The Mountain City of Huaraz  » Huaraz
Here we are in Huaraz.. over 10 000 feet high in the andes again and taking a couple days to become aclimatized.. Our time on the beach was spent in good relaxation but alas we´ve taken to the mountains so as to embark on a series of expedition hikes... The first will be a four day hike through the Andes (which apparently has some of the best mountain views in Peru), taking only our packs and camping gear, including tents.. The elevation is extreme and often trekkers are afflicted with what is know as Altitude Sickness but we are going to [View Full Entry]

Well folks, I am off again.. This time to the interior.. I never did get any photos of the ocean but it is much like tofino in appearance, except HUGE surf.. I have had such an amazing time here in Huanchaco, and am thinking that if and when I slow my travels down a bit in South America and see Bolivia and Chile and Argentina I may just wander back to this town and settle in for a couple months.. Most nights were spent in the town center on the beach, hanging out with the street vendors.. the local nomadic [View Full Entry]

Tonight - Huanchaco

Huanchaco... It is so nice to spend a few days on the beach in the muy tranquil town of Huanchaco, outside Trujillo - northern Peru - after 13 hours on a bus winding it's way first through the steep slopes and sharp turns in the Andes during the night and then through the hot dry desert of the coast during the day.. But at last, today is the third day and already I've met many people here. Everyone is so friendly, and often as intrigued by the sight of foreign travellers as we are at the sight of everything around us. [View Full Entry]

So here I am safe and sound in Loja, Ecuador.. After three days in the quiet little Village of Vilcabamba and an afternoon of climbing through the Andes on horseback and a quick dip under the 25 meter waterfall (photos to be posted later when i have more time). We pack our backpacks and away we go.. Off to Piura, Peru. Or are we? See, I have this strange tendancy to forget certain things that are often vital to my existance.. Like, say, my passport/travellers checks/airline ticket/medical insurance policy and travel immunization booklet. All of which are in the bathroom of [View Full Entry]

Ecuador South America » Ecuador » North » Quito
Day 7 in South America.. Where to begin? I landed in Quito late wednesday night with Angie.. After many many hours of travel that day, two flights and a delay in Texas, we were at last welcomed with an overwhelming display of the mountain city at night as we touched down. Quito was a major eye-opener, the city is almost carved into the slopes of the Andes, close to 10 000 feet in elevation, nestled next to the Pichincha Volcano on the Equator. As you look around at the Andean mountainside surrounding you it seems that the city stretches up and [View Full Entry]
