After a sound nights sleep and our morning breakfast, ( I have got to get back to fruit & toast) we decided to try and see the London Eye before the McGinty’s had to leave for the airport. We managed just fine . Along with the Gaul’s we all enjoyed the spectacular view of the city. I even managed to contain my fear of heights, and just enjoy. Our last day ,and we all scattered to do the special things we wanted to do. The Faskerud’s went to Covent Garden , The Gaul’s were off to the Tower & Harrods, and Mike and I hopped a train to Hampton Court. It was a relaxing half hour out of town, and a very interesting tour. I was fascinated with the continual construction, and a bit disappointed that ... read more

Well it went from rain to storming sometime during the night. Mike and I decided to stay out of the rain and concentrate on getting packed and out of our tents on time. We had breakfast, managed to get packed and met everyone (except those diehards out on Safari), at the heritage lodge to hang out until our van came at 1:00 to take us to the airport. We relaxed, took some more pictures, and managed to squeeze in one more lunch before we left. The ride to Richards Bay seemed longer this time(probably because I was not napping), and it rained the whole way. We checked in at he airport and was told or flight may be rerouted or held up because of the weather. We were a little nervous because we did not want ... read more

October 2nd 2006

Our day started with some clouds and a quick breakfast before we scattered for the morning. Mike, Butch, Ted, & Karol went with Pen on a 2 hour hiking Safari. The rest of us divided between a jeep trip and just relaxing at camp. I returned to the tent to a cup of tea and my laptop to catch up on my journals. It was a very relaxing morning, listening to the wind from the tent. The weather seems to be shifting from the extreme heat, and I can not say I’m sorry. Even the rain is refreshing. After all returned and we had lunch, we were driven back to our little shopping center for a last chance at bringing home any Zulu treasures. I think we all did a fine job. Pen drove some of ... read more

We were up & in our Safari jeeps by 5:15,and headed to Hluhluwe national park. The reserve opened at 6:00 and we had a freezing 35 minute ride in a open jeep. The sunrise was beautiful. Hluhluwe is a much larger preserve with elephants and cats in it. We saw some beautiful views in the park from the lookout. There were herds of elephants wandering to the east. And then we saw zebras, more nyalas, and more and more elephants. We spent about 3 hours searching for the elusive lion pride that was spotted here yesterday. We stopped a picnic area in the park, and had our huge lunches that were packed for us. Two sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, cheese, sausage, muffins, nuts, a chocolate bar, and juice. And then there was the cooler full of soda, ... read more

Day 18 and I’ll have to say I’m getting a bit homesick . I find myself counting the days until we return. It will be very busy the next few days, so there will not be any time to think about it. Today was a great time for all I think. Instead of a Safari we loaded up our luggage, dropped it off at the “tent camp”, and were off for St. Lucia. We stopped and did some shopping at a little cultural center. Beautiful baskets, carvings, etc. We went to St. Lucia, ordered lunch, and went to the Indian Ocean(for some sandblasting, akin to microdermabrasion on our legs & arms.) Despite the wind, it was a beautiful fine sanded beach, and we enjoyed watching the wind surfers, and walking in the surf. I have forgotten ... read more

Well another day, another Safari. We actually had a rather relaxing day after our morning Safari. We just hung around the pool, and each others rooms. We downloaded pictures (The Flaskaruds have an amazing camera) and exchanged pictures, experiences, etc. Once again we had a problem getting on line. We have not been able to download since we left London. We have experienced a bit of a problem getting extra tours scheduled. We think it just a cultural thing. Talk about laid back.. Not that we are complaining. It has been a wonderful day, just doing a lot of nothing, in this beautiful warm landscape. Oh yes, it is very warm in the afternoons ,(80's & 90's) but really is cool in the mornings and evenings. What we can’t figure out is how our cameras get ... read more

Another Day in Paradise. Breakfast, Safari, Lunch, Safari, Cocktails, Dinner, and to bed.. Now this is really what I call vacation. On our afternoon safari, we went into the middle of a herd of Water Buffalos. It was a little spooky. I fell in love with a baby bull. He didn’t seem to be afraid of us, (just like a kid) and he was a bull. Sooooo cute He was going to hold his ground no matter what. We are having a wonderful time with all of our old friends & our new ones. Good- Night all ! ... read more

Well , the time has finally come to prepare for Africa. We are reorganizing our luggage, preparing for airline travel again. Everyone is off doing some last minute sight seeing in London. After breakfast Mike & I decided to take advantage of free hook-up at the hotel, and try to publish Some journals. We managed to send off 7 days, but it took all of our time left in London to do it. I think the blogs are a wonderful thing, but find it cuts into some of our tourist time. We will continue to journal, but may not take the time to publish until we get home. We will see how it goes. We all caught a van to Heathrow at about 2:30. ( as that was when the van was available) Our flight was ... read more

I was slow to rise, this morning . Mike and Butch were up gone by 7:00 . I caught up on all my blogs, but have been very frustrated trying to find the time and a place to log in and publish them. I have not been successful since we left Edinburgh. Tried Starbucks today by their server was down. Will try again in the morning after breakfast. We spent the day in London just reconnecting with everyone and wandering the streets. The McGinty’s arrived, and we finally found the Thomases at the Hilton. No wonder I could not find the at the Marriott last night. We met for lunch, and then took the tube to the Hilton to hook up with Ted. On our way we walked by a Starbucks, looked into the window and ... read more
