Well finally left the carribean island of Utila. Enjoyed chilling at Rainbow Village in La Ceiba for a few days before flying to the Pacific coast of Panama. RV was a really nice place small, friendly, quiet and safe. Basically sat by the pool, read two books and drunk the odd cold beer ! Only met a few people there mainly couples except Gary and his French friend from Chigaco ( sorry can't remember her name) who were heading to Utila for some diving, including helping to teach disabled divers. No dogs following me here but I did have a 3 year old Margaret keep wanting me to for a swim and teach me the alphabet! Got to La Ceiba airport only to be told that the tower was not working so my flight cancelled. So ... read more

Last week here in Utila, 1 more sleep and I am leaving the island, Tuesday afternoon ferry then stay in La Ceiba for few days before heading off to Miami and eventually Panama. Yes i was up early enough to take a picture of the sunrise! So have a bit of travelling to do over the next week 4 flights in total. Helen and Tim are gonna meet me there for a few days before Helen heads to Costa Rica, Tim back to Utila and me off to Quito in Ecuador. Have really enjoyed Utila but as said before ready to move on now. Feels quite weird as though I am about to start my travels, must have been here too long! lol My mums birthday today, happy birthday mum, rang her on skype but difficult ... read more

Hi all hope all well. The weeks seem to be going quick while being a beach bum in Utila, reading in the sun, snorkling, kayaking etc saw a 3 foot wide ray swim under my kayak the other day, unfortunately no camera on me. Starting to go a little black now and blend in with the natives lol The island has become quieter again now Semana Santa over, prefer it quieter. Andy and Char gone on their travels plus Tim and Helen have gone to La Ceiba and then Guatemala, hoping to meet up with them in Panama City 25th to 27th. Heard someone talking in La Pirata and they said some dude got shot in Guatemala and there was a travel warning, think US travel warning. Had two leaving barbies at the station for the ... read more

Well now I have left the station for 2 weeks and with the volunteer work behind me I am truly now living on a Caribbean Island! Funny how when you been somewhere for a while you slip into patterns just like being at home, although obviously things are different. Not even really started proper traveling just yet, though not long until I do, imagine it is a balance of being somewhere long enough to feel the place but not too long that you slip into a routine and then time flashes by. So what’s different about living on a Caribbean Island? Well I still get up earlyish about nine at the latest make myself breakfast, usually Kellogg’s cornflakes and occasionally bacon and eggs, difference is I sit and eat breakfast on the porch with the sun ... read more

Well moved into my new "home" on Utila last Sunday. Did not go quite as smooth as I wanted! I ended up staying in La Pirata watching the Barcelona game and the Pompey highlights against Hull - play up pompey! So did not leave until about half past five. So by the time i got back to the station, packed and got a tik tuk taxi to Blue Bayou my landlady had gone out (said I would be there in the afternoon) so hung around on the porch until she came back. It had got dark and i had to usde my head torch while waiting in the hammock. Funny thing is when she turned up, around 10, she got the keys and then turned on a porch light from outside! doh! Diane has decking right ... read more

So whats happened this week? Well this week gone was my last week at the Iguana Station, been a bit like leaving a job, do less than you usually do but enough to keep yourself sane.lol Monday did feeding in the morning and managed to sneak off to La Pirata in the afternoon to watch the Pompey Liverpool game, shame to hear we have lost league points but hey better than losing them next year! We walked to Rock harbour through the mangroves again this week on Tuesday. Still no sign of pregnant female iguanas heading to the beach, may be the late wet weather we have been having. First wet season normally ends end of Feb. with April being driest but nearly end of March and we still have been having rain. Nice though to ... read more

Hard to believe been here for six weeks this weekend. Sometimes feels like I have been here forever though! Dave and Ann left this week so that’s my drinking buddy and La Pirata buddy gone! (pub that shows footy) Thanks to Ann had a course of antibiotics for my ear and some special ear drops but my ear still not perfect. Hope you two safe and at your next destination, safe travelling and may meet you in La Paz. Two more couples arrived this week (Charlotte & Andrew, Liz & Kevin) both seem cool and are hardened travelers, Char and Andy just came from Peru where they had torrential rain and landslides! Macha Pichu closed at the moment but should be reopened for when I get there. Helen arrived this week too so we now have ... read more

Hello all, Been a reasonably quiet week this week, been cloudy off and on which good as cooler especially at nights! Also means less feeding of the iguanas, which can take a hour or so and is hot work getting in and out of the cages. Mind you weekend was quite busy as we tried a new bar called La Pirata by the ferry dock, only 25 lims a beer and were showing Chelsea Man City game, went back there Sunday too to watch USA against Canada for Olypics Ice Hockey Gold, was packed obv with canadians and americans, we supported Canada.lol Two new arrivals this week, timothy from Watford and Sammi from manchester, picked both up from the ferry mon and tuesday, we took sammy to a few bars even though he was tired but ... read more

Been another busy week here in Utila and has been very hot other than a couple of days when a storm passed over us, did not rain but was very windy. This meant that 3 of the volunteers who were due to leave were stuck here as the ferry was not running. A new couple arrived this week, Dave and Ann from Liverpool (The Wirral) and the previous week Linus a 20 yr old German who is now my room mate. He speaks excellent English and walks around bare foot finding bugs and snakes! He had a tarantula in his hand this week, he brought a surfboard with him too, though I don’t think there is anywhere to surf due to the reef! We had finally completed the school house, looks pretty cool and so we ... read more
