Crete 11-25 April 2009 Direct flight from Tromsø to Chania Airport, where we pick up the rental car (red Toyota Aygo). We almost miss getting the information about our hotel, and get only a small note with the name of the hotel and that it is in Platanias. We find Plantanias alright, but spend another hour or two trying to find the hotel, Melinas, because it is located on a back street next to the beach. 1/4 Flight from Sydney to Denpasar, Bali via Perth. Two days in Legian, Hotel Kumala, to do some planning, then on the third day we set out with our hired car, a Suzuki Jeep that sounded like a tractor and almost rolled backwards when you tried to go up the mountain with it. We had to wait 2 hours for petrol the first day as there was only one petrol station that still had any petrol left - the tanker ships were unable to come into Bali for two weeks before. 29-31/3 Sydney again Flight back to Sydney from Cairns in the morning. Earth Hour - the Opera House and the Harour Bridge both went dark and a lot of the other buildings too, but not as many as you would have tought. Earth hour is a manifestation to show that if you just turn of you lights you can save a lot of energy. 22/3 Flight from Melbourne to Cairns in the evening. I stayed 3 nights at the Bohemia Resort in Cairns while Gernot went diving on a live-aboard trip on the Great Barrier Reef. 26-29/3 Cape Tribulation and Atherton Tablelands We hired a car for 3 days and went north from Cairns towards Cape Tribulation. First to Port Douglas, which is a cute town by the sea, then to Mossman Gorge, a rainforest park where you can go for walks and swim in the river. 17-22/3 Melbourne, Hotel Formule 1 Not as nice as the Formule 1 in Auckland, we had t change our room since the first one was s dark wqe didn't know if it was night or day. 15-17/3 3 day trip from Adelaide to Melbourne via the Grampians and Great Ocean Road with Groovy Grapes. Driver Tash. White kangaroos - we saw them at a kangaroosanctuary near the border between South Australia and Victoria. Grampians - like the Blue Mountains, but drier and more ground down. Reids lookout with view of the valleys. Mackenzie Falls. In the morning of day 2 a 2 hour walk to the top of the Pinnacles, with view of the Grampians and the surrounding farmlands.
