Today I got up and started packing for my big trip. I soon realized that there was NO way that everything I thought I was taking to Viet Nam as fitting into the bag I am taking. So I made a new bag to take to the B-team's apartment and finally cut it down enough to fit things. I mean, I'm going to be on the beach the majority of the time anyway, so do I really need much more than a couple of dresses, a swimsuit, and some flip flops? Survey says... nope. I packed up my room and paid [View Full Entry]

thank you cipro! Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
No more sickness, yay! I'd like to thank my drugs Cipro for always pulling through in the bad times :-) Today I got up and headed with Megan over to the B-Team's house to drop off my stuff. They are kindly storing all of my stuff except a little bag while I head to Viet Nam. Their apartment is so big, I probably could've left it somewhere and they wouldn't have noticed haha We stuck around to try and help figure out the 3 year budget for the school. We have to present it when we apply for the MOU. Figuring [View Full Entry]

Feeling Home Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
After my 2 am wake-up call, I decided to sleep in. When I finally got up, I headed over to Feeling Home and Sia had been working for hours already :-) I stayed there and worked all morning. I'm working on teacher trainer modules and splitting up the curriculum into weekly chunks still. I feel like I'm making progress, which is good :-) I was afraid to eat lunch so I stayed when Sia went to meet Adam, Jacinta and Megan. Eventually I got up the nerve to eat a chocolate croissant. Success! I stayed there until about 5 then headed [View Full Entry]

I woke up feeling slightly better today, but not ready to eat anything. I walked to the coffee shop "Feeling Home" down the street. The drinks are too expensive, but they have AIR CONDITIONING and WIFI :-) Two vital components of a workspace. I think this will be my official office from now on. I worked on some stuff here for awhile, and Sia came down to join me (he was working upstairs). I had a meeting at 4 with the NGO Education Partnership. I've met with them before, but I emailed them for more information about the MOU that I [View Full Entry]

my tummy's revenge Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
I woke up with no hangover (miraculously) but my tummy situation was worse. It hurt super bad. I tried to get some work done on my computer. I am working on solidifying the curriculum right now, and breaking it down into weekly units. I also laid in bed and watched more episodes of the Wire because I couldn't sleep or do work but I could stare at my computer. I finally decided that I needed to try to eat something in the evening. The only thing that sounded remotely good was pancakes with bananas. I got through one before my tummy [View Full Entry]

Thai food and pool Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
The next couple of entries are going to be short and without photos because I've been doing work or lying in bed with a nasty stomach thing. Sunday I did a little work in the morning. In the evening I went out with Maly on a date of sorts. We went to a Thai place. The food was really good but my stomach was already acting up so I barely ate anything. After dinner we headed to the lakeside- this is a popular area for backpackers and it's CRAZY. I'd never been there before. The entire area is on this one [View Full Entry]

lazy Saturdays Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
Did pretty much nothing in the morning other than chatting with friends online, watching an episode of the Wire, and lying in my bed. At 3, Adam, Sia and I had a meeting with this guy who's been teaching physics and math here for 15 years. He's from either Australia or the UK- not sure which because his accent is muddled and he mentions living and teaching in both places. Anyway, he's this awesome older teacher who is sarcastic and tells it like it is. He was talking about how rampant cheating is and how it's such a huge problem. He [View Full Entry]

wurk Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
Woke up with a bit of a hangover today. I think the heat and humidity makes me more prone to drunkeness and hangovers. I totally slept through my alarm and woke up to a text from Megan about a meeting in the afternoon. Had she not texted I probably wouldn't have woken up. Ever. I jumped up and got dressed and made it to our office at 9. Yes, we have an office now! It's in a building of some wealthy businessman we know. Nice building, and the conference room has AC- BONUS. I met a guy on the team who [View Full Entry]

um...
margaritas!

Sat on a bus for 6 hours after having a bagel sandwich (YES) to get back to Phnom Penh. It was supposed to take 4-5 hours, but part of the ride involved the bus driver BACKING UP for a mile or so because he forgot to pick up some people. Yes, I did just say BACKING UP. Like on a busy street. Totally safe, I'm sure of it :-) Got back to Phnom Penh and had a meeting at the B-Team's apartment (after a quick Chinese lunch). It sounded urgent so we were scared we were going to get bad news. [View Full Entry]

Batta-what now? Asia » Cambodia » North » Battambang
This morning we set off early to Battambang. Our minibus that was supposed to pick us up at the Banana at 7:10 (our bus was at 7:45) didn't roll in until about 7:35 (after Maly called them twice- and I'm sure Maly was really happy to get a wake up from me to make that call as well). We were convinced we weren't going to make our bus but by some sort of miracle we made it. Battambang is north of Phnom Penh. It took us about 5 hours by bus to get there- not bad when you have a book [View Full Entry]
