November 26th 2011

So the 18th November was Independence day in Morocco. Meaning yet another day off :D I decided to go to Marrakech for the weekend along with a few of the Americans! Again the night before on the Thursday the leeds girls and Zac had drinks at mine so I only had about 2 hours sleep before the "7" hour train ride! Zac didnt sleep! After Zac finally got ready we left at 6.30 to catch the 6.50 train. Luckily the station wasnt busy and we had no trouble getting a ticket and finding a seat on the train! The journey started fine we left on time and everything was great. However 3 hours in to the journey we broke down... 2 .5 hours later the train was fixed! We were speaking to somebody on the train ... read more

So as a little treat Dorothy and I decided to go to Italy for the week! So after deciding to meet at 7.30 on Saturday morning everything looked set...8am I decide to wake up in the Medina after drinking the night before... I rushed back to my apartment got the rest of my things together then realised that I'd left my camera at the Medina! Luckily somebody was able to bring it to me which was great. So anyway Dorothy ended up over sleeping too and we finally met about 9am. However we didn't have a clue where to get a taxi from so we ended up getting one from our school at a cost of 200 dirhams! But we were in a rush to get to the airport as we thought we would miss our ... read more

October 2nd 2011

So Friday I went to Asilah! Kerry and I decided to go first class as we still didnt feel too well and couldnt be doing with the hussel and bussel! First class was good! Aircon all the way and a large seat for the 4 hour train journey. The journey wasnt too bad at all and we arrived in Asilah around 5ish. We decided to stay at hotel Belle Vue. Although there was no Belle vue! The rooms were beautifully decorated but the factilites were slightly poor to say the least! The first night there was a wedding ceremony around the town. There was a horse and a sort of box on top which contained the bride. The whole town seemed to party and celebrate! It was excellent to see and something different to experience. The ... read more

So its the end of week 3. This week has been a roller coaster! My parents finally flew back to the UK so I could finally talk to them about everything that has gone on and gain some support! My friend Ahmed came to stay with me on Monday until Thursday. We had such a great time. We went walking around the medina and another friend bought a drum (it has a special name but I forgot!) and we ate at the famous café clock. Although I had the moroccan Tapas and it wasnt too good! Tuesday evening we went into the Medina and had a few drinks with my canadian friends and the leeds girls joined us. At midnight we decided to go to a Moroccan bar. We turned up at 12.45 and it closed ... read more

September 25th 2011

Well Ive now been here just over 2 weeks and I'm pooped. (As the americans and canadians would say! I'm tired in other words!) A lot has gone on since my last post. I've moved apartments and now paid for an extension of my language course! Last Sunday I went on a trip with ALIF to Mekenes, Moulay Idriss and Volubulis. It was excellent to visit another city and to experience how different people used to live it was an excellent day. Except for the phone call I received. I had the "quiz" on Monday and got 12.5 /15 which Im really pleased with although I do feel slightly cheated as one teacher says one thing and the other says another but I guess languages are up for discussion! Wednesday I moved into my new apartment ... read more

September 17th 2011

So I've just spent my first week in Morocco! I can't actually believe its only been a week but looking back its gone fast in one way but slow in others. Well I started my language course on Monday which I was a little nervous about but it is AMAZING! I cannot believe how good the course is. The level of teaching is amazing. Although it is expensive you get what you pay for, right?! The building is a sort of villa style with a courtyard which serves food. The organisation organises extra curricular stuff like caligraphy lessons, cooking lessons etc. So there was another guy in my class but he has moved up as class as he found it too easy. I'm doing MSA 200 which translates to lower intemediate just one level up from ... read more
