And what were the goats thinking? - From: Imprisoned Goats Freed from DRC Prision
This is so Kafka like. What a story! Some's got to write a play based on this.

Thanks for the support Ron! Really appreciate it-- it's easy to get discouraged training for the race as a volunteer when you know that everyone else has qualified and will be zooming ahead of you.

Have you tried... - From: So I'm running the ING marathon...
Just wanted to pop in and offer my best wishes. I did NYC last year. But not for my 25th.... My 45th... Its a blast. Hey, I used the program over at MarathonMethod.com. Its really good and very easy to follow. Joe, the author, is great. I had several questions he answered by email and I even called him once. Anyway, best wishes... Running Ron

Have been following your blog and hoping that you'd get out of the office eventually and see some stuff. Glad you chose the festival to get a different perspective. Your description of the rugby was great - the gooseflesh started at my ankles and prickled its way to the top of my head. I try so hard to be cultured but am predictably reduced to tribal incoherence when my beloved boks play! It great that you're putting so much positive energy into making a difference. I wish more white South Africans would do the same. We're in danger of becoming serial whingers. Am even more pleased that you're in Joburg. It's unfairly lampooned in my opinion. Have lived here (off and on) all my life and never felt a twinge of fear. Excitement and adrenaline maybe, but never fear. Good luck. Greg

I'll be learning from you! - From: Jumpin Joburg
Maria; I just ran across your blog. I'm a big football (soccer) fan. I was in Germany for World Cup 2006 and just returned from Europe for Euro 2008. I plan to go to South Africa for World Cup 2010, so I will be following your blog with great interest. All the things you learn about travel, especially getting around Joburg is going to be great help to me. - Cliff -

Cross creek vs alton's - From: Utila- last day diving!
We didn't stay at Cross Creek- we did Mango Inn through Utila Dive Center instead- Cross creek looked nice and is owned/operated by the same people as Mango/UDC. I heard better things about Cross Creek than Alton's but that was only from a few people! Weather was good when we were there- not too hot, good breezes, sunny with some clouds- Have fun!

AHH. Gosh I'm so jealous and miss you guys tremendously. I realized as soon as I stepped into the airport in Chicago how very NOT ready I was to be back in the states. I'm glad that you're having an exciting time though and really really wish I could be there. By the way, it just so happens that I've started reading a book titled "THe Cloud Atlas," sort of written in the vein of an 19th century seamen's/travel journal. Interesting. BUT he mentions in the first few pages something about the Maori people and I'm thinking, who the hell are the Maori people? First of all are they real? And secondly, where do they live? So--thank you ever so much for answering these pressing questions of mine. Life is funny isn't it? I miss you. a lot. L p.s. I'm going to send you an email in the next day or two. Tell Blake I said hello!

I know I don't know you, but I read your blog and I was so engrossed in your story that I got tears in my eyes and jumped up and yelled with joy when I read that you found the purse. I can only imagine your relief! I'm headed there in a few days and I'm going to keep my bag glued to me. :)

Blasphemy - From: Bia Hoi Saigon Stinks
You know bia hoi doesn't stink at all.. you just have to go to the right ones. I mean you enjoy pho from pho 24 and that pretty much says it all. People complain all the time about not enjoying Saigon and it's because you never leave the tourist track. I bet you're one of those that carries your Lonely Planet under your arm whilst walking through the streets of HCMC. If you are interested i can give you the address for an excellent bia hoi (and yes they still will charge you for wet napkins - they're not disposable you know...) and an excellent pho place.

Gainesville Visit - From: Visiting Granny in Gainesville
You forgot to add that we spent 3 hours in the ER at NEGMC on Friday night. You will never know how much I appreciated your visit. Scott and Laura came to see me on Tuesday. We went to Crepre's for lunch. They loved them too. He also installed my wireless keyboard and I think taught me how to burn my pictures on a CD. Have not had time to try it yet. Been busy moving clothes around and getting ready for the movers who are supposed to come Wednesday and switch my bedroom suits.
