Done. Home now, and getting over the jet lag. Flight home was cramped, but what else do you get in economy? Don't think we'll be going Areolineas Argentinas again, but we will be going back! Soon! Thanx to everyone we met, that was by far the highlight. Will be in touch with you all soon. Ciao!

Saturday Andrew and Rosanna took us to a large kids park, el Jaguel. Heaps of swings, slides, etc. free too, so it’s popular with the locals. It has BBQ and picnic areas, all the stuff you’d expect at a park. There’s a small fee for the trampolines (Ur$20) and for the go-karts. (Ur$25) We also went on horses for half an hour. (Ur$100) Zane, who’s 3, even got his own horse. Great for the kids, they all loved it and now, of course, want a horse. Juan and Teresa took us to the meeting that night and while we don’t really get what’s talked about, we understand a few words here and there to almost make sense of it…almost. We can find the scriptures ok, but they’ve normally finished with it when we finally find it. ... read more

Punte Ballena (near Punta Del Este) What a top spot. The view is absolutely spectacular. With good eyes, you would have a uninterrupted view to Antarctica. A long way, I know, but the water here is almost as cold. The days have been warm enough for a swim, and it’s nice in the heated pool, but I wanted to go in the ocean. Dipped my feet in and nearly had to crack the icicles off. Played in the shallow end for a bit, then slipped and fell in up to my neck. Brrrr! Jumped out gasping for air. Not even Callum would swim in there, that’s how cold it was! The hotel is, well, how you describe it? Different. No room numbers, just pictures above your room and that’s your room name. In fact, in the ... read more

Ah, Colonia. Where have you been all our lives? If you look anything up about it on the web or elsewhere, believe the hype. Serene beauty that has been somewhat protected to keep it set back in time. Portuguese laid cobble-stoned roads, they got there around 1680, with ruins and buildings in tact also. Those in tact have been restored though, and display some old relics of history. Most of the houses in the historic part, as well as the whole town, (pop. c. 20,000) are well looked after and painted brightly. There’s even an old Bull Ring here that’s falling apart and with no access allowed. I regret not jumping the fence and getting better photos, but there were young eyes watching. There are photos of the inside on other blogs on this site. We ... read more

Didn’t manage to go rafting - SPEWING!! It turned cold, and the wind made it freezing. Just stayed at the hotel, in the pool. Cal doesn’t mind, he could stay in there all day. Sometimes I think we could stay at home and just go to the pool all day and he’d be happy. On the last day we took a cable car up to Cerro Otto and had lunch in the revolving restaurant. Perfect unspoilt view of the Andes, as far as the eyes could see anyway. Absolutely fantastic. Shame about the food though. Maybe we expect too much, but the meals are pretty bland. Unless you’re don’t mind paying about the same as at home, the meals in traditional Argentine restaurants are tasteless. The Mexican and Chinese we went to were good, but the ... read more

Arrived at Bariloche yesterday arvo, a bit cooler, but by no means cold. Apparently they had a 3mt base two weeks ago, but it’s down to 1.5mt now. So we’re going on Monday and Tuesday. I went to the meeting on Saturday night by myself because Callum was sick, had a high temperature. There was only a few sisters who spoke English, so it was hard to organise anything for Sunday, or the rest of the week, especially with Callum crook. Didn’t do much on Sunday, keeping it simple before hitting the slopes on Monday. Marianne didn’t go skiing, but got a lift pass to go up and watch Callum at his first time at snowboarding. He refused to get lessons for some reason, so I had to teach him what I know…not much. He picked ... read more

Not much to say about during the day. Went to the Museum of Contemporary Arts-closed, to the ‘Garden for Kids’ (rides and shows)-closed, Pichincha (area of note)-yawn. The architecture is magnificent though, and if we could stay longer, we would’ve. There’s a fair bit we’d liked to have seen or done, like taking the boat across to the Island or see the north of the city. Now though, we were looking forward to going to the meeting on Wednesday night. One brother, Lalo, in his 50‘s, accosted Callum straight away. (everyone loves Callum, with his blonde locks) He spoke a little English, and loved to hear Callum talk about being able to play the keyboard and the different music he liked. Though he’d never heard of Powderfinger or silverchair, he loved listening to Cal, then explaining ... read more
