Maceio 11th December - 13th December Maceio´s greatest gifts are the beach fronts of Ponta verde and Pajucara, where jade-coloured water laps beaches lined with palms and brightly painted jangadas (traditional sailboats), and locals weave their evening walks between thatched-roof restaurants and futbol courts....sorry, stole that colourful description straight from Lonely planet. Maceio was beautiful. though not really a backpacker stop. very family orientated and laid back. beautiful beaches wherever you go. i loved taking a run along the shoreline and watching the sunsetting on [View Full Entry]

the name O Linda means how beautiful. apprantly the founder said 'o linda 'upon his first view over olinda..and thats where the name comes from!
4th December - 11th December Arriving in Beautiful Olinda was like stepping back in time. Having arrived late a night, i quickly checked into my hostel, and took a wander around. Street lamps light up the cobble stoned streets, reminding me of my travels in Prague in Czech republic. I stayed at Albergue De Olinda- colourfully filled hostel...and has a pool!!! woohoo! Olinda is beautiful. in striking contrast to its sister town of Recife (the commercial centre of the region). Apparently the name came about when one of the founders, satnding at a high viewpoint, whispered 'o Lin [View Full Entry]

28th November- 4th December Natal (meaning christmas in Portugese) is called the sun city for its golden beaches and sun. However like many brazilian beach cities, it has caved in to the populace need and erected edifices of tourism all along its shores. That said..i had a wicked time in Natal...mainly also because i partied my ass off in CARNATAL ( carnival in Natal) which just happened to coincide with my 27th BIRTHDAY!!! yeah...i was meant to be married and on my way to having kids by now! and being the only one of my siblings not married by the age [View Full Entry]

Canoa Qebrada 26th November- 27th November A quiet fishing village perched between white dunes and sienna ocean cliffs...postcard perfect! I came her expecting secluded and quiet town, but found another tourist trap. filled with pousadas, restaurants, and tourist shops. However, there was a reason for that...it was indeed beautiful. i took a run along the beach and was puffed out by the time i covered the whole territory of the multicoloured cliffs! at night, i descended down to the beach for your woo-hoo regular beach party at a reggae bar belting ou [View Full Entry]

never knew i was a fan!!! it was great!
20th november- 26th November Fortaleza, admittedly was probably once a very beautiful city. but huge skyscrapers and hotels now hover over the wide sandy beaches....so much so that after 4pm, you can´t help but be swimming in shadow as the sun moves behind the buildings...occasionally escaping through the dense buildings. That said...it has a killer nightlife! i came in search of what has been deemed 'the biggest monday night party in the world!!!' arriving at 11pm on monday, i checked in, got dressed and headed out. Pirata bar (pirate bar) with a ship attached! The vibe was [View Full Entry]

13th November- 20th November Jericocoara, nicknamed Jeri, is without a doubt one of god´s little gems of beauty.... Imagine this. a broad cream sandy beach, palm trees swaying above the beachside bars where you leisurly lay enjoying your caipirinha. turqouise blue waters (but arent they all in North Brazil!!!). and the mystical sand dunes rising from the left where all the sunset worshippers make a pilgrimage each day to witness the daily changing magnificence of the sun setting over the horizon! despite having seen so many sunsets along my trip, i still feel overwhelmed by each [View Full Entry]

10th november- 13th november We land to Barreirinhas, lounge in our hammocks in our pousada (name given to the accomodation here in north Brazil). it was located by the riverfront...ideal for my continued life as a lazy traveller! we headed out in the afternoon, in a dune buggy, traversing the sandy terrain, crossing rivers on bargos that are man powered (cant understand why they have realised the invention of motorised pulleys!). Finally descending down on the picturesque Parque Nacional Lençois Marrenhias. Imagine this....beautiful white sand, rolling impressions created by [View Full Entry]

7th november- 10th November The beautiful city of Sao Luis is blessed with the most feverish cultural presence of the upmost north of Brazil. Walking through the colonial city, you could see its facades covered with azulejos (portugese painted tiles). it had a timeless beauty. I stayed in a renovated old colonial building turned hostel, called Solar das Pedras. Sao Luis is known as the capital of reggae in Brazil, pronouned He-gáy. I found some new awesome reggae music, and i partied to reggae in the nearby bars. No doubt the city would have been amazin [View Full Entry]

26th October- 7th November I loved Manaus. not a beautiful city by any means. It is the largest city on the amazon, and used to a centre for industrial trade for the Portugese. Evidence of its european heritage clear through historic buildings, most evident by its famous opera house. I have never seen a structure that is made out of material that has been brough from so many different plaecs around the world!!! I stayed in Hostel Manaus, owned by an Australian, and far from actually being completed...so it was really cheap!!! the people had darker features. morenos. not black. adm [View Full Entry]
