| 15th December 2009 bart | Your Majayjay trip is the coolest - From: Taytay Falls, Majayjay, Laguna, Philippines I was born in Majayjay but left the Philippines in 1971 and was last in Majayjay in 1973. Reading your Taytay trip reminds me of the yearly picnics we have in Dalitiwan, I never knew Taytay falls existed. Or maybe it's the same. Pardon me. But your description of your trip is really cool. My advised to you young adventurers is be better organized. Sleeping bags and tents might be more adventurous and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your really good writing abilities. |

| 28th November 2009 dennis rios | who to see - From: Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines I am not from pagudpud but i live just at the next town. I am from Bangui, the windmill town. If there are negative comments about your stay in any of the resorts, i suggest you go see and report the matter to Mrs. Emilen "Kleng" Garvida Sales, wife of incumbent mayor Marlon Sales. She is the chairperson for the tourism agency in Pagudpud. Tell Her, I suggested you seeing her. Aside from that, May i also take this chance to promote our own sites you have to visit when you come up north. In Bangui, we have several places that you may want to visit. we have, Abang Falls, The Ar-aruo resort in Brgy. San Isidro, Manayon Lake, Baruyen viewdeck (you will see that upon entering Bangui, right after the welcome arch), Suacan Underground spring (best place to take a dip!), Sentinela Hill and definitely the Windmills. I am just one of the people in Bangui who would like to promote our place to the world even if the local government doesn't do so. So please, spread the word, Bangui, Ilocos Norte has places/sites worthy of promoting to the world! |
| 24th November 2009 anonymous | - From: +15 in Dumaguete & Apo Island wow |
| 19th November 2009 Angel Lopez | - From: Ho Chi Minh: City of Motorcycles I was not surprised by your sad experience at the Vietnam border. My worst trip in Asia so far was in Vietnam. The people are the rudest and most dishonest people I have encountered in my many holidays overseas. They more often than not overprice their goods and cheat if they can get away with it. The Viets also have a violent streak probably because of their sad experience in the war against the Americans. I was actually robbed of my cell phone in Saigon. So tourists beware.... Vietnam Dangerous!!! |

| 6th July 2009 Amy | Saud beach resort - From: Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines In any place we all go, there is always a positive or negative feedback no matter what so please give them the benefit of the doubt. Saud beach is a great place for holiday. For some people they just want to b***h about anything and everything. |
| 6th July 2009 Amy | Regarding accomodations in Saud Beach - From: Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines Originally I am from Vintar, Ilocos Norte but because of my mother leaving for abroad, I ended up growing up and studied high school in Pagudpud. Saud beach is the place you are looking for if you want serenity and simple living. I left Pagudpud when I was 17 and left for Australia at that same year. Comparing to how it was up to now is a lot of changes which I am proud of. I have recommended the place to some of my friends here in Australia and as a result of their holidays from there, they had a tremendous time in Pagudpud and said they will go back again. Hooray for Pagudpud. |

| 19th June 2009 Mike Sy | - From: Bantayan Island, Cebu, Philippines We visited Bantayan during the long Independence Day weekend and stayed at the Seaview Apartelle w/c is a stone's throw away from Marlin's. The beach there is great but the local gov't should do something about eco-preservation and trash management though. All in all, Bantayan Island is a place worthy for a visit. Take a quit hop to the town of Bantayan and visit the 400 year old St. Peter & Paul Church and the Kota Park. It is recommended to make sure to order scallops and crabs since they are unbelieveably cheap! Cheap! |

| 7th June 2009 ykm | Where NOT to stay when in Pagudpud - From: Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines I know where NOT to stay when in Saud Beach. We booked ourselves at Villa del Mar, ignoring the warning signs after reading several negative comments about it. We paid the downpayment for 2 nights in a family cottage. We're a family of four and were willing to pay the expensive price of P4,500 a night in exchange for direct beach access, room size and privacy. We got there and yes, the room is big with 4 beds in all, but the bathroom was horrendous. The shower head wasn't working and there was a pail and tabo to "address that". The toilet bowl and pail and tabo were not cleaned properly and the bathroom door was covered in mold and broken at the bottom from wood rot. They had a tv - with only 1 channel. They had a ref - which was busted. All of that is NOT worth P4,500 a night - even if the room is big. We were determined not to let this ruin our vacation so we decided to check Kapuluan Resort - they took us in on short notice so we returned to Villa to retrieve our things. The people at Villa's front-desk have ZERO decision making abilities and I think they didn't want to let us go but I said not to worry we paid for 1 night already and then he let us go. He didn't even offer to transfer us to another room. He didn't offer to call the owners to inform them that they have an unsatisfied customer - he didn't offer to return my unused P4,500 or even a small portion of it. I couldn't care less, we just wanted to leave. Kapuluan Resort was fabulous, and Blue Lagoon Beach is breathtaking but not for those who like a lot of people or noise at night, or don't like walking (the resort is 7-10 minutes walk from Blue Lagoon). I have lived on a tent on Mount Banahaw and hidden behind rocks and trees to use the "bathroom". BUT, if I am willing to pay extra for comfort, I better get my money's worth. I wrote more about that here: http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Asia/Philippines/Province_of_Ilocos_Norte/Pagudpud-1388142/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Pagudpud-R-1.html |

So long guys, wish we could meet and person and share whatever we have especially in travel experiences. Ciao!!!!!! |
| 19th April 2009 Norma | very informative!!! - From: Taytay Falls, Majayjay, Laguna, Philippines I enjoyed reading your adventure story. There was an exclusive feature abt. Taytay Falls in one of the Fil. channels here...the place looks very impressive! We'll be in the Phil. the end of May & a visit to this falls is in our itinerary. The tv host mentioned a certain Dalitiwan Resort (hopefully, this is close to the falls). It looks like a comfy place to spend a day or two. Anyway, keep going on your nature trips. Me & my hubby do it every 6 months just to unwind. God bless!!! |

| 25th January 2009 port80 | To Joanna - From: El Nido & Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines Hi Joanna :) Thanks for dropping by my blog. I really do think that Coron and El Nido are must-sees. By all means, go ahead with your Coron trip and then try to schedule the El Nido trip another time :) In terms of prioritizing, you'll need a longer time planning for the El Nido trip if you want to hit Port Barton in the same trip. You can only do the Port Barton trip if you are flying one-way El Nido and one-way Puerto Princesa OR round-trip Puerto Princesa. Port Barton is halfway between Puerto and El Nido and you will be traveling by land. Public transport is hard to come by and unreliable so you will have to arrange private transfers which might take you longer. It also depends on how long your vacation is because I did the El Nido - Port Barton trip in 4n/5d and I still felt it was bitin, nakakapagod kasi sobra yung biyahe. Try to see them all though. It's really worth it :) I really miss the Philippines, especially since I moved here to Australia. Our beaches are so much more beautiful than the ones we have here. Buti na lang we've seen a lot of Pinas already before we left :) Good luck on your trip and I hope you have fun in Coron! |
| 25th January 2009 Jokes | Coron or Puerto Princesa? - From: El Nido & Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines I've been to Puerto Princesa last 2003. And it was a nice place to explore. I was able to do island hopping (snake island, starfish island, bat island, El Nido, etc...) and see the underground river. This year (particularly this Easter Holiday), I'll be going to Coron, Palawan. I just booked the flights and have to pay the tickets by next week. Would you suggest El Nido & Port Barton, than Coron? Looking forward to your reply! Thanks! |

I am hoping soon..No matter what and where I have been... my heart and soul belongs to Mayhay..I remember every rocks down the Olya river, the cool crystal water of Bulac bulac spring sa labas ng bayan...I grew up swimming, running the hills, climbing trees, staring at the blue skies while laying down a banig sa parang, and listening to the sound of the wind gushing against the coconut trees...not to mention the mouth watering lanzones and santol...yummm |

| 25th December 2008 Caroline | 3D2N or 4D3N - From: Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines To Cheche: Thank you very much for sharing with everyone your travel experiences/journals. These are very helpful, especially for those who want to go somewhere but do not know some one they can ask for help or advise from. I would like to know if a 3d2N trip for Laoag-Vigan is enough, or would you recommed 4D3N? I am planning to book for hotel rooms through internet and look for a local tour operator and check for tour packages only when i reach the hotel. Would this be okay and safe? I will be travelling with my sisters and my mother. :-) |

I am planning to visit Laoag-Vigan this feb 2009 with my siblings, 70 y/o mom and 6/yo niece. Would it be too much if i ask you to "make" us a 3-day Itinerary? Like where do we go on the 1st day, 2nd day, and 3rd day? It would really be a big help to us. We plan to just stay at a hotel in Laoag the entire time (Java Hotel as you suggested) - balikan lang yong pagpunta ng Vigan. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you very much in advance. |

| 16th November 2008 jojo | - From: Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines there are also public tennis courts inside the provincial capitol compound and at fort ilocandia. cheapest room at fort ilocandia is 2500 (casino rate) and 1600 at java. there are cheaper hotels like la elliana, parklane and isabel suites... if you're planning to visit ilocos i suggest you stay at one of those hotels since you'll be out most of the day anyway. you can rent a jeepney to take you to pagudpud for 1600. that way you can visit other tourist spots like the lighthouse at burgos and wind generators at bangui before proceeding to the beaches at suba (tho i prefer maira-ira or what the locals fondly call blue lagoon) it'll take another day to visit ilocos sur and the rest of ilocos norte. suggested itinerary is as follows- malacanang of the north, paoay church, marcos mausoleum at batac (then have empanada and miki for lunch there), juan luna shrine at badoc, the church at bantay, then vigan proper- pari burgos house, crisologo museum, chavit's baluarte and the heritage village-in that order. while there you can eat sinanglaw and try the barbecued vigan longganisa. last time i was there vigan longganisa was P80/dozen. another day is needed to tour laoag city proper. buy longganisa at tayamen's. it would be best if you can bring someone who speaks ilocano to avoid being fooled... people here are actually nice but you can't help but meet some who might take advantage of tagalog-speaking tourists. |
| 7th November 2008 mike | wowowee! |

| 25th September 2008 manny | Dont miss budyong beach - From: Bantayan Island, Cebu, Philippines Take a bus from cebu to Hagnaya port its around 90 peso , taxi is around 3 000 peso and not really faster. then take a ferry to bantayan (speed ferry is double fast then normal one) on the pier waiting a lot tricycles who can bring u for some peso to Budyong beach resort . its absolutly the nicest beach on bantayan 1 night stay is between 1.300 - 1.500 peso (aircon) very near are a lot nice restaurants, nightlife is very poor like on most of these small islands. these beach is one of the nicest ive ever seen in my life and the pic u see before cannot show how its really looking. i was there 08.2007 the weather was pretty good. i go again in end of novuntil 4th of dec 2008 the links are from beach and hotel http://s6.directupload.net/file/d/1563/nqt9sstn_jpg.htm and http://s8.directupload.net/file/d/1563/si4nrhfo_jpg.htm if u wanna know more just ask me here |
| 22nd September 2008 jnet | Awesome - From: El Nido & Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines Yes, I very well agree on your comment about El Nido. I am a local of Palawan and been to those places. I had visitors from Manila last 2006, and we made a trip from Sabang, made a boat trip to one of the island resort in Port Barton then made another boat ride to El Nido. My visitors were dismayed by the beach front of the main town of El Nido because of what they saw in Port Barton. Swissipinni is good, but I also recommend the Coconut GArden Island Resort. It is really a paradise. You could go snorkeling or hike on the island. and you can stay their for a minimum of 400 pesos for a night good for two persons, this is during the off-season to 700 pesos per night. If you want to know about this place, just look for it in your search engine. type coconut garden island resort, cacnipa island, port barton, palawan. Truly amazing. |

| 13th May 2008 teps | saud beach resort - From: Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines i wont recommend it if you only plan to stay there for a day since they will treat you differently from those who rented a room.we had a stopover there for a just 2 hours during our company outing last weekend and rented a hut at the picnic grounds...the staff werent accomodating.we were never treated so cheaply.their shower rooms and cr werent unlocked although they are pretty much aware that we were there not until we complained..we requested to borrow just a few spoons and fork since we failed to bring our own yet the lady manager refused and not even offered an explanation..and lastly, the CLEANING LADY, take note..the janitress came to us and angrily asked us our time of departure since the hut they gave us was previously reserved and the ones who reserved it are on their way while mumbling "500 lang pala binayaran niyo eh"...now ask me if we enjoyed our stay there...pretty obvious i guess...its so surprising that Saud beach resort is famous...ahh the beach is great really beautiful but the staff and service is another story.... |

What you can do is inquire with the hotel where you will be staying. When we were there, I heard some tourists inquiring about tours from our hotel's concierge. As for Vigan, you don't need a car -- what you need is a calesa! :) |

| 10th November 2007 vasili lim | erratum......! - From: Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines i am from ilocos norte and i just want to correct some of the informations about paoay church and paoay lake...first, paoay lake is not man-made, it was legendary. ask your friend why it is called legendary....definitely it is not man-made....second, paoay church stood there for four hundred years and no reports of falling debris have been hear.....even strong earthquake cannot destroy the architectural design of the church...it was only when a strong typhoon hit the locality damaged the rooftop of the church and it was restored based on its original design....i agree that inside the church is far from the old churches across the country....no major restorations and it was preserved from its original design...thanks |

| 4th October 2007 John Paul | Wonderful Photos!!! - From: Bantayan Island, Cebu, Philippines You have done a good job. It is quite amusing that you were able to present the place with its value which is a nice place. But I would like to suggest if you don't mind that it is more appropriate to refer or call it as Santa Fe, Cebu or Santa Fe, Bantayan Island in Cebu for the beautiful beaches are really located in Santa Fe and it sounds nice if it is called with its proper name... Thnk you again... |

| 4th June 2007 RCK | SAUD BEACH RESORT - From: Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines In Philippine standard, and obviously, Ilocos, considering the place is still in the process of development, the Resort is outstanding, it was quiet (we were there in March, 2007), serene and romantic (remember, I was there with a very special friend of mine who I reconnected with after 30 years!!!). Company is always the key but I recommend Pagudpud to anyone visiting the north!!! The people are very accommodating and courteous. The beach is equally beautiful. My friend and I had a tremendous and memorable time!!!! |
| 1st May 2007 port80 | - From: Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines Hi yannah, here it is: Hotel Tiffany - (077) 770 3550 |
| 1st May 2007 port80 | - From: Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines Hi kara, I was in Vigan over the Holy Week and did not anymore see the calesa in Villa Angela. Last year, someone emailed me asking for more historical details on that calesa because an antique collector wanted to buy it -- maybe someone really has bought it already. |
| 30th April 2007 yannah | hotel tiffany - From: Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines hello..can u pls give us the contact no. of hotel tiffany...thanks...here's my email add....denz_diane@yahoo.com... |
| 29th April 2007 kara | villa angela - From: Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines hi. i read above that the calesa w/c rep imee used on her wedding is already in cebu? is that right? i've just been communicating with the Versoza's (owner of the villa) for inquiries on my wedding plans and they did mention that calesa and sounded like it's still there and can be rented for weddings. |
| 21st April 2007 port80 | - From: Port80's Guide to Bangkok, Thailand Most department stores would carry those brands. I remember getting them in Isetann, in MBK's department store and in The Mall. |
| 21st April 2007 port80 | - From: Puerto Princesa by air! Hi Rexie, the pilot was a friend of ours so we did not "book" nor pay. Was told though that commercial helicopters charge around P40K per hour. |
| 21st April 2007 port80 | - From: Terrazas de Punta Fuego, Batangas, Philippines Hi Ana, the resto at Terrazas is relatively reasonable. You'll probably spend about 250-300 per person. Sanctuario is at the rotonda of Tagaytay, on the right side if you're coming from Tagaytay going to the National Highway. |
| 18th April 2007 Rexie | - From: Puerto Princesa by air! How were you able to book a helicopter? HOw much? |
| 18th April 2007 Ana | Question - From: Port80's Guide to Bangkok, Thailand Hi, where did you go shopping for naturalizer, speedo and psuedo in BKK? Thanks! |
| 18th April 2007 Ana | Question - From: Terrazas de Punta Fuego, Batangas, Philippines we are a bit on budget for meals since we booked 2 casitas at peninsula as we are staying overnyt. I am thinking to consider savings from meals, how much would normally cost a person to eat at terrazas resto? also, do they charge corkage for bringin in drinks? where exactly sanctuario resto in tagaytay? thanks! |
| 3rd April 2007 donna | info lang - From: Taytay Falls, Majayjay, Laguna, Philippines people, just want to let u know na nasira ung irrigation dun, dahil sa typhoon nung nakaraan taon, ung humagupit sa pilipinas nun, anyway, maybe they already fixed that up... i just wish na balik na ulit sya sa kagandahan nya .. | 31st March 2007 Don | Casa Verde, Good Food, Terrible Service ! - From: Port80's Guide to Cebu, Philippines Took a date to the Casa Verde restaurant off Ramos a couple of nights ago. All during the meal one of the waiters just stared/glared at my date. It was close to the closing time of 10pm, so I asked for the bill. The glaring waiter brought the bill and I paid. A second waiter came by the table 5 minutes later and asked my date, in visayan, if i had paid already, and she told him that yes, I had already paid. The waiter then opened the little book that they use to give you the bill, saw that there was nothing inside, and then , speaking to my date in visayan, demanded to know why there was no tip inside, and called me cheap. I was not paying attention to the conversation, but could tell by the waiters face that it was not a pleasant conversation. My date told me later, after we had left the restaurant, exactly what the waiter had said to her. I always tip in the nicer restaurants, but I leave the tip as I am leaving the table. Am glad that this time I had not tipped already So, Casa Verde, good food, but at least 2 extremely rude waiters. Anyone know the name of the manager or owner ? I would like to politely explain to them what happened to us, probably would not help, but I do like to let people know what their employees are doing |

Lst years prices were $15 per night for a room with a fan, and $25 for a larger air con room. Seventh night free. Food delicious and reasonably priced. Motorbike rental $10 per day for a 125 honda automatic. Toms email: tomsolski@fastmail.fm |

It's close to Octopussy Dive Shop...hmmm..that was year 2000 then.. |

| 16th March 2006 port80 | - From: El Nido & Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines Hi pokloy: You will have to stay overnight at Puerto as the last bus to El Nido leaves at 8am. By public bus, it will take you about 9-10 hours to El Nido. Travelling by boat is not only more expensive but will also take longer as you will have to take-off from either Sabang or Port Barton which is both 3-4 hours away. I don't think there are commuter boats to El Nido -- you have to rent the entire boat for the trip and I heard it can cost you a whopping P7K because you're technically paying for the trip back also. |

Good blog though. I plan to visit Ilocos this month. |

| 5th November 2005 cathryn | thanks - From: Port80's Guide to Singapore hello I saw the post and will be reading your 2nd singapore article before I leave. thank you very much for answering my questions! |
| 5th November 2005 port80 | To Cathryn - From: Port80's Guide to Singapore Hi Cathryn, I don't know if you'll see this reply -- you didn't use the PM function so I don't know how to get in touch with you. 1. It would be a stretch as they're on far ends (Jurong at the East and the Zoo/Safari up North) but doable. The efficient combination is Jurong and Sentosa as they are nearer each other and then the Zoo and Safari as they are next to each other. As you are arriving at 11:30, you can do the Zoo and Night Safari (Tues). If you finish early, you can even try to visit the Marina Bay area to see the Merlion Park, Esplanade and the Civic District. Don't worry about going around -- the MRT has trains until 12am and taxis are safe even after that time (only, they charge a steep surcharge for trips beyond 12am). The next day (Wed), you can join the Singapore Walk (I think the schedule for Wed is Little India) which ends before lunch. You can then proceed to Jurong Birdpark then go to Sentosa. Don't worry about needing to spend a day in Sentosa -- not all the attractions are worth going to. Personally, I'd only recommend the Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon combo (try to catch the last Dolphin show at 5:30PM), Images of Singapore, Orchid Garden and finally, try to catch the 7:40PM Magical Fountain show. You're free to explore other areas on your third day :) 2. The Original Singapore Walks are scheduled once every day only except during Fridays when you also have the Chinatown Red Lantern tour at night. It's a shame you won't be there to catch either of the Chinatown tours (Mon and Fri) as these are the best. Please check out my recent Singapore blog for other places to see :) Happy trip! |
