I feel like I am in some mad time warp. The days are now descending into repetitive monotony. Like some scene out of Groundhog day. Even the same darned mosquito divebombed me 2 consecutive nights at the same time; My response was of course the same both times....being unable to chase it round the room I could do little except smear mossie repellant in my hair ( which smells delightful!) and dive under the covers, with just my nose poking out to allow ventilation!! Well there I was in the communications centre scanning www.everestnews.com and eating rumballs (my new passion!), while discussing the state and prognosis of my leg for around the 50th time today when the guy next to me turned and said, "I was on the summit 5 days ago". Life is pretty challenging here on one leg. I spend most of my days resembling a cross between a kangaroo on speed and an unstable flamingo. My new best friend is an old guy with a prosthetic leg and finger stumps at knuckle level who sees me as some sort of disabled ally and keeps giving me the thumbs up, or rather I should say the stumps up. Now sitting in a war zone with machine gun fire whizzing round my head and risking life and limb to post these fluffy shots of my fellow travellers! Seriously, Kathmandu is WELL chilled, very different from recent news reports and feeling safer than last time I visited with snipers perched on the rooves! Not completely sure where we are, just on the Tibetan side of the Nepalese border. One of the joys of travelling in an organised group is sometimes you just don't have a clue where you are!! Crossing into Nepal tomorrow a few pounds lighter I suspect. Body been hijacked by bugs which means tonights supper consists of raw carrots, an apple, orange, fizzy sweets and Nescafe! Back at my fave internet hotspot in Lhasa! Most internet places are sooooooooo slow as apparently there are around 33,000 internet police in China so everything goes through a massive filtering process! Been wandering around the Jokhang area this morning and saw the delightful sight of a little child going to the toilet in the main street ( number 2's!). The fashion here is for trousers with splits in them ( no nappies) so children just squat down and go where they need to. Tashi dele from 3,600 metres at Lhasa! Sitting here with mild palpitations- think I ate or talked too much this evening and the oxygen has been diverted elsewhere, as I have been ok with the altitude up 'till now ( as long as I lie down and rest, that is!). My room is on the fourth floor and arrival there is accompanied by a near-death gasping for breath; however I am heartened to hear some of the Tibetans who live here gasping in much the same manner so perhaps there is just not enough oxygen to go round!!!!! Just a very quick posting to say I probably wont blog now for at least 2 weeks, possibly 4. I start my tour through China and Tibet tomorrow and it's gonna be full-on, and remote. The last few days have been challenging- another bank card's disappeared. Nothing gets done quickly here and it's been a nightmare trying to sort it. ........and so the conversation goes day after day. Bangkok is pretty 'full on' and you get approached on every corner by hustlers trying to make a quick buck or two. These hustlers also take any opportunity to lie and tell you things are closed so that they can take you on their own select tour of the city, where they earn commision at various shops they drop you off at. okok so danger over now and storm finished. I slid home after the rain..... my flip flops have zero grip - and I just tend to aqua-plane around the place. All these worries before I left about being kidnapped by terrorists, talking to strange men etc etc and the biggest threat to my life comes from my flip-flops!
