Well folks it has been a little while since I have sent an update on my travels. There are a few reasons for this, one; the internet places are few and far between and second I have not been real interested in sitting in front of a computer. This usually happens to me after a few months away, I get tired and just spend a few days sitting back and watching the world go by. No photos and no internet. So here is a short synopsis of what has happened since my lat update. Finished travelling along the Tibetan plateau and am now heading east towards Xi'an and the Tera Cotta warriers. Spent one night camping along a massive lake and got to ride a local tibetan man's mtorcycle. That was pretty cool. Got a few ... read more

As most of you following this blog know, I am not what is sometimes called a "Sheeple". That is I do not follow the usual trends nor do I watch the latest show on tv just because it is popular. Well that extends to my holidays as well. I refuse to use the Lonely Planet guides and almost always venture out on my own and find some hidden treasure that is not in any books. Well today I broke with the norm and had a great experiance. I woke up early and decided to go for a walk. It was about 7:30 so I didn't think I needed my camera, I was just gonna find a little hole in the wall cafe and have breakfast. It turns out thier was loads of people (locals) on the ... read more

Ok,this is the second time I am writing this entry。 Not sure what happened to the first one but it is gone。 For this entry I will fill you in on the trip from Nepal into China (Tibet) and the side trip to Mt Everest basecamp。 I am currently in a town halfway between Mt Everest and Lhasa。 Sorry I do not have my map handy and do not remember the name。 About 10 days ago met the new group I am travelling with along with the new crew。 They all seemed nice and I can confirm they are now that we have been travelling together for 10 days。It‘s an even mix of women and men, some couples some older than me and som younger。Seven different nationalities so the accents are pretty confusing at times。 We ... read more

Hey there sports fans how goes is it in the rest of the world ? This is a bonus update to my regular travel blog. I thought I would share with you the adventure I had today when I wanted to something as simple as go to the movies. As some of you know I not only believe life is one big adventure but I also believe it is made up of lots of little ones. It all started when I noticed in the paper that Iron Ma 2 is playing in the local theaters here in Kathmandu. I decided I would go and see what a foreign theatre looked like. So after breakfast I started to plan my litte excursion. I started by taking my local map and the newspaper advertising the movies to the ... read more

Hey gang, I am now in Kathmandu doing a little shopping and resting up for the next stage of my trip. For this entry I will catch you up on the week we spent in North East India in an area called Sikkem. This where Darjeeling is and is the foothills to the Himilayas. After the stike and near riot we travelled up into the hills over 6,000 feet in one day to the town of Darjeeling. This is am amazing place built on one side of a valley. All the buildings are perched on 60 - 70 degree slopes and there are tea plantations everywhere. The weather cooled off pretty quick so I felt right at home with it being 20 degrees instead of 40. We had one day off to explore the town and ... read more

Anyways, this entry will deal with the strike and near riot we were involved in. The ful story. We were travelling to a town called Siliguri in North East India on what we new was going to be a national day of striking. We wee unsure if we would stopped as we are only tourists. The day started out great with no traffic on th road and everytime we came to a village we just explianed that we were tourists and the people moved ... read more

Hey there, finally found an internet cafe that looks like it will have power. Can you imagine living in a country where the government just shuts off the power whenever it wants to? Well that is what happens in India. It can happen at any time of day or night and can last from half an hour to several hours. Crazy. Anyways, I left off leaving the tribal region of Orissa and we went into a own called Puri. It is on the coast or the Bay of Bangal. Crazy town. No real large stores just hundreds of little stalls selling everything including the kitchen sink. Had a few days off to explore so put on several km's. Tempature was down to mid 30's so was not too hot. Got a few good photos and learned ... read more

We interupt this regular blog entry with some urgent news from the northern state of Western Bengal. Our truck was stopped at a road block as part of a national strike yestarday and one of the windows was smashed out. This led to a flurry of activity and eventually the press arrived. See the attachment or search Indian newspapers for details on tourists stranded in Siliguri. Note that not all tourists are Austraulian and all of us are ok. I will send more details as soon as possible but this internet cafe keeps crashing so must keep it short. Special note, please thank Dave Morgan for me as I was nominated to speak to the media after mentioning my extensive training. LOL Must learn to keep my mouth shut. As you can see I am now ... read more

Well folks I survived four days in the tribal region of the state of Orissa in Eastern India. Since my last update we hired a local guide and a cook to travel with us for five days. Four of those days we spent visiting several villages in the tribal region of Orissa. Orissa is one of 27 states in India and is located just south of Calcutta along the east coast. The names of the villages are not on any map as they are very isolated and have little contact with the outside world. It was great to have a local guide along to inturpret (sp) for us and educate everyone about the differences between the tribes. It is amazing that two tribes can exist within 10 miles of one another yet neither speaks the same ... read more

Good day everyone, I am now officialy in full on holiday mode. I do not know the date or exactly where I am. We left Chennai a few days ago and have been making ourway north (ish). For this update I thought I would give you a breakdonw on the group dynamics so far. Group leader is and English fellow named Nick who looks like ke would be at home on a pirate ship. The second member of the crew is another Englishman named simply Bob. He is the driver and he too would look good on the deck of a pirate ship. There are 12 passengers, 1 Canadian(me), 1 American, 1 Nambian and then a few aussies and english. With such a smal group there is lots of space on the truck so that is ... read more
