoto). Ive literally been working in the rice fields. Asian style, with rice seedlings, toads, snakes, and water up to your shins. Ive also been felling bamboo shoots that are massive. I get 10 minutes of internet everyday, so Im using it [View Full Entry]
