café con piernas - From: Santiago
if you order a "cafe con leche", you will always get some coffee and a bunch of boiled milk, although chile like many latin american countries tends to use instant. what you want is a "cortado", and if you want real coffee, order "cafe cafe". to see a truly unique chilean institution, try going to a "cafe con piernas". ask around for a good one. chile is a much strickter country in terms of law enforcement and regulations that pretty much any other country in latin america and their customs officials from north to south are very strict, especially w/plants or fruit.

my birthday - From: Remember, this is your country
Pokey, I am glad to hear that you are feeling better and that you are off to see the friendly, wine loving, beer drinking giant (tim). HAve a wonderful time, and I can't wait for you to get home. I need some snuggles. The Freiburg party was great, although you were sadly missed. Love you times a zillion, Shell. p.s. mom says hi, because she cannot type still. p.p.s. don't forget that my birthday is coming up, maybe i deserve a nice glass ring from a peruvian lady... or maybe something non-alcoholic from chile. p.p.p.s. Lulu says woof. She misses you SOOOOOOO much, and she smells bad. She needs you to come home and brush her teeth. arough! :) xoxoxo

Hola (upside down exclamation mark, or something) - From: Final Days in Lima
I just found this blog from your facebook!! I love it! It sounds like you are having so much fun. In Aus & NZ, people did the same thing about Americans and Canadians. Sometimes they would ask if we were American, and when we said "No, Canadian" they would be like "Oh of course, I'm sorry I thought you were American." Poor Americans!
