I am a writer who never writes, but I hope to change that. (By writing.) I like rice pudding and tapioca pudding, and I don\'t really hope to change that. I hope that I always like rice pudding. I love a good adventure, I love to meet interesting people, and I love good music. What is my definition of \'good\' music? Well I like Dave Matthews a lot, and John Mayer. And interesting people? Well if you\'re friends with me, I consider you interesting. CONGRATULATIONS!

Travel Blog Posts

Well...I am not traveling anymore. So I guess I really can't have a travel blog anymore. BUT I have made a new blog. Here is the address: http://olivefacejr.blogspot.com/ I guess you could say that this blog is like a shout-out to all those people who feel that they simply cannot live without my disjointed ramblings, my emotional flare-ups, and all my other verbal weirdnesses. If that description fits you, then you must be one of my most truly loyal friends and I must say thank you. And at this point I should add an extra thank-you to all the people I know read my blog pretty religiously, because it meant a lot to me! (Bri Grummer, Melissa P, Melissa G, Fr. Mike, my mom, my dad, and a lot of my extended relatives and other friends ... read more

Well I am finally back home, and of course it's great to be back, although it's as little weird. I've spent approximately one year and seven months being away and dreaming about being home, with my family, in a familiar place where people actually speak English as their native language. Now I'm back and it's kind of shocking, after everything else. There was that year of study times, naps, saying the rosary, eating rice, taking bucket baths. Then I got used to moving around, studying yoga, learning to meditate, looking at temples, going on camel safaris. Then I had to adjust to life traveling in Europe...cafes, brasseries, Turkish baths, grand cathedrals, hostel dorm rooms. And now that I am home, I have to adjust to being home. Carpeted floors all over the place, endless free internet ... read more

Here is an entry I wrote in my journal on March 14th...I will just copy it into here. Hey! Well, a lot has been going on since I last wrote in Istanbul. For our second day in that city, we wandered across town to the 'Egyptian Bazaar,' which was a tantalising display of all different kinds of dried fruit, piles of Turkish Delight, and towers of nuts, candies, spices, coffee, and other food goods. The coffee smelled absolutely delicious, but we didn't buy any of that; we invested our money in Turkish Delight--which, looking back on it, was an awesome idea. That stuff is delicious, despite the fact that I don't really understand what it is and the texture seems to bear an uncanny resemblance to marshmallow. Anyway, after that we ate lunch at a really ... read more

Okay usually I don't write more than one entry in a day (okay I'll be honest I usually don't write more than like...once a week) but Turkey is absolutely awesome and inspirational and exotic and I have to write about my turkish bath experience today, before I forget. Okay so I have heard of Turkish baths before and I've actually been to a Turkish bath before, in Hungary, but it turns out that the Hungarian Turkish bath was not a REAL Turkish bath because...in Hungary there was actually a pool of water for bathing in. And also it was not segregated male/female. Well that's not the case in Turkey. Me and Colin went to one of the oldest Turkish baths in Istanbul today, and it was quite different. There were two bathing rooms--one for men and ... read more

So. I am in Istanbul, Turkey. It might seem that I'm moving around at an awfully fast pace, and that's because I am. And how do I do that? Well my secret is simple: I never spend more than 8 consecutive hours on stable ground. After my limit of 8 hours being stationary, some sort of internal panic alarm goes off and I must immediately jump on a train, plane, or ferry. Even a bus, occasionally, if there are no ferry ports or train stations to be found nearby. Now this might sound like a fun way of living but it is probably starting to wreak havoc on my body. For example, let's just take a look at my day yesterday. What happened to Cami yesterday? 5:30am The two other guys in our 4-person dorm room ... read more

Hey! Time to update the ol' blog...yeehaw. Well first of all I am in a pretty good mood because me and Colin are in Greece, where the weather is quite a bit warmer than it was in Paris or Italy or any of those other cold, losery places. And second of all I'm feeling more "sane" and "balanced" because I've sort of cut back on the caffeine since we got off of Italian soil. Since I last updated...well, we spent a few more days in Florence, which was pretty fun although kind of exhausting. Florence is a city of beautiful art, and as I explained to Colin, I do not think I really have the ability to appreciate beautiful art. I think a BIG part of this handicap comes from the fact that I am blind ... read more

Here I am in Italy, surrounded by dressed-to-kill women wearing all sorts of animal skins and furs...and unfortunately I still don't quite fit in, fashion-wise. Although I have to say that I'm not really into fur, leather, or bright-red crocodile skin purses. Or miniature dogs and diamond-studded leashes. But I AM into gelato, cappucinos, and high-quality wine. So far we are spending all our money on things that are definitely not good for our bodies...which is maybe a welcome change, after the OVERDOSE of purity in India. Two or three cappucinos a day, plus a glass of wine after dinner, plus lots of sugar, equals me being even more dehydrated and jittery and overall manic than I am on a normal basis. But it's more of a survival technique actually because we are moving at a ... read more

Okay so we are STILL in spain, although this was NOT the original plan. I have discovered that things can go wrong, even when you are not in India. This is simply not fair. And what´s worse: if you make a mistake in India, it costs you about four dollars. If you make a mistake in Europe, it costs you about 200 dollars. Blah, that´s lame. So let´s just do a senselessly quick summary of what happened, because I don´t feel like explaining things in a way that makes sense. Basically... Couchsurfing in Portugal... With guy who lies to his girlfriend about playing soccer three times a week... Colin borrowing shoes for soccer game... Big black guy punts the soccer ball... Colin intercepts the ball with his left eye... Optometrist in Madrid... Eye problems, come back ... read more

I am finally out of India and into Europe. It´s cold here and I am sort of wondering why I am still traveling around the world instead of doing something useful, like working in a boring office job. Then again, if I was working in a boring office job I would probably die. Anyway I am overwhelmed by being here and I don´t feel like writing a normal entry so I´m just gonna write down anything that comes to mind, in no particular order and with no organization. There have been a lot of major spanish artists who were really weird. Picasso is definitely a freak and Dali liked to paint giant genital parts floating around in cloudless blue skies. Europe is really clean and quiet, and that´s weird. I don´t miss all the honking or ... read more

Alright, I was hesitant to write about our activities for the last week, because we're in Delhi and life sucks. But I guess that if I'm gonna keep a travel blog, I have to write about the uninspiring times just as much as the inspiring times. So. Here we go. So first of all, the rest of our time in Rishikesh was awesome. People kept rotating in and out of our ashram, and it got quieter as the younger people left. Then we got a new arrival--a guy from Holland, who would curse loudly during yoga and who was practically more American than either me or Colin. He liked to pretend he was a gangster and make fun of American culture, and he knew pretty much every cliche or pop phrase in existence. He'd say things ... read more
