The bridge we crossed on our way to Athens.
Last stop....Athens. This is the main reason why I picked this tour. I loved Greek mythology growing up and I wanted to see where it all came from. The journey to Athens gave us a glimpse of mainland Greece which was something to behold. It's the perfect blend of mountains, valleys, water and sky. I'm sure it's nothing compared to the smaller islands here but I really enjoyed it anyway. My time here was pretty short but here are the highlights: [View Full Entry]

Corfu, Greece

Europe » Greece » Ionian Islands » Corfu
Made it to one of the Greek islands. Definitely beautiful but I wish we could've gone some place less touristy so that I could have my Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants moment. But the water is as beautiful as the movies portray although it's a lot more salty than you expect. There wasn't too much to do here except sit on the beach for 3 days straight but it was a good time to relax after all of the traveling. [View Full Entry]

Rome

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
My Roman Holiday began at the Colosseum and ended at the Mouth of Truth. Loved it! There's a lot of history here but a lot of it has been destroyed over the years. You kind of have to imagine everything which was a little disappointing. But everything there that's old is really, really old. [View Full Entry]

Florence

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence
I think this was my favorite city in terms of the beauty. I loved the architecture and the layout of the city. You also don't realize how many famous people came out of this area until you really study the history and check out all the monuments. There isn't a whole lot to do but there's definitely a lot to see. [View Full Entry]

The history of this city is pretty sad. But it's impressive how much they were able to recover. This place is huge and they're still digging. [View Full Entry]

Climbed to the top of Le Chateau (more walking!), this huge hill that lets you look over all of Nice and the water. Amazing views from here.
You just have to see it to believe it. This place is gorgeous. I can see why celebs love coming here. I heard the real estate in this area in insane. The water is so blue...I don't think the pictures do it justice. We also got to take a trip to Monaco so that I could have my Grace Kelly moment. That royal family is like a real-life soap opera but everyone still loves them there. I expected Monte Carlo to be like Vegas but it's definitely smaller, more low-key and a whole lot classier...at least the parts that we saw. [View Full Entry]

Finally made it to another country...just when I was getting sick of baguettes and croissants. Spain is definitely a different world. Its history is pretty interesting. A lot of religious wars (esp. against the Moors), invasions and it's still pretty young as a democratic country. But I guess tourism is thriving here and its economy is growing because of it. I can see why. There's a lot to see and do and it feels different from the other parts of Europe that I saw. It's as if a lot of the culture has remained intact without as much "western" influence. It's [View Full Entry]

Wine Region

 Europe » France » Rhône-Alpes
Beautiful countryside, pretty good wine, but not much else to do there except go on a 3-hour treacherous hike to the "top of the world"...some hill where you can see the entire region. I think those few months of running last year taught me a lot about perseverance 'cause just when I was ready to give up I could hear Leon's voice in my head telling me to push it. Thanks, trainer!
