When I was in college there was a Malaysian eatery on the main college strip just adjacent to the campus, University Avenue or the 'Ave' for short, called Rasa Malaysia. The food wasn't all that special but it was different back then, and even now, where the predominant ethnic cuisines one finds anywhere in the States are Mexican, Thai, Italian, and Chinese. July 8, 2006 I was hanging out at The Strand bar last night. It was pretty empty, no more than eight to ten people. Met a guy from Vancouver, BC. His name is Stu, a teacher and erstwhile ski instructor at Whistler. A pretty cool guy who had been in Burma for two weeks, spending a few days in Yangon and said his next destination was Ngapali beach. Friday, July 7, 2006 Finally made it to Burma, officially called Myanmar. I flew straight from Frisco, through Manila, then Singapore, and finally, Rangoon. I was stranded in Singapore a little bit longer than I wanted to because I didn't realize that it took one full day for the Embassy of the Union of Myanmar to process the visa application. On their website, for the embassy in Singapore at least, it says that applications received in the morning will be returned by 2:30 in the afternoon of the same day.
