Glad to hear that things are finally getting better for the both of you. I'm sure you were aware that things like the start do happen. It will only make you both more adventurous I'm sure. Stephanie love your writings, very insightfulness is amazing for those of us following along with the two of you. Love the great photo of the two of you on your picnic. Contnued wonderful ventures and safe travels. I will continue to follow along with you two through this journey. Enjoy!!!!!! Lucille |

| 7th July 2008 GP | Site works well - From: Arrival in Ubud/Local Transvestite Sighting This blog site is working really well. Maps are great, pictures look terrific and your writing is magnificent. Eric's "brash" yet adventurous style is well complemented by Stephanie's softer and more detailed descriptive renderings. On a side note .. Mark spent the entire weekend with us and we really enjoyed him. Golf on Friday, cookout on Saturday and dined out on Sunday. Needless to say the food intake was superfluous and it will take 2 weeks of running to get rid of the excess weight. Enjoy paradise .. Dad |
| 7th July 2008 GP | good news for American tourists - From: Arrival in Ubud/Local Transvestite Sighting From Yahoo Travel - Remember the tightwad tourist whose baggy shorts, frequent complaining and shouted questions about why none of the locals spoke any English made the ugly American the world's Visitor From Hell? Well, it's time for Archie Bunker to move over and make way for Petulant Pierre. According to a recent international survey, the French are now considered the most obnoxious tourists from European nations, and behind only Indians and the last-place Chinese as the worst among all countries worldwide. And it's not only the rest of the world that have a gripe with the Gallic attitude: the French also finished second to last among nations ranking the popularity of their own tourists who vacation at home. But it's the unflattering image being reflected from abroad that may give pause to the millions of French travelers now heading off to summer vacation destinations across the globe. Will that move them to improve behavior the poll characterized as impolite, prone to loud carping and inattentive to local customs? If so, that's just the start: the study also describes the voyageur franĮais as often unwilling or unable to communicate in foreign languages, and particularly disinclined to spending money when they don't have to - including on those non compris tips. Over all, French travelers landed 19th out of 21 nations worldwide, far behind the first-place Japanese, considered most polite, quiet and tidy. Following the Japanese as most-liked tourists were the Germans, British and Canadians. Americans finished in 11th place alongside the Thais. Dad |

Good thing Gia is asleep right now....she will not be pleased at your T/V descriptive word - "hideous"! You do recall her fondness (err...obsession?) with T/V's? Haahaa....will show this entry to her tomorrow and maybe we'll get some commentary there. Glad you guys got things sorted in a nicer place - good luck as you poke around and discover your new surroundings! xo, Suze |

| 5th July 2008 mike | Ubud - From: Top end is overrated Ubud is still very touristy and still loads of cockroaches, but there are nice restuarants and excellent cultural stuff. Itīs also very atmosperic as soon as you walk off the main street:rich green rice paddies and such. Do the hike up Mount Batur if itīs still possible - itīs awesome. Hoping you can see through the commercialism to the charm underneath. mike |
| 5th July 2008 Christina | - From: Top end is overrated I think you should write a book! |

| 4th July 2008 lindsay | Pizza Hut - From: Up up and away!! Glad you cats arrived safe and sound! These blogs will definitely keep me entertained for awhile. | 4th July 2008 mike allen | Bali - From: Up up and away!! The key phrase: go with the flow. Canīt believe you stayed in Kuta! Donīt worry, itīs uphill all the way from there. Black sand beaches all over Bali, but Lomboc has white sand beaches. Are you going to go to Komodo? Happy 4th and happy travels. mike |
| 4th July 2008 GP | The weary travelers - From: Up up and away!! Wow! What an ordeal from Boston to your first day in "paradise". This is an omen that things can only get better. Stephanie's writing is magnificent. I could almost smell the stench and feel the raging traffic reading her words. This will be a great virtual trip for those of us following this blog If this is any indication of future descriptive writings. Good luck and hope by now you have rested with views of a real beach and visions of paradise. The adventure has begun! Gabe |
| 4th July 2008 Suze and Gia | Ahhh....Bali.... - From: Up up and away!! Hi Eric and Stephanie! First....let me tell you that I am decidedly envious - my long term "semi-secret": I have wanted to go to Bali since I first read about it when I was 8 years old! (it's only a semi-secret because most everyone who knows me, knows this factoid :) Anyway....so glad to hear that you are there, albeit with a rough start. Not to worry - that just means that everything is up from here on! Gia and I are so happy to be able to follow you along on your journey - always amused by Eric's colorful commentary! And Stephanie - it looks like yours will be just as colorful, so we're excited to hear more! Stay safe, stay healthy, have a ball and take lots of pictures!! xo, Suze and Gia |
