I can't remember what I did during the day on Friday, but I took Mason and Kat to dinner at Chinese noodles. It was their first time there and they of course both loved it- how can you not love a plate of 12 dumplings for $1.20? After dinner Kat and I headed over to Flicks for the all night Rock themed movie marathon. First up was Dig! Dig! is a documentary about the band the Brian Jonestown Massacre, a band that was up and coming in the mid 90's but never made it much of anywhere due to being super [View Full Entry]

The 19th was Jennie's last day. She had to turn in some stuff for work, and I did the usual job search/sit at Haha cafe til they look at me like I'm a friendless weirdo but really I'm just taking full advantage of free wifi. Jennie wanted to make dinner, which was yummy! I was supposed to have a job interview at 4 am/5 pm EST so I went to bed really early on the 19th. Unfortunately staying up late every night and sleeping in every morning does not make it possible to suddenly go to bed at 9 pm so [View Full Entry]

Jennie's Birthday was on the 18th, so we started celebrating on the night of the 17th :-) We went to Touk and hung out until after midnight. On the 18th we went to lunch at Bodhi Tree, then went to a pub quiz for birthday celebration #2. Our team name was "Jennie's Birthday". We didn't win, but we got more than half the questions correct, and didn't get last! We're going back next week and I need to practice in the meantime :-) Tomorrow is Jennie's last day, then I will have the apartment to myself for one night before Kat [View Full Entry]

Wake up. Eat breakfast at the apartment. Head to a cafe that has internet. Sit there for a few hours researching jobs, preparing for interviews (I have two now! Yay!). Head to the supermarket or home. Watch some pirated TV shows for awhile- right now we're on Mad Men, Season 1. Currently reading The White Tiger, completed American Psycho (great book but not for those with a sensitive stomach- it gets really gory in parts, more than the movie for sure). Either eat food in the apartment or order delivery- Phnom Penh has amazing restaurants that deliver- quite impressive actually. The [View Full Entry]

Job search by day, rounded out by watching an entire season of True Blood and a lot of 30 Rock. Out at night, dinners followed by drinks at The Place and the new Revolution and Pontoon and Memphis. Pretty much sums up my life right now. [View Full Entry]

On the 10th we went to lunch at Del Gusto, then I went to Time Cafe to do some work for awhile. I wasn't feeling so hot. I got really sick the night of the 10th so I've done very little since then of interest. Not that you need to hear my medical woes, but I had the worst earache of my life, to the point that I was crying and called my mom for support (I know I'm 29, but there are just some things that I always call my mom for- a bad earache is one of them). I [View Full Entry]

Woke up and went to lunch at the Java Cafe. It's the one place in the city where I can get a decent bagel, AND they have sundried tomato cream cheese. I still miss La Bagel Delight, though... We stayed there for awhile then all parted ways- I headed to the Time Cafe (near the apartment) where there is air conditioning and internet and worked on some stuff on my computer. I ended up staying there so long that I felt obligated to buy food there hahaha I went back to find that Jennie had cooked dinner, locklack (a Cambodian dish). [View Full Entry]

Woke up and had coffee with Megan. We went to the Haha Cafe, a cute little cafe above the Hotel Tokyo that has wifi. They also have good frappes and toasted sandwiches. We stayed there for a really long time as I caught up my blog and put some pictures of Japan on Facebook. Megan left after awhile to go get a massage and have a Khmai lesson. I met her at the apartment later, and her friend Wendy had just arrived from Bangkok. Wendy goes to Tulane for public health, so I have someone to talk about New Orleans with! [View Full Entry]

I finally rolled out of bed around noon today. I decided it was time to get it together, so I did 2 loads of laundry and unpacked my bags. It's so refreshing to actually UNPACK. I don't think I've done that much this summer :-) I then sat on the couch reading my book but fell asleep for awhile. Whatever is making me sick is still in my system- seriously, it can go away at any time now! I feel like all I do is sleep and I'm still exhausted. Maybe I'm just not drinking enough water for this climate. I [View Full Entry]

Woke up in a panic about what time it was in Bangkok... My phone was dead and I have no watch. I figured out that I could use my camera to see what time it was, and to my surprise it was like 6 am lol no reason to panic- my flight's not til 2:50! I went back to sleep for a bit, read more of my book, then got ready and headed out to the beautiful Kao San Road. That's a joke- it's not beautiful at all- it's the street where the world's spectrum of backpackers stay, bringing with them [View Full Entry]
