Travel Blog Posts

2 weeks! It's been 2 weeks since I left to come to California. Ok, so it is more like a week and a half, but in this time I have realized that I didn't mention, on this TRAVEL blog, that I would taking a trip. Now I am here, relocated for an extended stay in California. Come to think of it, maybe I did mention that I would be comming here, but I pay so little attention to what I write that I am either declaring it for the first time or the 3rd. I left on a Wednesday morning, an early flight. I try to take early flights so that I get into the location of choice with time to mosey around, and because I never sleep before a flight, so I need the flight ... read more

I'm going to California in a week. By going I mean visiting, and moving. I am checking it out for an undetermined amount of time. Even in this bad economy, when California is bankrupt and has no jobs, I am going. It is a perfect time to see what I'm really made of. When I first came back to Syracuse I was expecting to stay for only a few months tops, and get the hell out, on to bigger and better things. Well, it's almost a year later. I didn't walk, jog, or run out of this place, and when I leave next week I won't even be skipping. That isn't to say I'm not excited to leave. I'm not going to be dragging my feet and missing my plane so that I can stay in ... read more

It is an overcast August morning in Upstate NY and, to me, there aren't too many things better than soft flannel sheets on my bed. If I am in Upstate NY in December I will be saying the same thing, and adding to the description of bedding quilts and comforters. This is my first full summer here in 5 or 6 years. Back to the place of my youth. (Although, in my head I am still a youth, the societal view is pushing me further into adulthood.) Perhaps flannel and summertime don't go together, but here, in a place that seldom reaches summer temperatures in the 80's, flannel is a lasting comfort. As an even younger person I used to day dream about a bed that could be driven, so that I could stay inside the ... read more

This past Saturday the Bank of America in my neighborhood was robbed, by a man with a knife. I don't know the details like how much money he managed to get away with, what he looked like or his age. I only heard snippets of the case. He was caught by police about an hour later. In this day and age is it even possible to rob a bank (if you aren't Bernie Madoff...who really was stealing from people more or less...digitally)? I mean get a brown paper bag full of cold hard cash, rubber banded stacks of $100 bills, and get away with it? Or is this crime now gone the way of fantasy? Who hasn't wanted to rob a bank? I used to think about it in high school all the time (during class ... read more

What constitutes as wasted time? Is it time spent doing something that you will feel guilty about later? I fell asleep today, for 2 hours. What was supposed to be a "resting of the eyes" turned into a full fledged slumber, complete with confusion upon waking. It was after work, after a bit of reading, after yoga class, and after a shower that I fell asleep, accidentally. In retrospect, it wasn't like I was missing out on responsibilities, I had completed a full days list of to-do's. But when I awoke, I was confused, and borderline upset with myself. I was able to reorient myself with where I was in the day, which had slipped undetected into late evening, but I haven't been able to shake the nagging feeling of wasted time. Was it because I ... read more

I hope that no one has subscribed to this blog. I can poke around and find out, as that is one of the features of "owning" this blog, but I am willing to bet that no one has. I hope that no one has because after my traveling bout my blogging has come to a stand still despite an entry that says otherwise. The entry right before this one actually, talking about how I am going to keep blogging in the spirit of what this specific blog was created for in the first place. Obviously, I didn't keep that wishful thinking in action....until now...3 months later. I suppose I haven't felt like there is anything important or exciting enough in my life right now to blog about. My life is seeming uneventful right now, but that ... read more

I have been thinking about this travel blog for a few weeks now, wondering if I should write a final wrap up of my trip, or just keep writing, despite the fact that I am no longer "traveling" per say. But in keeping true to what this whole travel blog is about in the first place, the idea that I am always traveling even when I am not, I might as well keep writing. I've been back in Syracuse for about 3 weeks now, or more, or less...who's counting? It's an easy transition. The US always seems to be an easy transition for me, probably because I am from here. I don't necessarily mean easy in a good sense through. It is almost too easy. ... read more

What can you accomplish in 4hours and 23minutes? You could probably drive from Syracuse to NYC, or you could definately prepare dinner and desert for a banquet, or you could watch 2 movies, or you could complete a marathon, which is what I did March 1st. While other people in Barcelona were asleep or just getting back from a long night of partying, myself and close to 10,000 other people from various different places in the world were all lining up in Plaça España to challenge our bodies and minds. Some had experience running marathons, some, like myself, were getting their first steps into the race, but everyone was there for their own reasons and one collective reason: to complete 26.2 miles, somehow. I had my trials and errors in the months leading up to this ... read more

Ireland loves it's sports. Football, Gaelic Football, Hureling, and of course Rugby. It just so happens that there is a big tournament going on called the 6 nations Rugby Championship involving Ireland, England, Scotland, Italy, France and Wales. I've had a bit of exposure to the game so when Ireland was playing France the family that I am staying with took me to their local pub to watch. We are out in the country, remember, so the pub was small but packed full of people. We walked through the door into a swarm of singing, cheering, chanting, screaming Irishmen. Story goes that this tournament is every 4 years and last time France beat Ireland, so everyone was seeking revenge. In an atmosphere like that how could I not get behind Ireland's team and watch with suspenceful ... read more
