I'm spending the fall studying in the beautiful city of Alicante in Spain, and loving it completely.

Well, it's been over two months since my final entry, but the experiences didn't stop there. After my semester ended, Erin, Jordan and I took a grand trip around Europe (Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Spain)... it was an experience that can never be repeated... some of the most amazing 17 days of my life. Going to Spain, I felt like I was experiencing a culture that was entirely new and different to me, but traveling to four other countries made me realize just how many unique places, cultures, and experiences there really are to be had out there. Now that I've finished editing all of my pictures and settling back into life on this side of the Atlantic, I've truly started to grasp what an incredible trip this one was, and I'm just blown away ... read more

Hello all one last time from Spain! I leave in just a few short minutes, so I just wanted to say thanks for reading all these months!!! I really appreciate it! I was hoping to do a better entry here, but I ran out of time, so you'll just have to make do with this instead :) Anyway, it's been an amazing semester overall... I've seen and done SO much that I might never have done had I not had this opportunity. Spain is a beautiful place, and I'm really going to miss it. It's really been quite a ride, and I wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world. I'm getting ready to embark on another adventure (pictures and another post will probably come when I get back), and then it's my final semester ... read more

Happy St. Nicholas Day (yesterday)! Happy December! Happy Christmas-Is-Almost-Here! Happy I have 11 Days!!! So it’s been a few weeks since I last updated. Sorry about the delay, I just haven’t done anything all that exciting and I haven’t really had the motivation to do anything but listen to Christmas music :) But you deserve an update all the same! Without further ado… The weekend after Madrid a group of us went to Jijona, a tiny little town about 30 minutes from here. We had heard there wasn’t much to do there, and indeed, the town was rather ugly, but we had our eyes set on one particular place… the turrón factory! Turrón is a really famous Christmas dessert in Spain (it comes in many varieties, some tasting like fudge and others like peanut brittle), and ... read more

Well hey there! How goes it stateside?! It pretty much goes without saying that things are continuing to go well on my side of the Atlantic. Actually, these past two weeks have been QUITE eventful, so if my fingers can endure all I have to type, this is going to be the longest post yet. Prepare yourselves. Ready? Okay. Here goes. Recap of my life since we last left off. The Tuesday after I posted the last blog, I went to a get-together at Fabio’s apartment (the hilarious South Korean from my grammar classes) with the rest of our grammar class. The entire class minus the Americans was continuing on together, and I really missed all of them! It was so nice to see everyone again, as well as hang out with people that I could ... read more

Hola everyone! I apologize that these entries are now every other week things, it’s just that without as many frequent trips, I won’t have enough stories for an entry every week. So unless something huge happens, these are going to be a little less frequent. That being said, here goes a somewhat random entry… but then again, aren’t they all? First up, a summary of the last two weeks: The week after Ávila was my last week of grammar class. We had our exams on Friday, which weren’t too difficult and I think they went really well. I was really sad to be done though… we had a GREAT professor and an absolutely awesome class. Luckily, we exchanged emails and phone numbers so we’re all still trying to get together from time to time. I’m going ... read more

Well, howdy, ya’ll! Long time, no post! I haven’t updated in two weeks because I haven’t had enough blog-ish material for separate entries, so I’m lumping it all into one long one. Happy reading! Last weekend (the 11th), just about everyone left for various individual trips… Thursday was some holiday in the region of Valencia (although no matter how many times it was explained to me, I still don’t understand it), so everything was closed for the day, and most people took a long weekend. I stayed here, though, as Saturday was the Volvo Ocean Race! Daman and I went down at around 10, and the line to get in was enormous! It was really rainy and windy, but the crowds poured in. The boats took off around 11, but, like the weekend before, just sailed ... read more

So I haven’t really done any trips recently, but I figured I’d update you on the little things that have happened and the new stories that have arisen since the Barcelona trip. It’s been two weeks since my last update, so get ready for lots of stories! Let’s see… the week following Barcelona was pretty uneventful overall, minus the finals for my first block of grammar classes, which went pretty well, and The Office premiere (awesome!), so I’ll skip ahead. The following weekend was relaxing by night and stressful by day. Explain? Don’t mind if I do! NIGHTS. Friday night Adam, Daman, and I went and saw “Passengers,” the new Anne Hathaway movie in which she plays a therapist dealing with the surviving passengers of a plane crash, and slowly they begin to disappear. The movie ... read more

I had fully intended to have this blog written and posted Monday, but a friend just recently let me borrow “Twilight,” and I’m beyond hooked right now, so my apologies. I know, some of you are shaking your heads right now, saying, “Laura, ‘Twilight,’ really?” but seriously, it’s ridiculously addicting, like “finish-it-in-a-day-and-now-I’m-re-reading-it” addicting. Not the “next Harry Potter” as some people have claimed by any means, but it’s good. I could go on for days comparing the two and falling into my Potter-obsessive world, or gushing about my new fictional character crush, but this is a travel blog, so I’ll spare you and get to the point. But you should definitely spend the day or two and read it. Before the movie comes out too. Seriously, read it. *Ahem* Alright, to the travel stuff! So this ... read more

So I have to make a quick note on the food here, since everyone is asking me about how good it is. First of all, it’s nothing like Mexican or Latin food in the slightest… it’s actually pretty bland overall. But I mentioned in the last post how my host mom’s cooking is questionable, so I figured I’d elaborate a bit more here, and give you guys a true taste (pun definitely intended) of what my food experience is thus far. So Ana makes me a salad every day for lunch and dinner, which is fine, except she doesn’t have dressing, so I basically eat lettuce and tomatoes with olive oil. Not the best tasting thing day after day. I asked her for smaller portions, too, which worked for about 5 days, but now I’m back ... read more

Hola! Well, I’m in Spain, safe and sound. I’ve decided to start a travel blog to keep everyone updated on the big events here… travel, festivals, etc. Of course, I still plan to keep up on emails and whatnot, but I don’t have internet in my house, so personal replies are going to take a bit longer, and this way I don’t have to repeat myself on the major events. You can all just check them out here! For those of you who don’t know, if you subscribe to this blog, you’ll receive an email every time I update, so it works out pretty well. Alrighty, an update on what’s happened thus far (beware, I’m probably going to ramble; I have lots of stories and nobody to tell them to!): Flights. First off, I HIGHLY recommend ... read more
