Sheltered
I couldn't quite put my finger on what I have felt; or the lack there of. I would have to say being home is comfortable. Comfortable for most people. I miss the new and un-easy feeling you get when you are traveling. Waking up to the same thing everyday doesn't compare to waking up in a hostel or on a couch surfers floor. Having to bite my nails in Atlanta for a while is proving to be harder than I thought it might be. One of the few things that I can count one to calm my insanity is your blog. Thank you for sending pictures and discribing your experiences. Bayly and I get married in April and we are looking ahead to our next traveling experience. Home is a nice place to leave! Alan

oh you visited my country too! im glad you still seemed to like it even though your friends phone got stolen. lots of pick pockets here. we're used to it. i have traveled abroad and yeah, people dont smile a lot. that just our way of showing that we're polite. coz its considered rude if you dont smile when your eyes meet someones eyes. its unfriendly, unattractive and unchristian

i love it when tourists interact with the locals. it is such a priviledge indeed to be invited to a local home and see how they live. damn it "priviledge" keep turning red no matter how i spell it. sorry, english is not my first language. what the hell! even the word english is underlined with red, i feel like a moron. anyway. keep writing. i hope i get enough courage to befriend locals the next time i travel abroad

I agree with you that India can be a love affair. This is why I finished my piece with the word love. I do not agree that you need to ignore things in order to enjoy India. I did not intend to judge in my writing. I just described what I saw and experienced. To pretend that India is not harsh and only talk about the pretty things would be a false and censored description.

Too sensitive
Let's be honest here Nick,when in India you gotta ignore things and not pierce thu every experience..otherwise India becomes the most harsh,wasted and impossible place on earth.. and this is not how i see India..if handled carefully it's an love affair.

Interesting
Nice one mate. I'm heading to Iran in about a week (after crossing the eccentricity that is Turkmenistan) and am really looking forward to seeing the other side of the coin there. It was interesting for me to see some parallels that Iran has with Central Asia, where I have been living and travelling in for about 8 months now. E.g. the virgin-at-marriage thing (in Kyrgyzstan modern women are shrugging off Islamic piety and engaging in pre-marital sex, and simply prick their fingers on their wedding night so that the sheet has a blood stain, which "proves" to the mother the next morning that yes she was kept pure for her husband), in the more conservative Uzbekistan I stayed with families sometimes and the women did everything the men just sat and watched TV (one my guests wives didnt say a single word to me, even though I could speak to her in Uzbek), in Tajikistan there is a small town that is planning to punish by embarrassment couples for holding hands in the main park by recording them doing so with secret spy cameras and broadcasting it on a big screen. It's all crazy! :)

Moving
Some of your best work yet. As I read it out loud I noticed I was smiling, cringing, and laughing. This poem is some of your best! I tried to pee squatting in my back yard and almost fell over laughing. I am also lucky enough to live near a really good Indian Restaurant which has never caused vomiting, hysteria, immobility, and hospitalization....at least not for me. Thank you for posting your travels. Bayly and I truly miss you! Be safe, be wild, and be you! When you come through America please pass through Atlanta and we will show you unmatched hospitality. You can walk the slave plantations, the Indian mounds (like small pyramids), go arrow head hunting with me and see some music! I did my best to make Georgia sound interesting. -Alan

Nick, I'm a big fan. For someone as young as you are, your talent to capture a "scene" with words never fail to amaze me. How I wish I can write as beautifully as you do. There is melody in your writing. How else can one write: "The view from the top is breathtaking. The smell from the bottom is breathtaking. " This piece is one of my favorites. Santa Claus Visits South India
A very good travelogue on Goa and Kerala tours with excellent photos. The Keralites are very literate and hard working, leaning towards communisim - the charges for boats are a little high as you felt; but we can find accommodation at reasonable rates, if only we search .
