Where to start? We're the local entertainment in our dorm/compound. We did laundry outside yesterday and today. Always get big crowds with that as we put on as little clothing as possible and get ourselves completely soaked while the women squat in their full saris and don't seem to get a drop on them. We wash them outside in the main tiled courtyard on the ground under the water spouts. The women watched, laughed, and finally one woman came up and took our laundry away (the stuff we'd already cleaned and were getting ready to rinse) and washed them for us - again - showing us the right way, beating it on the ground. In Amritsar. Didn't sleep much last night, took off at 6:00am to get to the train station this morning. Long ass ride with screaming children. Agriculture. Rice. Fruit trees. Jilns for bricks. Corn. Strange haystacks. But we finally arrived. The only non-indian tourists we could see, accosted by drivers. Eventually made it to the info center - notsohelpful. Aot an autorickshaw to the Temple. Found the info center. Again, notsomuch very helpful. Went to go find lodging. Are staying in the free open beds at the Temple. Ate lunch at the langar with free dal and bread. We're such a rare sight - reminds me of China. Walking around inside the Temple boys come up and shake our hands and ask to have pictures taken with us. So we were sitting at one of the rooftop restaurants eating dinner last night, taking in the MASSIVE Delhi bazaar from 5 stories up, drinking our strawberry lassis (yogurt shake) and suddenly, out from behind the sketchy counter, blasts ENRIQUE! And I thought, omigod, Laura Beth. We left Angel's house yesterday, came to the center of backpacker heaven in a district of Delhi called Paharganj where the streets are full of cows, bicycle rickshaws, autorickshaws that honk their horns every 5 meters, more discount goods and conmen than i've ever been surrounded with, cheap hotels, cheaper restaurants, dust, dirt, noise, bags, saris, pants, watches, cameras, ANYTHING. Currently Watching Kal Ho Na Ho DVD 2004 By Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta Sooo.... We're here! Angel's internet hasn't been working but we hooked up the ol' laptop and voila! el interwebo! It's like 3:00am or something ridiculous at home, but it's a little after 1:00 in the afternoon on Monday here. We're about 9.5 hours ahead on this side of the world. Arrived safely after a long flight on Friday night. Angel and her dad picked us up at the airport - we got special treatment b/c her dad works there. Ha! Everyone looked pretty confused when they took us out of the normal line. Have slept here 3 nights and are finally getting over the jetlag. mbaade visa update: I GOT IT! We went to NYC today. Took the 7:25 train to Philly, met abeyta, got bfast, caught the 8:30 Chinatown bus, made it to the consulate by 11:00ish. Finally got through the massive wait line and dropped it off around 2:00ish. Central park for a bit. Listened to a guy playing the sax for quite a while and then went to take a nap in the sun. Woke up at 4:30, just in time to go get my finished visa. Got it. Subway back to Chinatown. Caught the 6:00 bus back to Philly, had dinner in Chinatown, brought the 8:40 SEPTA to BMC, went to Eckard and Starbucks and back out to Brecon to pack and do laundry and whatnot. mbaade's visa update: Called the embassy. They say they never received any money. The mailroom had none, so they returned my paperwork. I, of course, know this cannot be true because I put the money order in the envelope myself and I watched the postal employee seal it. So whatever, Indian embassy not helpful. Went to the post office to see if they could tell me whether or not the money order had been cashed so I could see if for some reason it really did not arrive or if it was stolen. But I have to put in a request to see, it costs 3 bucks, and it takes a week. Buddy, I'm leaving in a week! But whatever, put in the request. If it was not cashed then I get a full refund. Oh joy. Frst big hiccup of the summer plans. AA and I went to check our mail tonight. I had a priority package in my box from the consular, AA had a note for an express mail. I thought it was odd that mine was priority since i paid for express.... yeah. Visa app returned, not processed. says there was no money. Which is funny since I have all of the receipts from the money order and my account is now minus $79 that is missing. Gah. Going to call in the morning. AA also needs to check her mail and see if hers was processed. Great. ... read more

Your map description: In high school, I went on the Europe trip with both my French and my Spanish teachers. England, France, Switzerland with the French trip, and Spain with the ... you guessed it, Spanish teacher. Then I taught English in China after my freshman year of college. Junior year we played in a rugby tournament in the Bahamas over spring break. AA and I had an amazing opportunity to go backpacking in India for the summer of '05 after graduating from Bryn Mawr. Then I moved to Beijing to teach English. And since returning I've taken two trips to Mexico with AA and her family. I was in Beijing the summer of the 2008 Olympics when the Peace Corps called and offered me a post in Nicaragua. I was in Nicaragua for almost three years as an Agriculture Extensionist. I married a Nicaraguan in a beautiful cross cultural wedding. Now we are back in the USofA and figuring out how to get to our next adventures!
