| 18th December 2008 Roberta | Callin me Home - From: bonnie in scotland Reading the tales of Scotland takes me back to my childhood, a grandfather who never lost his Scottich Accent. Being referred to as "wee", and nobody refers to me as "wee" anymore. I hear the pipes playing in my head and being told I couldn't listen to Harry Lauder's music because my Grama thought it was too off couor for a child. "THe mucking of Jordie's byre" translated as shovelling out of the cow shed. Too off color...go figure!!!! YOu make me know that I will go someday! Lokking forward to seeing you soon. Roberta |
| 16th December 2008 C Newberry | Good story - From: bonnie in scotland I enjoyed your travel blog & photos- very funny Meg-. It was nice to see you youngsters having such fun. I wish you all a good Christmas holiday when you get back home. Next trip come up to Montreal & bring mom Sue too. Love Aunt Carole |
| 15th December 2008 MOM--Sue | Bonnie, bonnie babes - From: bonnie in scotland When I called your Holiday Inn Express last night and heard the Scottish brogue, I could feel my own come alive. I think it must be passed down thru the genes because my mother, Winifred Malloy, came to Canada when she was just a wee bonnie lass. But after years of listening to the elders of the family, it is really neat to hear something that resonates in your heart. It is like you are home again. So, I told you I should have been there to translate. I "get" it. I miss you both and look forward to seeing you later this week. And sharing more stories and pictures. |
| 14th December 2008 MOM RAMORE | - From: Long car rides and Hamish HI, LOVE THE NEW PICTURES, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ON FRIDAY, LOVE MOM |

| 13th December 2008 MOM--Sue | Back to our roots - From: Long car rides and Hamish Chris' maternal grandmother was from Lochgelly in Scotland...so he made the trip there for me. He says there are very few Malloys there and Conway seems to be a name like Smith here. While a picture is worth a 1000 words, we still enjoy all the Meggy-blogs or Chrissy-blogs...so we all await further words. Love ya!! |
| 8th December 2008 MOM--Sue | Get a bed somewhere!! - From: time for some holidayin' OK, I do believe in "free"...but when it means you can't sleep properly, then you can't adventure properly...so if one of you has to rent a bed elsewhere, do so!! Not worth spending these last 2 weeks of your holiday tired and sore...of course, this is the old decrepit mother speaking. Glad to know we are connected again. Love ya!! MOM |
| 8th December 2008 Roberta | you're in my homeland - From: time for some holidayin' HI Guys. My grandfather emigrated from Edinburgh and it is the one place I"ll see in my life. He never lsot his scottish accent and I was always the "wee baron". I'll be interested to get site seeing info from you at New Years. You should be knee deep in scottish short bread, empire cookies and apple charlottes at this time of the year. He was a baker so I'm up scottish Christmas treats and so is my current pant size. Enjoy and we'll be seeing you soon. Roberta |
| 8th December 2008 MOM--Sue | You are still alive? - From: Pictures from London So how come now that you are in an English speaking country, we haven't heard from you...several times everyday I check my email to see if you have posted any more news. So I am really glad to see these newest pics because it must mean you are OK. Oh, Chris, I knew Stonehenge would be good...the pics are great, now tell us about it. Starting to really miss you!! Love ya! |
| 4th December 2008 Carole Newberry | Cheerio Chris & Megl - From: "Tis but a flesh wound" Well we ourselves just got back to Montreal from California. We were last in London a few yrs ago & aways find something interesting to do there. If you get to Lochgelly,Scotland try to visit the museum & see if they have any record of the "Muldoon Twisters" band. Chris' gr grandpa John Malloy & bro Patrick were members circa 1910. |

| 3rd December 2008 MOM--Sue | So go to hear from you - From: merci beacoup monsieur trolley I can hardly believe you are at least a whole ocean away when our modern times allow us to converse so easily on the phone. I had a better line with you than I did earlier in the day with a guy just south of Sault MI. I still have time to pack and pick Bobby up on the way to the airport if you need 2 older ladies to help you get around Scotland. I know Bobby might not drive but I would be game, Meg!! Glad to know you are safe and sound...and now can converse with all the natives and read the menus again...even if you did end up in an Indian restaurant 2 days in a row. What about fish and chips or bangers and mash? Not vegan fare but Chris you could give it a try. Love ya!! |

| 1st December 2008 Dad | The tour - From: Da LOOOOOOV-VER Hi Guys Thanks for the great written and pictoral tour. The Louvre looks very cool. | 1st December 2008 Bobby Haworth | your poor feet. - From: Da LOOOOOOV-VER Hi Meg and Chris, I'm Bobby a friend of Mom Sue's and I'm glad your having such a great time but by the time you get to England and Scotland you will definitely be too tired to carry your own bags and since there are two of you I would be glad to escort Mom Sue over and help carry those bags. I already have my passport just say the word and MOM's on a Mission will arrive. LOL Enjoy your trip, I've enjoyed reading about it. Bobby |
| 1st December 2008 MOM--Sue | Once again I tell you... - From: Da LOOOOOOV-VER ...I could have come and carried your bags. I am so very jealous. I think that while Meg may have had a previous life in Italy, yours was in France, Chris. You just seem so comfortable with the language and the art. And can you believe it that here at 10 pm in Sault Ste. Marie and feeling lonely, the only one of "my kids" I could talk to was Meg in France. I was determined to reach out and talk to someone and it was really quite easy...so glad that there was someone at the hostel who picked up the phone this time. So if you need me to come to Scotland and help out in any way, just say the word...I will be there. Love ya!! |
| 1st December 2008 Jannette and David Mitchell | we took a picture of Mona Lisa - From: Da LOOOOOOV-VER Dear Meg and Chris, when we were there many moons ago we took a picture of the Mona Lisa but we could not use a flash. | 28th November 2008 MOM--Sue | Oh, I am so, so jealous?? - From: maybe peeeeeek-chas So when do I get a chance to go to Europe with you? I am oh so jealous of your youth, your health, your adventure!! These pics are the best. But they make me want to be there. I can see a few that will adorn my walls for sure. Missed your call at about noon here, I think. Must be dinner time for you at Arc de Triomphe. And in case it isn't in your guide books here is what it is all about. Will you follow the L'Axe historique?? ............The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris, France that stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, also known as the Place de l'Étoile. It is at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. The triumphal arch honors those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and the top of the arc there are all of the names of generals and wars fought. Underneath is the tomb of the unknown soldier from World War I. The Arc is the linchpin of the historic axis (L'Axe historique) — a sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route which goes from the courtyard of the Louvre Palace to the outskirts of Paris. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806, and its iconographic program pitted heroically nude French youths against bearded Germanic warriors in chain mail and set the tone for public monuments, with triumphant nationalistic messages, until World War I. The monument stands 49.5 metres (162 ft) in height, 45 metres (148 ft) wide and 22 meters (72 ft) deep. It is the second largest triumphal arch in existence. Its design was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus. The Arc de Triomphe is so colossal that three weeks after the Paris victory parade in 1919, marking the end of hostilities in World War I, Charles Godefroy flew his Nieuport biplane through it, with the event captured in a newsreel. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumphal_arch for info re other triumphal arches, including 4 in Canada. |
