Ugly Cairo, Beautiful Cairo

This is my entry right after the travel : Cairo is huge, dirty, loud, unfriendly, often rip-off and complicated city. After taking bus and metro twice I decided to stick to cabs and bargain about the price. For me it all went well but almost all my friends got ripped off by taxi drivers. To keep it short : Cairo sucked. The city itself at the moment is only interesting because of its people and the aftermath or ongoing (subject for discussion) of revolution but not as a city itself. Yeah pyramides and markets are worth seeing but once u've seen them you're bored. Unless you know Egyptians..And here we come to the important part : I never met so many interesting and cool people who wanted to be my friends as in Egypt, they welcomed ... read more

This summer I planned to go to Istanbul by car once again but fate brought me to Cairo and almost all plans I had went to hell, which wasnt a bad thing cos it brought me to the craziest places and put funny adventures upon me. The trip to Istanbul went surprisingly well, Couchsurfing in Austria, staying at a Badukschool in Budapest, chilling out in Romania and then camping for 3 days in Bulgaria living off Pizza and melted cheese. Also Turkey didnt make any problems and Istanbul has great nightlife and a lot of interesting sights. But now to Egypt ; Cairo is huge, dirty, loud, unfriendly, often rip-off and complicated city. After taking bus and metro twice I decided to stick to cabs and bargain about the price. For me it all went well but ... read more

This is the extended version of http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Bulgaria/Varna-Province/Varna/blog-531481.html. _______________________________________________________ The travel was planned differently, but there was some trouble at the Serbian border so we changed the route, and now, later on I must admit that the fortune was on our side, since we could see the most amazing things just because we took a different route. We even accidentely ended up in Turkey (which for sure was never planned ;) Latvia When we started the travel it was kinda rainy and cold and we didnt believe that our car could really take this travel and already had an emergency plan made up what to do when it suddenly dies in the middle of a lonely road. However it did not happen, after the Europe travel it worked for much more time after some pimping. Poland In ... read more

After arriving in Niagara Falls at 8:00 with Greyhound bus with my summer runners that I already wrecked while having archeology digging I noticed that I wasnt prepared exactly well. The runners fell apart in the 20 cm snow and I only had a leather jacket to fight against -15°C and very strong wind. Also no idea how to get to the waterfalls, in this case..Walk. As usually. Tried hitchhiking but noone would stop, but then a car pulled over saying he can see that Im not from there because of my bag and giving me a ride to the waterfalls. Hitchhiking was illegal there he said. Uptight! The waterfalls were absolutely amazing, but I had to endure wet cold feet til 11:00, when I got some bags to put them in my shoes and look ... read more

Somewhat. NY indeed never sleeps. Up to 10 TVs in a small bar. 20% tips. Crazy republicans and democrats talking about how shitty the other party is. Party all night in the Villages. Washington in Spring is covered with pink flourishing cherry trees and strange tourists, must think of Forrest Gump...Baltimore being creepy at some places. Eating huge bacon/chicken pizza witz shivering fingers. HUGE greasy fatty burgers with a lot of cheese that would give you pimples in a few days. Drinking elicious beer in this strange Jekyll and Hyde bar and once going to toilet ending up in a whole different room with animal skeletons and other strange things...Walking 15 km from Harlem to Union Square, crossing Central Park with squirrels chasing you. Had the time of my life. Thx to Daniel & Josh.... read more

April 9th 2011

2 weeks in Israel in Dec 2010 / Jan 2011, travelled the whole country from the very north (Safed/Harmon) to the very south (Eilat) and inbetween. The most impressing things were probably Mountain Masada by dawn and the absolutely beautiful view onto the Dead Sea, the oily Dead Sea itself that pops you out and up like cork. Jerusalem Old City was absolutely amazing and the atmosphere at the Wailing Wall when the Muslim prayal and the Jewish prayal would sound up at the same time was impressive but at the same time it had something very threatening, maybe because of the upcoming storm. Diving in the Red Sea was one of the brightest and most colorful and interesting experience ever! Like a psychodelic dream.... read more

October 25th 2009

My second time in Prague I got to see much much more than 1 year ago. It's absolutely necessary to spend at least a couple of days in Prague. We stayed in Zhizhkov and walked around the town by foot all the time, using the tram only once. Also we of couse went to my favorite place on earth, Kutna Hora, which is definitely worth a visit of a couple of days too to see the sights and feel the atmosphere that rises especially by night. Also the drinks and the food is terrific, I can't reckon eathing something as tasty as the beef dish in Kutna Hora ever. In Kutna Hora we decided to boycott all means of traffic and walked the whole city by foot, which turned out probably 8 km in total. Good ... read more

August 23rd 2009

After a few hours a sleep after Slovenia I cought the plane to Alghero and right there I got picked up by my friends and we went straight to the harbor, jumped on the boat and went to snorkel in the most amazing waters I have ever seen. The next days I spent swimming for 10 hours, eating and meeting friends and their families. In fact my dear friend introduced me to her family, which couldn't talk a word of English but they were too friendly and kind and we spoke hand-language. I caught a bus to Bosa and there my friend picked me up and we went to the camping place and I stayed there for a 6 hour swim. The waters were transparent and the fish were freaky but funny. No wonder they get ... read more
