I have a dream to cook and travel around Australia for a year. This desire has come from taking up camping as a hobby, with my partner and absolutely loving it. We plan on taking 12-18 months off next year and in the meantime we will take small trips, practice makes perfect!

This morning a friend and I got up early and drove from Brisbane to Mount Cooroora, Pomona for a few hours of mountain climbing. Pomona is a sleepy, small town inland from Noosa. Mount Cooroora is home to the annual Pomona, King of the Mountain Festival Where a number of fearless entrants attempt to go up and down Mt Cooroora the fastest to win the race. The start of the track starts off medium gradient and advances to the point where you are climbing on your hands and knees up rocks. There is a safety chain to hold onto for the majority of the climb and then near the top it disappears and you’re on your own. As we were heading up there were a number of people who were obviously training for the King of ... read more

On a Saturday we started out early to get to Lamington National Park. Once we reached Canungra, we headed up into the Mountains by way of a 36km, windy road that took about three quarters of an hour to drive through. The scenery was beautiful but the road was scary with the whole trip being blind hairpin turns all the way up. Finally we reached the Green Mountain campground, situated next to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat. Our campsite was situated right at the back of the campground in a hidden camping area for the Great Walk Hikers. We set up in a little alcove hidden behind some trees, very cute! Lamington National Park has a number of walks. The first walking track we did was the url=http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/lamington/abou... read more

Before I moved I had some doubts, and so did my friends, about me moving to the Sunshine State. Basically the problem was that Queensland doesn’t have any wineries, of so I thought. Since moving here I have been very pleasantly surprise by the fact that while driving around we have come across a number of wineries and the wine has been quite good! These are a few I’ve been to: Flame Hill Vineyard Ocean View Estate Maleny Mountain Wines These are the wine regions I plan of visiting: The Scenic Rim Mount Tamborine The Granite Belt What a fantastic surpris... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Woodford March 11th 2012

We set off from Brisbane at 5:30pm on Friday evening, which was the first mistake. It seems every man and his dog was trying to get out as well. Eventually we got to Woodford only to realise we really didn’t know how to get to our campground and it was starting to get dark. We found the road we were looking for but found that there is a serious lack of signage in the area and the road we were looking for wouldn’t come up on the TomTom or Google Maps. Needless to say we drove up and down a number of roads, did not find our destination and got quite frustrated, it’s all an adventure. We stopped into another campground called Neurum Creek Bush Retreat to ask for directions, we called the after hours number ... read more
