Hi everyone - I suppose you may well be getting a bit bored of all this travel spam coming your way - I hope not but I can fully understand if you are... ah well let me add some more fuel to that fire.... Claire & I are still in Mexico, seeing out our last days in a small town called Valladolid which is just a stones throw away from Chichen Itza (the most popular of all the maya ruins) with our visa´s running out on 11th June. As usual I just want to say how the hell are you? Hope [View Full Entry]

I’ve been really interested in seeing the ruins at Palenque for a long time now, abandoned by the Maya about 800AD and shrouded in deep jungle for centuries before being re-discovered at the beginning of the 1900’s. I think this is basically because of books like The Mayan Prophecies & Graham Hancock’s book ‘Fingerprints Of The Gods’ which give you the impression that these ancient folk had a lot more knowledge than we give them credit for. The most famous discovery here was in the 1940’s when King Pacal’s tomb was uncovered - which had an exquisitely [View Full Entry]

Well if it was gonna happen to anyone it was going to have to happen to me..... Arriving at Oaxaca City bus terminal at 5.30 in the morning Claire & I got off the bus after a sleepless transfer from the idyl of Puerto Escondido. Bleary eyed and a bit frazzled Claire left me in charge of her 3 hand luggage bags & my one little backpack, whilst she claimed the main backpacks from the hold of the bus. It was the first time we had travelled second class and although the bus journey and bus itself was ok the terminal [View Full Entry]

‘Breathe, Breathe In The Air, Don’t Be Afraid To Care…’ and so starts the classic opening track to Pink Floyd’s masterpiece album ‘Dark Side of The Moon’. If you haven’t heard the album where have you been! It has to be one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. So what I hear you say… Well, if this Blog entry would allow you to add a theme / musical score - that would be it. So with Pink Floyd gently caressing your mind waves picture this… We arrived at Puerto Escondido after an uneventful 8 hour bus journey, and with [View Full Entry]

Hi and big love to everyone… We finally left Puerto Vallarta and took a sleepless 21 hour bus journey down the west coast of Mexico heading for the bright lights of Acapulco… The journey on bus was touted at taking 18 hours to get there - 3 x 6hr drives I thought and we are done! So the18 hours came and went and we are still weaving up and down the mountains in the bus going south… A mosquito has decided my feet look like a good place for a bite and I’m trying to doze off as the sun is [View Full Entry]

April 2nd - 16th Puerto Vallarta - Just a Few More Days Hola! Time for an update again…. Hope everyone is good and well… So, continuing from where I left off, a couple more days in Puerto Vallarta turned into nearly two more weeks! We both fell for its charms big time… The place is so alive with Mariachi bands playing on the beach, fresh fish and shrimp on a stick served when you’re sunbathing, cocktails, more shrimp in the evening etc. etc… It is so clean and tidy and although major development of the bay has began further around the [View Full Entry]

We headed out of Mexico City and took a 5 hour bus journey to San Miguel De Allende. It’s a very, very pretty little town with cobblestone streets, glorious tree lined plazas and Spanish architectural styled buildings…. It reminded me of Totnes in a way due to its quaint streets and its full with artistically inclined culture vultures (painting classes in the square and Mariachi’s playing when the sun goes down). My stomach finally calmed down here and we found a very reasonable hotel to stay in… Not got much to report about this place. Very pretty but not a great [View Full Entry]

Well here it goes the truth, the whole truth and nothing like the truth…. Choose your weapon carefully… Being a complete novice when it comes to this travel lark I must say how completely amazed I was when entering Mexico City for the first time…. We arrived by plane at night and the illumination from the vast expanse of lights from the city beneath us went on and on as far as the eye could see, this sprawling living being with highways and roadways pumping the blood life around the urban beast below was truly awe inspiring… From media reports and [View Full Entry]
