So it's been almost two weeks. My bad. Don't worry, nothing bad happened, I just never got back to a computer. I left Ndola last Friday (6/27) for Garneton after our last program in Kitwe. The program ended well with many people receiving certificates and hopefully a better grasp on how to work with children with speech difficulties (as well as other special needs). I was given my first chitenge (sp?) by the "students" as a thank you. From there I went straight to Garneton, home of some American friars you may have heard of: Fr. Juniper Cummings and Bro. Tony [View Full Entry]

'Cause I can Africa » Zambia » Copperbelt » Ndola
I'm writing from Ndola, despite the lack of a region listed. I've been here since Saturday afternoon and am currently staying at the Franciscan Centre. Evidently, this place is a hot spot because I continually see people in and out of here all day long. I think it helps that it hosts Mission Press, something I'm hoping to learn more about here in about an hour or so. I would have gone this morning, but I had the headache from Hades. I think it was a mixture of the fumes from last night (story to come) and the insanely bright sunshine. [View Full Entry]

Quick little update Africa » Zambia » Lusaka
I have about 15 minutes before leaving for the next site which evidently does not have the best internet, nor trusty electricity. Over the past few days I have been battling something, I have no idea, I've just been a little sick and haven't been sleeping well. Today looks like a good day after a good night's sleep (thank God for Simply Sleep). But through all of that I have been able to visit a local school - other than where the site was - that is made for orphans and "vulnerable' children. The school was amazing with its own small [View Full Entry]

I'm still alive despite not having posted in a little less than a week. Where we have been staying does not have good internet which yielded no posts. Tonight we moved into our home for the week at Kalundu where Sr. Scholastica is taking excellent care of us. (This idea of losing weight in Africa is not going to happen while I am here.) Let me see if I can go through the week and relay what has gone on so far. Thursday afternoon: After writing on here I went to Hidden Voice to paint with Seth and Banks (Vanderbilt). I [View Full Entry]

Success! Africa » Zambia » Lusaka
I made it! I got in last night just before 9:00 pm (around 3 EST). It was the longest flight known to man. I stayed on one plane for about 20 hours. We stopped to drop off and add some people in Dakar, which is on the west coast in Senegal. I've never been claustrophobic in my life, but I think I was getting insanely close. It also didn't help that I was stuck next to two (one before and one after Dakar) people who never got up to go to the bathroom or walk around. I don't know if they [View Full Entry]

I leave next Wednesday for Zambia and just wanted to write an initial blog to send emails to those who had linked up to this last fall. I leave on Wednesday and will get there Thursday night (Thursday afternoon here). I look forward to a great trip and to filling this blog with some great stories, and hopefully pictures, too. Talk with all of you soon! [View Full Entry]

More tales from Estonia Europe » Estonia » Tartu
Nothing major has occured over the past few days. The whole flat (with the exception of one neighbor) has kept it pretty low key. Cassie and I have successfully made two dishes as well as making Anya her first PB&J. She said she liked it, but that it was a little sweet for her taste. All is well, though, she said she would eat it again. Last night we made our own version of stroganoff (sp?). We had ground beef and noodles and then made our own sauce which consisted of parmesan cheese, cream, and pepper. It actually turned out a [View Full Entry]

Classes! Europe » Estonia » Tartu
Classes officially started for me this week! I put an exclamation point because being bored in Estonia is as bored as you can get. Classes at least give you something to do for a couple hours as well as something to talk about and dread. Dreading classes is more entertaining than doing nothing, I promise. The first of the week was "History of the EU and Intgegration Theories" which I think I should be able to handle. This was just the introduction day, so not a lot happened and I don't really know what it's going to be like until the [View Full Entry]

I have pictures! Europe » Estonia » Tartu
Today was not a bad day. Nothing too adventuresome (sp?) happened. Cassie and I went to the main square for pictures today and received a pleasent little surprise. The whole square was turned into a market. They had everything you would need there. There was everything from fruits and vegetables to hats and scarves to even large rabbits. Cassie and I hoped that they were for pets and not for eating, but let's be honest. . . We picked up a rug for the room, Lord knows it needs some form of color in here besides our bedding. When we came [View Full Entry]

Today started off well. Now that we have internet, that means I now have Skype. So, I thought I would try it out with my phone card that Sarah got me (I'm glad it finally came in handy). I called Mom and Dad this morning when I knew they would be awake, because they're nuts and wake up at 5:30. ; ) Mom answered because for some reason she knew it had to be me. It was great to hear their voices! Not going to lie, cried like a little baby. Whatever, I'm thousands of miles away. Do the same thing, [View Full Entry]
