Well hello all. We just wanted to give you a quick update while we wait for our 14 hour bus and ferry boat to Zanzibar. Ok, actually we are at the airport waiting for our hour long flight. We have spent the last few days in Arusha and on safari in the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarengire NP. We spent 2 days driving around the bumpy park roads and managed to see a plethora of wildlife. I won't list the birds, but in one day we managed to see 4 of the BIG 5. A half dozen lions, dozens of elephants, gazelle, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, and coolest of all....the black rhino. There are only 26 of them left in Ngorongoro and we saw a mother and a baby...very cool. We even got to stay at a wonderful ... read more

Roughing it in the great outdoors in search of wildlife. What could be better? Well let me start with the single-prop four seat private plane that flew us deep into the bush. We landed on a dirt strip in (legitimately) the middle of nowhere. Our safari guide was there to greet us and take us to our "camp". The riverside luxury tent camp just outside the Selous Game Reserve. Canvas tent with six large windows perfect for early morning game viewing, hot shower, proper bathroom with his and her sinks, and a private porch overlooking the river. Our personal escorts around the camp, 2 Masai warriors, were there to make sure we weren't attacked by any wildlife en route from our tent to the poolside gazebo lounge/dining area. We were waited on by our personal wait ... read more

Well, it's Wednesday July 8 around 5pm here, and about 10am east coast home time. We've been in the former capital of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania for about 43 hours now and are eager for the adventure to start. Of course that is not to say that some has not already occurred. Upon arriving at the Dar airport we waited about an hour to get our visas and were ever so thankful that the hotel shuttle service did not give up on waiting for us and the driver was ever so patiently awaiting our arrival with a sign greeting Paci Eric. A twenty minute drive from the airport to the Golden Tulip Hotel, situated a bit out of the way on the Msasani penninsula over looking the Indian Ocean, the late night drive afforded us a ... read more

Well I know it has been a while. A week I think. It has been spent on the beautiful island of Ko Chang, Thailand. I decided after Vietnam to go and hang out with a few of friends from home there. I arrived in Bangkok in the evening and decided to stay on the notorious Kohsan Road. What a scene. Everything for sale from buddha lamps to airline ID badges. Sidewalk stands of little plastic chairs and tables selling libations by the bucket...literaly. I was there once before but it was on our whirl-wind tour last summer. I can't say I saw anything new this time around, just got a good reminder of the world gone wild. I went to see a crazy cover band, which frankly was pretty amazing. Metallica to Guns 'N Roses and ... read more

Well it is early, around 9:30am here. Not that early really but considering the condition of us when we turned in last night it feels a lot earlier than it is. We arrived in Siagon (Ho Chi Minh City) yesterday after taking in some western food and beach time. We ate pizza for dinner 3 nights in a row. One night we even went to 2 different pizza places. Sounds sickening now but it was a much needed respite from rice and noodles. Last night we went and had one of our last bowls of Pho for a while as we all leave Vietnam today. We got to do a couple of scuba dives and although the visibility was only about 2 meters we still saw some amazing aquatic life. We dove at Madonna Rock and ... read more

Where to even begin. Haven't had internet for a while. When I left off I was about to get on the night train. It was a good 11 hour journey in a "soft chair". There were 3 other options" Soft Sleeper - 4 bunks in a cabin, Hard Sleeper - 6 bunks in the same sized cabin, and Hard Chair - a wooden bench. The night went by quickly as Tristan and I wondered the train with our Vietnamese phrasebook in hand until around 11:00pm. We were the only non-Vietnamese on the train. It was great! We had a few local brews and chatted with loads of people. All so warm and wecloming. In every train car people would offer us food and ask us to sit with them. As the night grew late people started ... read more

The past few days have been filled with beautiful sites to say the least. I arrived in Hanoi, had a great meal on the street somewhere. We returned to my favorite place, the Red Bar. It is run by a guy in his 20's that calls himself Mao (how appropriate). It is filled with anti-American propaganda from the war and is totaly chilled-out......until the brown out stuck and then it became quite warm as did the beverages so we made a hasty departure. The next day (I of course don't even know the day of the week any more) we set out on a public bus to Ninh Binh. The bus ride was terrific. We all made a friends with the help of the phrasebook we had. I even got a gift from the farmer I ... read more

What a strange 24 hours to say the least! I got on a plane in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. Arrived at Novotel by the Bangkok airport around 2am. Took the best hot shower of my life. Slept in Bangkok, Thailand. Woke up and had breakfast with my friends Kristin, Christina, Courtney and Mikala(sp). Now I am waiting for my sister and her boyfriend, Tristan, so we can have dinner in Hanoi, Vietnam. Ahhh...this is the life! How I ended up here I don't even really know. I am really looking forward to seeing the coast here that we didn't get to see when we were here last year. The journey here of course had some ups and downs. Meeting with K,C,C, and M and up. My flight being delayed in Bangkok a down. Being able to contact ... read more

First picture a 7 year old in Papua walking 5 hours to school and then 5 hours home. Motivated by the fact that her parents couldn't afford the medicine they needed to recover from illness and she dreamed of being a doctor. This is where the story begins. I must warn you. This entry is quite wordy to say the least. It really isn't even very entertaining. It is however a small window into some of the things I have learned about this country. Read at your own risk...I highly suggest you partake of some caffinated libations while reading.... It has been days of basking in the sun, surfing, and hanging out with a couple of local guys. Not too local actually, they are from Java but now live here in Bali. They have had many ... read more

Ok so I'm not really in Kuta but I am right next door. The town is Legian for those of you following along on the map. Is the map even working? At any rate. I came here yesterday after moving out of the resort. I have to say that I wasn't too sorry to see the last of that place. I came here to Legian and then realized my $8 a night options were limited. I also decided that to console myself after seeing my travel partner leave that I needed a somewhat posh hotel, and I got it. You know swimming pool, marble bathroom, cable TV, and the likes. The entire time I've been here I have had a few ttoubling issues to deal with that I managed to put off while Stephanie was here ... read more
