A Couple of days off led us up the river again. It was very hot and made us re-think the amount of solar power we need to run the fridge with the all neccessary food items you need for a weekend away!... read more

Langkawi 26thOct 2012 This time we flew with Singapore Airlines and wow what a difference! I had enough leg room with about an inch to spare. The minute we took off, we were given hot towels and served with drinks and food. We had a video screen to ourselves in the seat in front to watch recent movies and TV episodes, and we could play games with a hand held controller. We arrived in Singapore about 7 hours later. I have never seen so many skyscrapers before which made Adelaide look like a tiny little country town. Unfortunately, we only had 1 hour to get from terminal 1 to terminal 2 so we couldn’t dawdle and look at everything. We caught a sky rail which was so full, we couldn’t even reach any of the handrails, ... read more

We needed a break away from the hassles of work, so we decided to pack the truck and head off in the direction of the riverland. The weather had not been great for a while so we hoped for the best and were lucky. We left late after a long day at work, and got as far as Walkers Flat for the first night. The next morning after a leisurely coffee and raison toast, we moved on to Lyrup Flats National Park. We found a great spot (camp 11 or 12) and although it was a national park we could still take our dog. We had a Park Pass so we stayed for free, but it only costs about $7 per night. The river was a lot higher than we had seen in a long time ... read more

July 28th 2012

We couldn't resist returning to Bali again for a much needed break. We visited Sanur, Canidassa, Ubud, Nusa Dua, and a last night stay in Kuta. Bali 2012 The airport was full as we arrived as usual, and after going through customs, we caught a taxi still inside the airport, for 150,000 IR. Starting price was 300,000. We forgot that even though it was only about 15km away from the airport it still took 45 mins because of the traffic. The Puri Santrian Resort looked small from the front gate, but we didn’t realise until the next day how big the place actually was, with 3 pools and several restraunts. All the rooms were very discrete and we had a lovely balcony overlooking one of the pools. We got used to saying the usual “no thanks” ... read more

We only had a short break of six days to go away because of work so we left just after Christmas. The trip was a comedy of mishaps, and probably the worst trip in the truck so far, but we still managed to have fun. It was during the hot spell, and we still hadn't fixed the airconditioner in the truck yet. We travelled over 1000kms in 40+ Deg heat. Phil wanted to show me where the murray meets the Darling River. We stayed with our good friends Steve and Louise at Kapunda for a night, hoping to have them come up to the river at Morgan for the following night. Phil developed severe gout in his foot that night which we thought was the pain from his broken foot which he had just done at ... read more

It was time to try out our new Motorhome. We had a working/holiday weekend at the York Peninsula which was a perfect opportunity to test out our home/transport for the following couple of years. We are not quite ready to leave yet, but we need to fine tune our truck to suit our needs which will possibly take us a year! We travelled down the west coast of the peninsula and came back around the east heading back to Adelaide for 4 days and 3 nights.... read more

Bali 2011 1/8 After 3 days in Bali, I thought that I should start writing the blog before I forget everything. The flight was ok and getting off the plane was even better. It was lovely and warm and time to take off the layers of clothing. We got a taxi for 120,000 IR to our resort in Sanur (Bali Sanur Beach Hotel). The internet doesn’t do the place justice because it was stunning and huge!! Our room (480) was on the 4th floor in the quiet end of the resort – perfect! The place had 2 big pools and beautiful gardens. Both Phil and I had a headache from the flight or stress or change of weather but we didn’t care. We ate in at the hotel and had Bebek Guleng – duck with rice ... read more

August 26th 2010

26thAug Our flight back to Vila was at 11am so we had a few hours to wait, so we walked along the shoreline and waited for an internet café to open. The flight was ok and we were soon back in Vila. We caught the mini-bus to Villa Hibiscus and booked in to our room. It was very clean but unfortunately above a little shop which made it very noisy at night as every man and his dog came in to buy phone top ups every 2 seconds. 27th Aug We had muslie and fruit for breakfast bought from the market from the day before. Phil was not feeling too good so we slowly walked to the Nambawan Café for our internet and coffee fix. We then caught the bus up to the car rental place ... read more

August 14th 2010

Sat 14thAug We had a pretty rough take off due to the bad weather in Adelaide, but the rest of the flights were pretty good. It was warm and humid, just perfect after a freezing cold few weeks. It was a pity that I brought a barking cough with me. The mini bus we caught was a very worn out red bus, but it got us to our hotel in one piece more or less. The room at City Lodge Hotel was pretty basic but that went with the budget price. After dumping our bags, we bolted to the nearest café to have our first coffee in seven weeks due to our diet. It was great, and so was the view. After the coffee, we decided it was too late for lunch so we went for ... read more

June 13th 2010

Jun 2nd Hello Bali…. The flight to Bali was a little turbulent but not too bad - I must be coping better with the flights. Getting off the plane was a great relief - warm and humid. The airport was full of Aussies, and the line up took a while. When we got outside the door we were swarmed by taxi drivers. Having read the lonely planet book, we knew not to take the first driver that came along but to walk out of the airport and try to get a local driver. 300,000 Rupiah in the airport - 100,000 Rupiah outside. I have never seen so many scooters before in such a small area. There were up to 4 people (dad, mum and two kids) on one bike, some with helmets some without. We drove ... read more
