Divemaster-Taganga - From: Diving the Caribbean is not as warm as you'd think!
Hi Chrissy! I have been reading your blog and others on Colombia to find out what I'm getting myself into. Thank-you for sharing this information, it's so much better than the guide books to read real experiences AND the pictures help too! Just wondering was your Divemaster a local or a foreigner? I'm a DM hoping to find work in this beach town, but I'm wondering if they hire foreign DM's. I know some places will only hire there own people. Thanks so much and keep having a safe/fun journey! Fellow diver, Jessica

Unbelievable! - From: Start spreading the news, we're leaving today...
My, that was some honeymoon! Congratulations, mark and chrissie........been following your honeymoon blogs. Must be the longest, adventure and fun-filled honeymoon I've heard of. To top it all, you ended your trip back in UK, TOGETHER. I bet you came out of this honeymoon as better persons, with honed sensibilities for each other's ups and downs, and outrightly more understanding of each other. Going by your blogs, I sensed that......plus more. You guys surely had fun!

memories - From: Rio Dulce - Does it Get any Better?
I remmebr a different Rio Dulce from my time there. I lived there for 6 months in a small hut behind a restaurant on the south shore of the river where the bridge is. It was 1974 and i was 9 years old. There was not a bridge then only a ferry boat to take people accross and the road was mostly dirt. They had a generator that gave power till 9pm and then you relied on candles for light. My dad was working there scouting out areas for the bridge. We used to set up a slide show somenights for the villagers and they loved it. Livingston also back then was onlhy accessable by a ride down the river in a dugout boat. They only had 3 cars in the town back then. Such memories. Such fun.

I spent 5 months living in an area of La Boca about halfway between Caminito and San Telmo antiques market. Antarctica - From: A Dinner Date at the End of the World
Hey there- Those last minute deals were a bit cheaper when I went in 2005. I had heard the same as you and it was a life long dream of mine to travel to Antarctica... it was $2000 US and I thought that was a fine price to pay for a 12 day trip to a place very few will ever go. What is $L4000 in US? Make sure it's not worth it just to put it on a card and worry about later.... there will never be a better or cheaper time to go...

espanglish - From: Practising our Spanish in Viña Del Mar
great blog. i've really enjoyed it. i love completos too. whenever avocados are on sale, i buy hot dogs and go to town. good luck learning the language. don't worry about not understanding chileans. you see, you're starting your stumblings into spanish in what is likely the most challenging country to learn it. even native speakers from other countries have a hard time understanding chileans. chilean spanish is a branch unto itself. though it shares certain features from neighboring countries, a unique combination of factors make chilean spanish quite unique and distinct from any other. conjugation is different for informal speech, vocabulary is different, but most of all, chilean slang is peppered with unique slang and idiomatic expressions which no one outside of chile understands. they even dub tv-series when they are sent to neighboring argentina, which is the closest thing to chilean spanish. anyway, if you can't keep up with chileans, don't feel bad. it'll get easier in peru and bolivia (argentina has its own non-standard archaic spanish). cheers!

Great to hear from you again. I hadn't received any mail for ages!!! You both look like you still really enjoying yourselves. Yes, we will be partied out!! On of her favourite pressies is her trampoline from her great grandparents- even when she's not on it she bounces and she now has a new fondness of cheese balls. we know why you have been off line for a while.....there was a recent article in the wrexham trumpet and clarion that a mr and mrs hayward were remanded in custody for camping on private land without permission.they were also interviewed regarding the mysterious dissapearance of several australian marsupials from colwyn bay mountain zoo and the theft of a 2nd hand 6 seater vehicle from rhyl town centre.several abergele residents have also reported the smell of barbecues in january to local police. by cunning calculation we have narrowed our search for you to cheap camping sites in the gower penninsular area ..beware ..the net is closing!!

Hi little son and daughter in law Sorry we missed both your attempts to phone us, we were away in Woolacombe for a few days, sod,s law. Glad to hear you are fine, we had a lovely few days in a static caravan with S and P having one next door. We shared the cooking and had some fantastic meals. The weather was great and we played golf 3 times. We beat the Aussies 12-10 and thoroughly deserved it yesterday so you can hold your head up high and taunt the Aussies when you get there. Also France beat the favourites New Zealand 20-18. Two fantastic quarter final games. Guess what though the semi is the night of H and D's big birthday bash!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do I do???? Also Glos smashed Leicester away 30-17 so I don't know what the atmosphere in your sister's house is like. all the best Lots of love Dad

Hey Smithy and marky mark! Can't believe you've been going for so long now! We are now down in Kho Tao after a mamoth train and boat ride. The island, all we've seen so far, is very tranquil. Plan on doing a bit of diving and chilling out in our very nice bungalow with private balcony. We leave here around the 13th to head back up to Bangkok then planning on going over to Cambodia. Are you off there next? What are you plans for the next couple of weeks? It would be really cool if we could manange to bump into each other! We might do the Vietnam trip but in reverse and on the train, any recommedations? Anyway my lover, let me know what you guys are up to! Kate xxx

Its Raining Here Too ... - From: The hardships of travelling
...If its any consolation!! Although here it is supposed to be summer.... !Buxton has stood up well to the rain (it is afterall fairly used to it), other parts of the country, including Sheffield just down the road, havent done so well and are under loads of water. Despite the rain we continue to try and enjoy life without you! Friday we were at Anna H's in Manchester to go to her Birthday Fancy Dress Party. Pete went as Ozzy Osbourne which well and truely freaked me. Saturday we were scouting out pubs for our 30th in a couple of weeks and then treid to go to Romeo and Juliet in the Pavillion Gardens, only to have it rained off and put into the Church instead. Sunday we dug up the first of our potoates on the allotment and then ate them!!!! Yum yum. Keep well you two. Tara for now. Catherine

hi - From: The hardships of travelling
Hi ya I am also jealous of all the new sights and surrounding you are experiencing and the moment! I have to say the crazy house looks great. Just the sort of things I would love to explore. Short update of us. Well, as side from avoiding the flooding and moving house to Ledbury we are all well. Tim started his first week at work and nearly quit by day 5, we're still waiting to see what Monday brings. Emily is well and still VERY active. I'm planning a water birth and people keep giving me funny looks for it. We are in Manchester for the weekend as we had uni friends wedding in Leeds yesterday, but I have had to avoid the trafford centre as they are on high alert because of all the car bombs and stuff over the last few days. One of my best friends, Nic, who I'm sure you will of met, is now 5 days over due and getting rather grumpy! Right I'll love you and leave you. Hope your both still well oh, Tim wants to know why Mark's belly is dissapearing when his is still growing! I keep telling him it must be a sympathy belly to join me. Ha, ha love Amy and Tim P.S. yOUR'll like this Chrissie - my school got OFSTED 5 days after I left! Thank god I got out in time!

Hi Mark and Chrissie You sound as though you are still having a fantastic time. The boat trip sounded brilliant and the canoe episode hilarious. We note that Mark still can't take his vodka, we thought he would be immuned to it after Neil's wedding!!!! You seem to meet up with a range of really nice people and it is amazing how you come across people again and again. We envy you all those new experiences but I'm not sure that we could put up with ALL the discomfort, the sort of thing we didn't think twice about when we were your age. Things are fine here, Shona and Andy seem very happy indeed although there is no real sign of Andy's house selling which is a minor nuisance at the moment. G and G are fine and very comfortable. They have been staying with Diana in Bath this weekend. We had an e-mail yesterday from Tony and Sandie saying they had some CD's of photos from you. So we will try to get together and invite them up here so that we can see them together. I am back into marking mode, a few hundred GCSE exam papers have arrived, but am still trying to play some golf in between. Love to you both. Look after yourselves. Mum and Dad

Warm and sunny in Buxton - From: Good Morning Vietnam!
Hello there. Thanks for the phone message - sorry not to get back sooner. The wedding, as you will have heard, was fantastic. Your sparkly sister looked radiant as she walked down the aisle and became Mrs Wale, closely (actually a little too closely - I nearly stood on the train!) followed by her little sister. Pete lived up to his reputation of working the room and ensured everyone was where they should be. It really was lovely. Sunny and warm, the church looked amazing and all finished off with a doce-do and strip-the-willow..... Your email was appreciated, it brought a tear to my eyes (as did seeing Sho in her wedding dress - perhaps what made me nearly fall over her walking down the aisle!). Just spent the weekend in London celebrating Becks entering her 4th decade, a spot of competative softball on Regents Park and a few beers off Gt Portland Street. Back in Buxton now. Been to the allotment tonight to do the watering and now off to bed. Much love. Skype us again when you can. C&Px

Hi Mark and Chrissie Thanks ever so much for the parcel which arrived Tues. I will do the label for the golden pig for H and D's 120th. Haven't given the pashmena to Granny yet, will do so soon. Thanks very much for the runner, we will use it for the weekend of Shona's wedding. We went up to the venue yesterday and Mum has all sorts of ideas for decoration!!! Went to IKEA also but spent the rest of the day with RAC or in garages. Dad very cleverly put petrol in the car instead of diesel. Going senile!!!! Expensive business. You obviously had fun in HK trying to spend as little as poss. You still sound very chirpy and seem to be having a fabulous time. Shona still remarkably calm but Andy seems to be beginning to worry about various things. I am sur it will all be fine. Lots of love M and D

this time lucky! - From: On a bicycle made for two
Computer always seems to play me up when i try to add a comment so hoping for better luck this time!! Lovely to speak to you a couple of days ago - don't you get a lot of time for your money ......... Have just been in Bath for Shonas hen do.......cath had done a great job of organizing two boats for 14 of us self drive down the canal ........Shona having the first stint on her boat nearly managed to go head first into a big narrow boat coming the other way - although to be fair nobody had told her that you drive on the right on the canal! I avoided ramming either them or the narrow boat. We had a champagne picnic half way -alhtough having stopped with the sun full out it them decided to rain just as we were setting up - a glass of bubbly under a nearby bridge and the sun came back out again - we did all get back to base dry despite Shona nearly falling in when catching the rope from our baot..a niffty leap across 2 feet of water and she managed to land on the narrow ledge on the side of the boat instead of the canal. This was followed by a belly dancing lesson in a Bath restaurant - some of us oldies are now able to shimmey with rest. We finished of with a very good meal - nearly as good as your chinese looked - a lovely day despite shonas worries about what Catherine had up her sleeve. Look forward to the next edition of the blogg Meanwhile lots of love Mum H

Miss Chus!!! - From: To Takayama
Why Hi!!!! Missed you guys this weekend, we had a BBQ at mine yesterday but there was defo 2 fitties missing! No dry humping nor any smoking of chips nor any bundling that almost killed me.. well its not all bad news then! All is good in, get this, 'sunny' manchester. However I am still totally jealous sitting here at my desk, although I have not done any work yet as I have been reading your blog! Love Mt Fuji by the way ... incredible! And impressed with the temple.. is that rented accomodation? xxx

Hey look at those Giesha! I think I've sent you my email address but I can't see the comment anywhere and I can't remember your email address! I will check to see if I still have it written down somewhere obscure. I"ve been reading up in Thailand, the temple-tour doesn't stop in Japan! It's Buddha all the way out there. Chrissie, loving the phone bling!

Happy Easter - From: Geisha stalking...
Soo good to hear you guys. Sounds like you have had a wonderful, traditional Easter complete with Kareoke (sp?), blosson and phone bling - where are the eggs? We are great. Just coming to the end of 4 lovely days off spent lazing around sunny Buxton, allotmenting, buying bikes, watching Tigers win at Sale (hurrah - by one point in the last minute .. needless to say Pete was very happy), and finished it all off with a 40 mile cycle to the south acec tent and camp stove (altough we did give up on trying to create dinner and dined in the local hostelry instead). Keep in touch. Previous episodes duly printed and sent to Grandparents. Tara. C&Pxx

Just getting to the final arse clenching weeks of rehearsal (no wonder mine's none existant, I've clenched it away!!) Went to Blackpool with Hank & Ric yesterday. Sensibly walked past Gypsy Lav and the Passage de Terror, but then battered myself black & blue on some spinning ride! Result!! Anyway, I shall love you and leave you now, so take care of yourselves and most importantly ENJOY!!!! Loving you both long time lvs Aunty M x x x

Hey chu guys - From: Japan - the land we dont yet understand ...
Hi guys! Just been reading up on your travels so far - it looks amazing! So jealous! Think of us all stuck in ol'Blighty with this miserable old weather. We did have rather a lovely BBQ sess on the Nomads car park this weekend B.E.A.UTIFUL! Missing you both loads - I drove past the house last night after work (proper stalker sty-lee!) and visited the best Bab 'n' Chips shop round the corner...TAKE THE SHAME - the guy behind the counter ASKED why he hadn't seen me in a while!! I had to explain how I won't be frequenting the Brenchley Drive Manor due to your epic journey! So at least I have one benefit in your going away - I can 'keep the weight off'! Love and miss you both loads. Speak soon. P.R.B x x x x

Lovely to read all about your experiences so far in Japan...sounds like you're already into the local food - raw fish is their staple diet isn't it. Like the photo of Chrissie on her birthday - did you get the card Chrissie. We're fine - Ruth and Paul, Hannah and Katie are in Val Claret next week so will hear any news from Haresfield. Look after yourselves and continue to enjoy Japan. Lots of love to you both M and D

Intrepid explorers - From: Japan - the land we dont yet understand ...
Glad you survived the first treacherous 1/4 mile - must have been hell out there!!! - What a fantastic start. I have to admit that some of the food sounds as though it comes from the song by Clinton Ford - the Old Bazzar in Cairo. (I'm sure Chrissie remembers it!!!!). Beebee is puurrrfectly at home and regularly goes on Garden Patrol seeing off all the local cats - bit of a bully really. Have fun and take care. Mum and Dad

No news yet - From: Human pin cushions!
Hope all goes well. How is Japan2/3 days in? Hope you had a very happy birthday Chrissie. We are fine, we are having a gorgeous week 30cm of new snow at the w/e and lovely sunny weather since with gorgeous snow!! Mum even skied the Face yesterday, the snow was so good. Only 8 guests this week so not too demanding. We had a lovely week with Karl Johanna and BOb last week although the weather wasn,t great and Jo damaged her knee on the 3rd day, missed a couple of days the was very tentative. Paul and Ruth from next door are coming out this w/e so we hope to see something of them. They are staying in an appartment in Val Claret for the week. Anyway we are fine and are just about to go out sking on our day off having had a bit of a lie in. Lots of love to you both Mum and Dad
