Hola... - From: Snakes, Toads, Ade & other animals / Serpientes, Sapos, Ade & otros animales

Make sure to take a picture! When I was traveling with Antonia and Julia our bags used to explode the minute we got into our room. I took a picture of our room in Nha Trang. I can't help but laugh whenever I see it :)

I Hear Ya! - From: Where is the Honesty gone? / Donde se quedo la honestidad?
I totally know what you mean. We experienced this a bit in China too, although there it seemed like they didn't want us to go more than they did. It's hard to understand, and I'm not sure I ever will. It's so frustrating, you spend half of your trip wondering why they couldn't have just told you the truth and saved you all the trouble. The thing is they know we'll never be back and that what we tell other people really won't affect their business. But hey, at least we know now right? hahaha

ade' love of animals - From: Snakes, Toads, Ade & other animals / Serpientes, Sapos, Ade & otros animales
What a shame you didn't meet grandad Stan, Ade is him reincarnated. Grandad would stand for hours just looking and listening at wildlife(though obviously he didn't have the time since he was a working man with a family of 6) I have to say that you Maria are practical like grandma, you and Ade make a good team

Willard Price - From: Burbujas....../Bubbles .....
... ha ha ... ade sounds like our boyhood hero hal hunt from south sea adventure (willard price)... ask ade he'll remember... hal and roger learnt how to hold their breath for an infeasibly long time 4 or 5 mins (willard was always prone to exagerate) while diving for pearls with a 'native'. i used to practice in the bath and was well impressed by gus who could do a length of tynemouth pool underwater!

- From: En Fin, que le vamos a hacer/ Och well, what can you do?
hi Maria only just got round to reading your blog. I think this is less about religion and more about distorted distribution of wealth. This guy was no doubt a chancer and whilst there is no excuse for rudeness he was probably just earning a crust probably to live/support his family. How many people had been rude to him that day? I've seen Big Issue sellers lose the rag - constant rejection can get you down. As travellers we crave 'real' experience with the people and countries we visit yet the paradox is we are part of the problem grossly distorting local economies. We're just spectators. Happy travelling. Happy blogging. Marcus X

holaholaholahola - From: Vamos a la Playa!!!

pushy teenagers - From: En Fin, que le vamos a hacer/ Och well, what can you do?
I have to say that the fact it was a teenager that gave the insults is significant, i feel older people are much more chilled! Kids at school have very different perceptions than I do. They actually imagine something has been said that actually hadn't been. A girl recently accused me of saying she was a liar. I did indicate that she had exaggerated the truth but in her mind (and her friends) I had called her a liar!! Teenagers apparently have an altered brain chemistry to (normal people)ie. adults. Mel xx

zen/motorcycle maintenance - From: En Fin, que le vamos a hacer/ Och well, what can you do?
Hi Maria, I hope you write a book when your journey ends. I am reminded of 'Zen & the art of Motorcycle Maintenance'when I read your blog. I would say think of Maslov's pyramid of needs as the driver for this behaviour. These guys have to make hay while the sun shines. You can speak from a very secure position in life. If you're suggesting that some people will sell their mother ( their religion ?)then maybe they have to. How many christians attend Sunday worship as a show and then use their perceived righteousness to further their social & career status? You are away from home & are sensitive to abuse. You've heard worse on Lothian Road. Stay safe! Gus x
