I am a 31 year old Male, who grew up near Chicago until the age of 20. At this point I joined the ARMY and moved to North Carolina for a 3 year tour of duty. At the compleation of this tour I was assigned to Vicenza Italy for 3 more years of military service. Apon my release from Military service, I moved to Munich Germany where I worked at the Easy Palace Hostel until 2007. At this time I moved back to my home town of Dekalb Illinois to attend college. After one year I longed-for a return to Europe, when the school offered a study in Ireland program. I am now in Carlow Ireland attending Carlow college. This is a bit of what is going on, now in my life.

So after a day and night in Dublin, I took off to Belfast for the rest of the weekend. The Bus ticket only cost € 22,00 with return, what a deal. The bus runs each hour, I thought, well what do I have to loose? I came to Ireland to see the country and live it up as long as I can, before I have to go back to America. The bus ride was uneventful, the view,,well it reminded me of Italy. No notable characteristics. Where are the mountains, cliffs and waterfalls? Not on this side of Ireland and its not spring or summer yet so its all brown. With the view lacking a wow factor, I turned to my latest 50 cent read, a drama-suspense novel. I realized on this trip, that in the time ... read more

This was the start of my weekend, Arturs just had his birthday on Tuesday, he spent the night worshiping my toilet. The boy has a long way to come when it comes to getting drunk. But then again, to be able to drink at 18, not happening in America. Wednesday, recovery day, just a nice sit, relax, watch movies and eat day. I came to Dublin to see if I could locate my niche in the city. I tried the Rock club the weekend before, ended with me walking out. What I am looking for is live music, with a bit of punk and or metal. I know that this is not Munich, but shit it can not be that hard to find. With facing defeat, I booked a hostel bed in Belfast. The weekend must ... read more

So the young lad finally grew a hair today...Yep, Arturs is now a man at 18 years old...OH how long ago was that for me? Yes, well we will not go there. He is a great lad and friend. But I know that now he can make it into the pubs its all down hill from here. There will be the wild nights on top of bars, coming home in the morning with numbers from who? And the praying to the porcelain god will become part of a weekend ritual for the next 2 years. No I do not miss these times. However, I did get the princess a Birthday card that I had a few students that know him sign. Other than that, now that he is 18....just like all of the fathers out there ... read more

With nothing going on in Carlow, Arturs and I decided to go to Dublin for the night too see what night life we could find. With waving off the true fact that he is only 17, but so close now by days, we decided to try our luck. With no problems we were able to walk right past security. OK, so you have a older friend who could be a brother walking in with, it is no longer a big deal. Heck, if I was working the door I would think nothing of it. When we first got to Dublin and after check in two of us walked down to the supermarket for beer and food. We ate at the hostel and watched a bit of TV while getting the home drink on. Then off into ... read more

This last weekend was nice and cool, I am still waiting for spring to get here, end the cold and snow already will ya. I went for a walkabout today, around town, threw town. Yep that did not take long at all. I did stop by the farmers market for a 50 cent muffin, was worth every bit. Homemade can take over the world. The real reason for getting out, other than I feel as I am getting fat. Is today in town the old folks home is up for closing. The house needs upgrades on a few areas, there are only 30 or so people still there and well we are dealing with political leaders of the community. The one thing that I have never understood is how we (society) place such a hype on ... read more

February 4th 2009

On Wednesdays I do not have class. My original plan for these days is to travel and relax a bit. But with waiting for my money to hit the bank I thought it better to sit low for this past month. Artur and I had talked about meeting some time to go swimming. What I wanted to do was sit in the hot tub. He was able to get directions to the pool from his mother and sugested that we go today. With typical Irish weather (sun and mild) we decided to go swimming. Just one problem, I do not have swimware. So we set out to buy some. The second store we hit pay dirt. The store is, how about this, a sports store,,,Go figure... I found mine at 8€ and swim cap for 3€, ... read more

So today, the day that America becomes free of a political idiot. This one will be going down in the history books. Lets see not one but two wars, over seas, in Muslim areas, we are Christians...so where are the Jews in this? That's right they used to work in the banking industry. I think they are on holiday or went to Canada. Well, lets not get me started. I skipped class this morning, well an excused skip anyway. History stood still today so that I could make history. I went to Kilkenny this morning with Kelsy, just a bit south of here, for a radio interview. The teacher I have for Media Studies has a morning talk show, as well teaches us the finner points of interviewing.. I went, had fun and was heard buy ... read more

Well today I walked around town looking at what I left in the past. I miss this place.. I did think about comming over in time to partake in christmass but I thought it to be better to do this with family. Being here now I am glad that I made this choice. Christmas is a time to be spent with family and friends alike, and for the past 10 years I have had my own christmas. It was nice to come back and see the tree infront of the town hall. It made me realize that I wish my American friends would have come with. But at least I have the friends here in Munich. Just thought I would drop a few pics of the day. And yes it was cold. The thing that struck ... read more

Flights are pointless to write about. If you have traveled in the past you know that the food sucks and that if you want beer its going to cost you a fiver. The best thing to do is pop in the earplugs and go to sleep. Back at home :) you do not know how happy I was..... I feel as though I know this airport so well. It is a simple layout, the signs are pictures and just go with the flow. The customs are fast and great, when asked how long I would be in country I replyed until I can get a good beer or until the 5th when I leave for Dublin. It hit hit me that I was back home again. To speak of hopping countries and cultures as if nothing, ... read more

So dark and early in the morning I woke up to face the long lines, sreaming children, the travelers fighting with over stuffed baggage and just general confusion. I would say stupid but that is not the right word. The morning in was uneventfull, there were no protesters standing outside the door yelling at me to leave America and go back to Europe. Infact it was just foggy and warm. Infact the snow was melting and causing consern for flooding. The only downfall to warm weather is that the roads break up into masive potholes. I know that my Dad started having fun with driving around the breakups in the road. Then at the airport, it was the typical good bye and have a good time, email when you have the chance. And they were off, ... read more
