14-1-9 wind, relentless wind. the windiest place on earth. these desert winds on a coastal oasis. and i'm working furiously, no notice of economic meltdown here. the well-heeled walk their dogs on green watered playing fields in swanbourne. norfolk pines and peppermint gums. i've rented a flat for a base amid the gathering clouds of mass unemployment and asset deflation. keep your head down. or is it rebound? get in quick for a killing? not a healthy world! 900 dead in gaza, almost three hundred children. were they jewish children the outcry would deafen. obama good luck. i've walked on water [View Full Entry]

12-1-9 perth. the cloud studded sky rushes past. all the trees thrash in the strong southwesterly. my nerves on edge. after twelve days of over thirty two. and i'm hanging on in peppy grove drinking becks bier. the dingys have gone thru racing round marks with young enthusiastic crew. i've done my days window quota and wonder where we'll be in six months, dire warnings and relentless bad figures presage unique moment in our lives. as a historian i'm fascinated to experience a true turning point in history. gaia give me strength. nov 12 bird walks at yanchep national park and on the canning river, the latter being especially well populated. then yesterday a short count at pelican point with one of the birders i met at yanchep. we saw about twentythree species, three of terns, blackwinged stilts, an avocet, an unidentified predator. weather here very showery and humid. not perthlike at all. sailing yesterday. window washing today. so much work available i've been going hard all this week and last. the boom's bust not yet hitting the streets of perth. people give me more than the quote because i'm not in tune [View Full Entry]

nov 3 so to sit here in swanbourne overlooking that western shore after three years, to be 'home', reconnecting with family and friends at least i'm able to write these humble words when before paralysis of angst and indecision seized me. oh the golden west where resource riches ruled. it will be an interesting vantage point for WDII, world depression two, following logically from great war, great depression, WWII. andrew 'twiggy' forrest lost ten billion in a month, at least he can stil afford the absurdly expensive lifestyle here in w.a.. long walks on foreshore seeing birds i can't find in [View Full Entry]
