Travel Blog | nicknack http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/nicknack/ Travel adventures in journals and photos from nicknack en-us Thu, 10 Dec 2009 21:40:32 +0000 Thu, 10 Dec 2009 21:40:32 +0000 together we are one person Friday I'm off to see my other half together in Munich two years ago we survived the chaos and stupid girl politics by combining our forces and coming out on top. The trip to Heidelberg was wonderfully uneventful. Managed to make both trains and their connections. People watching in Vienna before departure was fabulous I lost count of the number of people wandering around the station with http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Baden-W-rttemberg/Heidelberg/blog-295101.html all good things must come to an end... I suppose this may qualify as the biggest cheater entry ever at least in my world. I think Lana has two worse entries than I do case in point Antarctica and the Greece ones from home. But I suppose it's best that they are written as opposed to being forgotten completely. It's been a whirlwind of a last few days and I will do my best to capture what I can it may be best to ask me about some o http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Bavaria/Munich/blog-293453.html alping it up My apologies for the curtness of the last few blogs it's been a rough few days where I had to remind myself that I was on holiday and supposed to be having fun. Sometimes coming up with a stay positive mantra is harder than people give it credit. But hey Switzerland has calmed my soul and I've just finished paying an arm not the leg too just an arm for internet that will last me until I l http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Switzerland/South-West/Interlaken/blog-290914.html Burnt Monday cont... Had a nap after the blog and then wandered down the street and crashed into some beautiful Gaudi work. One of which was a house that had an incredible free audio tour learned everything I wanted to know about Gaudi and more Returned to the hostel after a few hours to shower and feel like a real person again. Decided that I should stop being an antisocial fly and make some friend http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/France/Provence-Alpes-C-te-d--Azur/Nice/blog-289370.html "as welcome as a turd in a swimming pool" That quote came up three times on the DDay tour it was our guide Dale's general comment on how welcome the unwelcome are. But again I get ahead of myself...This may be the biggest cheater entry do date as well as the longest. Grab a cup of coffee or a mug of tea and settle in folks it's been a gong show since the interweb and I were last connected. Thursday Woke up bright and early http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Spain/Catalonia/Barcelona/blog-287988.html europe stairs Anna and I have been joking for most of the trip about this. Dear Blog there are a lot of stairs in Europe. Love Nicky. However this is true. People in Paris don't believe in escalators or elevators and most europeans apparently don't believe in air conditioning but I'm getting ahead of myself.Monday Managed to drag myself out of bed early to beat the other 7 people in my room to the sho http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/France/Ile-de-France/Paris/blog-286271.html Brussels is ugly and we love it Lana refers to these as cheater entries I guess it's about time I did one. I blame HI Brussels for charging me 15euro for an hour of internet. It's the first place and thus far only that has charged me for wireless. As much as I adore updating everyone that hour was needed for more important things like figuring out how to get out of Brussels. But on to the update Thursday cont. Mad http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Hessen/Frankfurt/blog-285165.html once you go travel towel... ...you never go backI'm going to take a brief interlude here to write an ode to my travel towel quite possibly the best invention everTravel Towel so blueHow oh how I adore youYou keep me bone dryI barely have to tryOne wipe and it's doneI can begin my day of funTravel Towel so blueHow oh how I adore youFor those of you who have never experienced the joy that is a microfiber towel I can't p http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Netherlands/North-Holland/Amsterdam/blog-283999.html I guess I said I wanted an adventure... I just wasn't prepared for what happened after the last post bear with me folks this is going to be a long one. Wednesday evening I stayed home for a quiet evening. Wrote the last blog entry did some laundry in the sink did some dishes and then my computer started acting funny. It was taking forever to load running very slowly and making some funny noises. I turned it off for the evenin http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/District-of-Berlin/Berlin/blog-283016.html guimpy goes east ish We're here Here being Prague Friday where I left off We collected ourselves and headed to the Hofbruhaus for beer and meat to be eaten in that order. A liter of beer yum yum and a massive pile of sausage potatoes schnitzel and bretzels later we were off to a piece of theatre entitled Brain Fck. After a random tram ride and some jokes about experimental German theatre we wound up http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Czech-Republic/Prague/blog-281222.html and then there were five I'm collecting Canadians In Munich for that matterSaturday after a quiet day to myself I met Jessi at the train station. She's been staying with her host family in Venice for the last little while. I know it sounds like a dream vacation but alas things are far more complicated than that. It was wonderful to be able to meet someone at the train station kind of like sharing your adventure wi http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Bavaria/Munich/blog-279338.html adapting to being in "mode" Wednesday was a day to myself a day to remember that I am on holiday and therefore push myself to do nothing. I was up early and off to walk around the city. My favourite path to walk is from the hostel to Ludwigstre where the StudioBhne is through Marineplatz. I walked the loop and stopped by one of the museums I so enjoy only to find out they're in the process of setting up a new exhibit an http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Bavaria/Munich/blog-277227.html langsamer bitte Slower pleaseLadies and gentlemen we have a learning curve. Please note that this curve is actually more of a ninety degree angle which makes the curve more of an obstacle resembling a wall than anything else. Learn or get the hell outta the way the world is going on without youActually it's been great. Yesterday I bought a Handy cell phone in German After getting the phone back http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Bavaria/Munich/blog-276269.html battling jet lag I was also contemplating titling this entry back in the world of beautiful gentlemen but decided that this statement is the most relevant right now.I didn't sleep on the plane and that may have been the root of my problem. Kate picked me up from the airport she's an amazing soul who rented a car with her boyfriend for the occasion. They made sure I was safe and sound at the hostel before disap http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Bavaria/Munich/blog-275488.html Made it I'm here Safe and sound and in one piece with all of my luggage too The flights weren't bad at all a lot of babies from Calgary to Toronto and a peaceful ride right behind the spaceship section of the aircraft on the way to Munich. Checked into the hostel had a shower chatted in German with the gentleman who cleans the place. I keep asking him to go slowly but we understand each othe http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Germany/Bavaria/Munich/blog-275027.html Perhaps I should be worried... It's just under 12 hours until departure timeI'm packedI'm wired that weird blend of excited and scaredI think I'm readyAh well one day at a time right Right now it's about getting on a plane and going on an adventureI'll fret about everything I've forgotten or done wrong later http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Alberta/Calgary/blog-274668.html
