It was niceto see people really smile! - From: obamanos! and his speech that is making me cry
My wife and I own Playa Roca Beach Hotel in Las Penitas 13 miles west of Leon on the Pacific Ocean, see playaroca.com., and I left back to California last month to try and tie up loose ends in the US. I got to see the inaguration yesterday, and am so happy for a change to say, I too, am glad to be an American. Without hope there is dispare, and I have hope for the US, Nicaragua, and the world today that hasn't existed for a long time. David

Changes are here - From: obamanos! and his speech that is making me cry
As a proof to the world that the changes are for real in America I believe that someone should initiate legal action against former president George W. Bush. for all the lives lost in the middle east. That is my opinion and I think that would be a great message of prosperity.

yes, life & death, here and there - From: life and death in nicaragua: of snakes, chagas beetles, and a community death
Yeah, I'd be interested in hearing more on the 'local' customs regarding death. Even here on Spencer Creek, customs and beliefs vary so much. Huh!...even in one family! You've done much more extensive reading on the subject than any one other person I know, that I figure you to be my guru! Eh?? ;) NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO TAKE OFFENSE TO THE ABOVE STATEMENT! me

Molly, I don't know how, but.... - From: life and death in nicaragua: of snakes, chagas beetles, and a community death
every now and then I just totally MISS one of your blog entries. I was just rereading some of your previous thoughts when I came across Jan. 8th. MOLLY! I have been far too out-of-touch as of late with Granddad down here and all. I had not seen this one. You were having a severely "down" day and, had I known or seen or been here for you, I would have phoned as soon as I'd read your entry. I am sorry. Love you miss you. Loved YOUR surprise call at the P.O.!!!! XOXOXO

ohmymollymollymollymolly. I know that you never liked Cat Stevens' song, "Wild World", but I do hum it to you lots, even though I know that you can't hear me. Of course, it truly wasn't 'about' snakes and beetles and mosquitos, I know, but STILL..... May I, at the very least, send you some OFF! ? Love you.

Happy 2009 to ALL of Us! - From: of beaches, home improvements, and errands
It's so good to hear that you're enjoying the beginning of a brand new year! Why zinc? We use just 'metal' for roofs & even homes here in the Ozarks. Just wondering? Find out more...prices,sizes of sheets, your roof dimensions, transport, etc. Will $ee if we might pitch in $ome, ok? (REALLY wish we could BRING you your supplies! ha!). 40#!!!! Impressive! *I* could use a coupla months in your neighborhood! Love you!

Too bad you couldn't share some fruitcake with us. - From: alphabetized life
I had no idea you were nearby. I spent navidades with my comadre in San Lucas. Lots of boxes of American Candy, even a Costco Fruitcake. Well I remember the same feelings as a young PCV in the early 70s. So much has changed, yet much has not. YOu will have similar sentiments when you come back stateside. I sure miss the tortillas and eating dinner in the kitchen. And having people bringing up remembrances of me that I suspect may be fabricated. stick it out. It's worth it.

Chips - From: alphabetized life
Nice to know you had a good Christmas and an awesome time at the beach for New Years. Here where I live in MI is freezing cool so I am kind of celoso. By the way the word for straw in Nicaragua I believe is Pajilla I think in Mexico is Popote so it confuses me sometimes. And the Chips are called Sun Chips and they are these yumm curly oven baked corn chips (my favorites) and yeah food is in my mind too :) Feliz 2009 to you Adios

Sounds to me like you are becoming a Nicaraguence which is good, Nicaraguences are known as Chochos by other countries from the region (Hondureans = Catrachos, Guatemaleans = Chapines, El Salvadoreans = Guanacos, and so on). Anyway I am sure you can find Qtips in a Farmacia they call them Isopos and the farmacy should have abate too but even better you can put little fishes in la pila to do the job :). Feliz Navidad to you.

All else will fall into place with the onset of even a small-sized goal to overtake and accomplish, right? LOVE the pictures. christmas in nica - From: god has it only been 4 days in site since thankgiving? time moves so sloooowwwwwly here
ben - yes, they celebrate christmas here. and my family has a tree and lights on the house, but it´s not the same as at home, which is what i mean by ¨if i can´t celebrate...¨ because it´s hard being abroad for the holidays. and i would LOVE to bake a pie, if only anyone in my community had an oven.... and of course i don´t mind that you read and comment - if i didn´t want it public it wouldn´t be on a blog, verdad?

Christmas - From: god has it only been 4 days in site since thankgiving? time moves so sloooowwwwwly here
I thought the only Latin American group that does not believe in christmas are those in the Jehovah's Witnesses religion (They are called Testigos de Jehova). So if your host family is Catholic then they for sure believe in Christmas, However economical condition might be the reason why they dont to ornaments and stuff in their house. You know Cristmas is a very expensive time of the year here in USA and even worst in Nicaragua. This could be an good opportunity for you to have a cultural exchange with them by showing them a little of your christmas something simple like putting up a little christmas tree in the house or maybe baking a pie for them. They would appreciate that. Anything you do just try to enjoy it as much as you can. Happy holidays, hopefully you dont mind me reading your blogs and leaving you notes :)
